lance-armstrongI have been following the Tour De France today on the computer just because I was looking forward to this mountain stage. Usually I watch the OLN coverage replay in the evening for a while but today I watched the tracker online.

Well today Lance Armstrong started the day 1 minute and 37 seconds back of the leader Alberto Contador. Today’s race had lots of mountains and Contador, although he did not win ended up finishing a couple of minutes ahead of Lance Armstrong.

It seems in watching the race over the last few days that Lance just does not have the legs for the mountains that he had in the past, he is definitely one of the strongest in the mountains but not quite what he needs, especially when he is on a team with more than one leader where he is not the only rider being supported by the team.

There are only a few days left in the Tour de France for this year and tradition has it that there is no real racing on the last day but instead it is more of a celebratory day of racing.

I am really cheering for Lance Armstrong to make this comeback work but it is not looking to good for him at this point,

    1. I doubt he will grab the MJ, but the Schleck brothers are not known for their TT work, I think LA and Kolden still have a good chance to pull out an all Astana Podium. Well see what happens tomorrow before the TT. Good blog BTW

I think it’s just great that he is back in it. It’s a great message to do what you love. Although sometimes it seems that athletes stay too long in their sports, or come back too many times because they can’t give it up (e.g. Michael Jordan!). Then it just seems sad. I’m cheering for Lance too!

    3. Ali says:

I’m with you on this it would be almost fairytale like if by some herculean effort Lance was able pull off a miraculous victory, however it does not look good at this stage. It comes as no surprise as all Tours on the pro cycle calendar are difficult to win even for competitors who have been on the circuit and are much younger, but just to compete and win a few stages would be such an accomplishment. Final word might be said that lets hope Lance does not prolong his career too much as we all would like him to live in our memories as the champion he always was and not some tired former great.

    4. Andrew says:

After 7 consecutive wins Lance Armstrong will forever be a hero especially through everything he has endured over the years.

    5. Sam says:

I do not know if Lance will win this one, it’s hard coming back after being out of it for a few years, maybe next year. However he is a legend and I will always support him.

    6. I admire him no matter what the outcome!

Lets all believe that he will do it,go for it!

    8. Bob says:

Either way, I think we can all agree that his life and achievements are more than admirable.

    9. Mark B says:

Lance Armstrong is really an amazing man, who is a role model to thousands of cancer patients – showing that there is hope, not just for recovery, but for a fulfilling life. Go Lance!
