Definitely steroid use and excessive supplementation is bad for you, and does take away from the initial reason exercise was invented. However, I think strength training in general, and the extreme bodybuilding are still pretty good for you. I've heard of a guy surviving a car crash primarily because he was a massive bodybuilder.

While I feel bodybuilding in general has really gotten away from the health benefits it does possess I do feel there are many people still out there who weight train for the benefit of their health. Just because someone trains with weights and is building their body with lean muscle tissue does not necessarily mean they are someone who is not healthy, does not what what it takes to be healthy or can train someone on how to be healthy.

I weight train to increase my lean body tissue and while I would be lying if I said I don't like how it looks, I really like the fact that it will help extend my quality of life for many additional years.
