Lots of people jump on the fitness bandwagon without even realizing what it could and couldn’t do for them, or what they should and shouldn’t expect from it. Usually they do it either out of peer pressure or for weight loss. Even before you start fitness training, you need to set your goals and expectations right or you are sure to be disappointed down the road.

The Why Part: First of all, ask yourself why you are so excited about fitness. What is it that you wish to achieve from it? To give you an idea, some people do it for weight loss as I already told you, while others do it simply to acquire a strong, well-toned muscular body. You may or may not be aware of it, but there are separate sets of exercises available for weight loss and muscle building.

The “why” part is crucial because it would help you pick the right workouts in the next part; when you pick the right workouts for yourself, you would be one step closer to your goal.

The What Part: Next you need to know the types of workouts you would be doing; choose workouts in a way that you get the maximum mileage with minimum time investment. You also need to make sure that you don’t waste your time in doing unnecessary workouts or activities.

For the sake of argument, let’s say that your aim is to add twenty-five pounds of muscles to your body. In such a case, doing cardios would be a waste of time as they would take too long to offer you the desired results.

The right workouts for this purpose are intense workouts such as weight training, interval training and resistance training; such workouts would give you what you want within a very time-span. Think about it, the sooner you have a muscular and well toned body, the quicker you could show it off to your friends and colleagues.

The How Part: Next you need to think about how you plan to organize your workout regimen. If you wish, you may take the help of a fitness professional for this purpose. When I say “think”, I am actually suggesting you to write it down on a piece of paper. People who don’t have their goals and plans written in black and white are seldom able to progress in life.

Lastly, if you want to ensure that you reach your goal unfailingly, you should set a deadline for it. Think about it: have you ever been able to finish any task which doesn’t come with a deadline? The human mind is always restless, and if you don’t pressurize it to finish your job quick, you would lose concentration and waste your time by indulging in trivial activities.
