small-step.jpgWhen you are trying to get motivated to get something done then the best place to start is with something small that you can build on. A great part of motivation is the small step that you need to do to get forward momentum and once you have that you are unstoppable, but how to make that first step?

Just make that one first step

Well there are many ways to make that first step, Leo at Zen Habits says that you should just do the minimum possible, like 2 minutes of exercise. Another thing you can do is decide that you will drink 2 cups of water first thing in the morning, or eat a healthy breakfast of Oatmeal and a banana. You can decide to park in the furthest lot at work or get off a train one stop early.

The fact is you do not have to do all of these things just do one today and again tomorrow and then without saying anything to your resistant brain do one more of these things the next day, you now have two and the momentum is there. Three weeks from now you have turned you life around with a bunch of little changes that you would not even think are possible today.

This is the best way to start this one step at a time process. Do not even look at goals for this one just get ideas and write them down and then take the easiest one and do it today. Lets say you want to improve your health. You can probably come up with 50 things along the lines of stretch while watching TV tonight, or one of the above. If you want to spend less money you could think of a great dinner for tonight and make a little bit too much and have it for leftovers tomorrow, I love leftovers. Read the rest of this entry »

motivation.jpgA couple of weeks ago I sent out a newsletter to the subscribers of this blog and at the end I asked them what they wanted to see, what they wanted to know, and what they are interested in me writing more about.

The answer was getting motivated.

I was really surprised as most of the time I think about how it would be good to write about techniques of losing weight, muscle building exercises and news of the latest finds in science to get in better shape but of course to get in better shape you need to get started and stay started.

This week I am going to write a few shorter posts about motivating yourself to reach your goals. I want to cover everything from getting started to getting results and to continuing when things are tough or when you have reached your goals. And at the end of the week I am hoping that there is no question in your mind about how to start and get motivated, you will already be off and getting stuff done.

The first step towards this is to subscribe to my 21 days of fitness email course. If you look to the left above my smiling face you will see a little signup box. Just but in your name and email address and you will get an email once every two days for three weeks (12 emails in all) and these emails will take you through the basics of getting in better shape.

So this is how we will start this week. I am going to break the articles into smaller chunks so that you are able to pick up little bits of info and move on, I am sure the last thing that you would want to read is 30 minutes of text droning on and on and the trouble is I can write that too.

Good luck this week, let’s see how it finishes, I hope you are excited!
