People often choose a celebrity endorsed fad diet in order to lose weight. And if a fad diet is used and endorsed by their favorite celebrities, then they would obviously prefer it over other diets. The Zone Diet is one of those Celebrity endorsed diets with useres like Mekhi Phifer from ER, hockey player Brian Leetch, and Brad Pitt. I will tell you to start that the Zone diet is difficult to follow but the carb to protein to fat levels seem to be quite good for any active person.
Now, as a matter of fact, just because a diet works for your favorite celebrity doesn’t mean that it would work for you too. Different people have different body compositions and what works for one doesn’t necessary work for another! Another thing to note is that the Zone diet is said to be miles apart from a strict vegetarian diet. Considering the fact that experts say that vegetarian diet is the best diet for quick weight loss, and that people who thrive on a vegetarian diet usually remain fit and healthy, you maybe curious as to how the Zone diet works.
So what is Zone diet all about? According to the Zone diet, your meals must consist of 30% fat content, 40% carb content and 30% protein content. With this combination, your insulin level will be balanced. When your insulin level is balanced, you automatically lose weight (since higher levels of insulin trigger the storage of fatty tissues in our body). As you can see, the Zone diet is particularly useful for those who want to get rid of diabetes or any heart-related ailments. Read the rest of this entry »

I just saw an article on CNN about a woman that lost 160 pounds on the Raw Food Diet. Many people ask me about this because the Raw Food Diet seems like a natural and safe way ot lose weight.
Raw food diets can be a great way to not only lose weight but also led a much healthier, natural lifestyle in general. Most raw food diets are plant-based, with at least 75% of the diet composed of raw food.
Food examples include living and raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, rolled or flaked grains, and seaweeds. Some adherents may also eat cooked grains and legumes, fresh fish and poultry. For the strict raw food diet, however, nothing should be heated over 116 degrees Fahrenheit. Read the rest of this entry »

The very capable guys and gals at the Mayo Clinic have an article today about Bisphenol A health risks. This is something very new to most of us but it involves plastic containers that we store food in.
An important article in the Sept. 17 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association discusses the health effects of the chemical Bisphenol A. What is this compound and what are its effects? What might happen as a result of this study?
Bisphenol A is a chemical in plastics. It is widely found in the lining of food containers, plastic bottles, compact discs, carbonless paper, and many medical devices. It also is used to coat metal products (food cans and bottle tops), and even water supply lines. Some dental sealants also contain this ingredient.
Now for the Bisphenol A health risks. Animal studies done in the 1980s and ’90s identified that low doses of Bisphenol A have adverse effects on the brain, reproductive system, and metabolic processes related to insulin balance and liver function. It may also be related to cancer or even obesity and heart disease. Although it is not immediately lethal, studies show that greatest sensitivity to Bisphenol A occurs during periods of early development and that the substance accumulates over time in the body and environment. There are fat camps for kids that are designed to help kids lose weight through diet, exercise, and learning new skills to stop the habits that casued the troubles in the first place.
The BBC has this great article about how things will get better for kids that learn the life skills that many of us never really learn about the relationship between life, food and exercise.
Jeneisha and Jamal Holroyd-Bruce were both badly bullied and lacked confidence six weeks ago.Since then, they have been at the Carnegie camp and I went to find out how they got on.Jeneisha and Jamal have changed and it is not just their physical appearance which is different. They both look slimmer, their faces are thinner and they have rosy cheeks.

It is nice to see plans that people have for improving health and fitness in an area. I am still a big believer that you need to take care of your own health but one of the Sport columnists at a Halifax paper has a far more reaching plan.
10 steps to improve fitness in our communites
Chris Cochrane thinks that the government can take steps in making fitness easier for people and has a 10 step plan to change things.
Lets hope this sticks somewhere and that governments can make positive changes in peoples fitness instead of just throwing money at health care.

While drinking my morning coffee I ran across this article during my second cup. Donklephant, which is a political blog has a quick article on how coffee may be good for you including the following claims
There’s evidence, Arab noted, that the beverage may protect against certain types of colon cancer, as well as rectal and liver cancer, possibly by reducing the amount of cholesterol, bile acid and natural sterol secretion in the colon, speeding up the passage of stool through the colon (and thus cutting exposure of the lining of the intestine to potential carcinogens in food), and via other mechanisms as well.
Dr. Lenore Arab of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is the Dr Arab mentioned in this article.

This has nothing to do with fitness just a noticing by another blogger Tino Buntic has recognized 2000 bloggers that have their pictures on their blog. The list is all over the place in terms of types of blogs but in looking at the pics it is nice to see people from all races, both genders and, even though tough to tell, hopefully from many countries and not just North America and Western Europe.
Great idea and thanks Tino for including me!

This is a weblog about feeling better, not just in the summer but all year round. I have been exercising and interested in diet and fitness for 20 years and have read far to much for myself not to be vane.
I will go through 30 days of trying to have you improve your fitness by concentrating on improving your diet, your exercise and your attitude so that after 30 hopefully mostly pain free days you will have a much better and helthy body and mind.
I will be trying to follow myself and be better than I am now. I am in decent fitness and my diet as I joke with my wife is really goo but I add a bunch of unhealthy food as well.
I am married to Michelle, with a two year old boy Jaiden and a five year old daughter Taylor so there are many reasons for me to improve my fitness and improve my diet as well as exercise more. Lets do this together and if you are joining this weblog late please try to do it over 30 days.
Good luck
Bill
