I have been a contact lense wearer for a lot of years now, probably over 25 years and have ran into more and more roadblocks to buying contact lenses over the years. What happens is I will wear contacts for 5 years or so and then switch back to glasses for a couple of years. Here is the process that I go through to get contact lenses.
1. Get an eye exam and new prescription
2. Shop around for a cheap place to buy lenses
3. Pay some sort of fitting fee and get a 6 month supply of my contacts lenses
This time around I decided to short circuit the contact lense buying process. I hate having to pay a fitting fee to buy contact lenses and they are all overpriced at the stores anyway.
Last year I had my eyes tested and now I wanted to test the waters of getting my contact lenses online. The way that I look at it, if I am getting Bauch and Lomb contact lenses it does not matter at all if I am getting my contact lenses at the store in the mall that sells glasses or from some online store that has no storefront to maintain.
I checked every single online contact lense store. T and then ended up buying from 1-800 Contacts. There were a lot of options between stores. There is price of contact lenses, cost of shipping, and guarantees. At 1-800 Contacts we were able to talk to someone online or on the phone and they guaranteed that they would have the lowest price.
In order to get you contact lenses you need a few things. you need a current prescription, this can be obtained from a optometrist. Also you need to know the lens power for your right and left eyes as well as your lense diameter.
One last thing that I was concerned about was the fact that I am a Canadian and was worried about customs charges for my contact lenses. It ended up that there was no problem 1-800 Contacts was able to deliver me my contacts in about two weeks and everything was exactly as I asked and expected.

I was thinking of laser as well until my doctor told me that I would probably start losing my nearsightedness as I march through my 40s. I know how you feel though about contacts as I have had contact problems as well over the years.
