This subject is something that I have thought about writing about for a while now as it gets to our core beliefs of whether we can really do it, with it being our goals or not. I always wonder how I can stop people from failing, heck even stop myself from failing.
What do we need to succeed and what can cause us to fail?
I was watching a show that I really like last night, Survivorman. Survivorman is a show where the host Les Stroud goes out somewhere on the middle of nowhere and lives for a week with no food, shelter or equipment, just him and a few video cameras.
What does this have to do with fitness, besides maybe how starvation affects people? Well Les Stroud talks about how he feels in these places, last night for instance Les was in the desert. People are afraid in the desert about animal attacks, water, food, spiders, loneliness, and other stuff and he made a point of saying what helps and why. Read the rest of this entry »

We spend a lot of time trying to lose weight by resisting urges, getting motivated for workouts and by fighting to do the right thing. Have you ever thought that instead of pushing to get what you want you can also pull the goodness to you?
What I am talking about here is to just have a good mindset in the first place. Instead of having to think good thoughts just try for a while to only have positive and not any negative thoughts and see how much this helps your attitude all of the time.
Ever tried to lose a few pounds and failed? Well, the reason is neither the weight loss pill that you used nor the exercise routine that you followed. You may or may not be aware of it, but the reason is YOU! You tell your mind that you are ‘trying to lose weight’, and in reality, your mind too is only ‘trying’ to lose weight, not anything more.

I had so much fun and a good experience from readers of the blog a couple of days ago by posting some great articles from other blogs that I decided to share a few more. I just found these posts yesterday and it seems that lots of bloggers are writing some really high quality stuff, I am going to have to pick up the pace here.
How to get a muscular body
Zen to Fitness has a great highlight type article on how people get muscular. One of the highlights is that there is a great old pic of Arnold before he was governor of California at the top of the post. Eating and exercise tips.
Are School lunches healthy?
I have two kids in school and so I thought this would be an interesting read, but it was even more. Did you know that only 80 cents a day goes into food at a typical school made lunch?
TV in kids rooms can make them fat
I keyed into this article because I also think that having a TV in the kids rooms can cause them to be antisocial as well but my kids each have a TV and we make sure that the kids realize that the TV is for when everyhting else, inluding playing is done. The TVs will leave their rooms if it becomes a problem.
Finding a little time to exercise
Sometimes I think it would be great to write a book about how to exercise in 5 minutes (10 times a day). People hate a time commitment but here are four quick ways to get more exercise in. Oh and the logo for the website is great.
Building weight loss momentum
I am a sucker for a quick and easy top 10 list as you have probably realized from this blog. Here is a list of 10 ways to build momentum in losing weight. They are not altogether obvious so I think that these tips will really snap your thinking into the right frame of mind.

This post is a bit of a rant. I love everyone that emails me and reads this blog but sometimes I am too easy on the changes that people need to make. So I will rant a bit today for you.
I know the title may be a little tongue in cheek but I worry that so many people are waiting for another day to start what they need to start today.
There is a great quote that I always have loved
Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift
The reason that this means so much is that people dream about tomorrow and they dwell on the past and forget that today is the only day that you really have control of.
But just looking at this short term means that people fail to act. Read the rest of this entry »

Lets say that you wanted to lose weight and instead of counting your calories every meals and watching your BMI and exercising at exactly 7:35 in the morning you decided instead that everyday you would try to add one more thing to your life that would make you healthier.
What kind of change would this make in your life?
Lets look at a list of what you could add each day that could make a big difference over time and especially compounded over time:
- One less pop a day
- One less chocolate bar a day
- One more piece of fruit
- One less car trip to the corner store or mailbox
- A better Breakfast
- Eating a really great for you snack
- Thinking about how much better you are today to your body than you were last year
- Stretching when you wake up
- Actually drinking those 8 glasses of water that you say you are already drinking
- Turning down that donut
- Drinking one less cup of coffee in the morning…or evening?
- Finding a fun hobby that you can do once a week with some other people
- Committing to some more exercise each day
- Cutting out a sugary treat in the evening

Michael Phelps is a phenomenal athlete and it has to do with a few things. Michael works out hard, very hard with 5 hours a day working out and training as well as goal setting an a giant diet. In fact the most I have ever been able to eat is around 5,000 calories a day when I was doing a lot of weightlifting, Michael Phelps eats 12,000 calories a day every day.
According to nutritionists, the average man of the same age and height (Phelps is 6′4″) should be ingesting about 2,000 calories a day. By comparison, Phelps consumes a staggering (doctor-approved) 12,000 calories probably a weeks worth of food for a mere mortal in a single day.
Here is a typical Michael Phelps breakfast: Three fried-egg sandwiches topped with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise. And that’s just to get his stomach warmed up for the main portion of his breakfast, which includes two cups of coffee, a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar and three chocolate-chip pancakes. We have all watched as Michael Phelps has seemed for the last week to be completely unbeatable in a crowded sport, swimming, that has a low barrier of entry for people and is very very competitive. Michael Phelps ended up winning all of his eight events with records in seven of them. This after winning six Gold medals in the Athens Olympics four years ago.
I heard a little bit of an interview with Micheal Phelps yesterday and someone asked him how he could break all the swimming records and if his records will ever be broken. He said:
“Everything is possible if you dream. My coach helped me to dream big. When I got to him he said to me that I should dream big. He told me to dream as big as you can.”
Five hours of training a day and an attitude that he would win, noth that he hoped that he would win but he dremed big that he would win his Olympic gold medals.
