Good tips - particularly the last point! While I do a fair amount of cardiovascular work, this year my goal is to add regular strength training. I'm trying to work out a way of benchmarking my current strength levels - so I can set some goals, and track my progress. Do you have any advice on the best way to do this?

I think the last sentence has a lot of relevance as well.

One of the biggest things to always keep in mind is to be patient. The most important thing about an exercise program is DOING IT! Don't expect things to change overnight as with most of us, getting out of shape is a timely process, so you have to be realistic that getting back into shape is going to take time as well.

I know I took a couple weeks off around the holidays and definitely noticed at least a slight decline in my health over that time. While the first workouts were definitely not the most enjoyable, knowing in my mind of what happens when you string together months of regular exercise is always a large motivator for me!

Have a healthy 2008!
