This is one of those kind of crazy questions but interesting at the same time, How to lose 100 pounds.

If you are very over how would you lose 100 pounds in one year? Well I have never had to lose 100 pounds but am up for the challenge of how it can be done.

Can you lose 100 pounds in a year?

how to lose 100 poundsFor more information on picking a diet and workout plan for yourself you can visit my Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle book review or my diet program review.

First of all lets all be aware that losing 100 pounds in one year is certainly possible. Many people have achieved this feat and many will lose 100 pounds in a year in the future.

The math of losing 100 pounds in a year

There is simple math in how to lose 100 pounds in one year you would need to lose eight pounds a month for a year which is about 2 pounds for week.

Losing two pounds per week is certainly possible but the problem is that it is hard to keep this rate up for an entire year. You will find that you will lose far more than 10 pounds in your first month and then your loss will slow down after a couple of months only to pick up again in the last few months.

Do you hate cardio and still want to lose weight? This plan may be exactly what you are looking for Check it out now

Now As we all know there are two sides to the loss question: input and output that is caloric intake in eating and output when your metabolism is burning calories. This sounds easy and in fact it is an easy idea to understand and implement but it is very difficult to act on for any length of time.

Lose 100 pounds in a year plan

OK here it goes for how to lose 100 pounds in a year. First thing is to drop your caloric intake. For many people this may be really obvious but for most people it is a real education to find out what they are eating wrong and changing it.

First you will need to drop your calories that you take in probably significantly but take out some calories each week and watch how your body and energy react. Remember you are in this for the long haul not just a few weeks this time.

Your diet should get

  • 30 percent of its calories from protein,
  • 50 percent of its calories from carbohydrates and
  • 20 percent of calories from fats.

Remember fats contain twice the calories per pound that protein or carbohydrates contain so the fat level is actually quite low.

Next is to make sure that you are splitting your three main meals into six meals during the day to properly nourish your body and stop it from thinking that you are starving.

Drink lots of water. You will find that drinking a lot of water will help you lose up to 10 pounds all by itself in the first couple of weeks as your body stops being bloated and your equilibrium is reset.

Exercise to lose 100 pounds

Next is the exercise portion of your changes. Losing 100 pounds in a year just by eating correctly would be impossible as your body would quickly rebel against you.

You must get exercise for 30 minutes twice every day for six days a week. This means that some days will have cardio morning and night and some days will have one cardio workout and one workout.

The twice a day regimen is designed to keep you metabolism high all day instead of having it drop off 12 hours or so after your last workout, also having a lot of exercise will change the way that your body chemistry works.

The reason to do cardio is obvious and that is to raise your metabolism and burn calories.

How to lose 100 pounds

Doing weights is also very important as while you are losing you want to keep your muscle mass and of course muscle takes a lot more calories to maintain than fat so you will over time be burning even more calories than you are now.

The attitude that will lose you 100 pounds in a year

Lastly to lose 100 pounds in a year you need to change your entire attitude towards health, exercise, eating and your own confidence in life.

Making these changes may be very difficult but you are going to find that you have a much better chance of succeeding once you snap out of the way that you look at life and instead start to think about how your life is as a fit person.

Do you hate cardio and still want to lose weight? This plan may be exactly what you are looking for Check it out now

Stop comparing yourself to the people around you and instead join a running club or come other club that promotes health and where the idea of running 20 miles on a Sunday does not seem crazy like most people think but is instead just a fun afternoon outing.

This may seem like an oversimplification of what it takes to lose 100 pounds in a year and maybe it is.

There will be high points and low points in the next year but you will learn from your accomplishments and defeats how to change yourself as a person and make consistently1 better choices.

Good luck to you. Let me know how things are working out in your quest in how to lose 100 pounds.

  2. i just turned 24 a couple of weeks ago. i am a mother of two girls age 3 and almost 1 yr old. before the kids i wasnt skinny minny but i was just slightly curvy. now im blob shaped. im 24 and i look at myself and i feel way older. i weigh 260 now and im disgusted that i let myself spiral out of control. i want to be able to take my kids to the beach and go into the ocean with them, not just wear a tee and capri’s and roast my butt off. so im starting tomorrow morning at our local urban active fitness. and cutting out soda is something i know is going to help me drop the pounds quickly, as well as make me feel better. i am going into this with a positive mind and open heart and i think i will get down to 150 and be the person i feel like again.

  3. I have been told writing about your struggles is the first step. So here is goes. To be honest I love being a thick girl but now it has gotten out of control. I weigh 390-400 some where around there… my body is really feeling all of this . I never put in place a new years resolution because I know that I will just break it(in one week). Don’t get me wrong I still have a beautiful face (my husband says so). I just need a lot of adjuments to my body. My ideal is 155-175. I have to admit to myself that I have a problem with food and I am now ready to step away from the table. I need your prayers and strengh to have the will power to lose 225-235 lbs. This not going to be easy. omfg!!

  4. You are right.. key is watching what you eat and how much. Exercise just helps speed up the process. I once lost 8lbs in 10 days by changing the way I eat. i was eating 6 meals a day, eating fruit and veggies for most of them. I also did watchers in the past. Im currently at 260lbs.. the most i have ever weighed! I know I need to get back up and eat how I was eating before when I lost the 8lbs. It varied every week, the loss. You must make sure you get your fruit, veggies, whole grains in your diet. I have to exercise to stretch out my muscles.. otherwise my ass/lower back bother me sitting at work. Every one is diff. You just have to find what works for you.

  5. Bull Crap about the workout twice a day 6 days a week. I have lost 70 lbs in less than 10 months and I walk about 2 miles a week and bowl in a league once a week. I only eat 3 times a day and I only drink water(16 – 20 cups a day). I have egg beaters and wheat toast for breakfast. I have a tuna fish sandwich on wheat for lunch (lite mayo, mustar, relish and onions). For dinner I will have either a chicken salad or Fish w/vegetables. I eat my dinner by 6:30 pm every night and do not eat past that time. I keep on a schedule and that is what a body needs. My body gets a 12 hour fast every day and that is one of the keys to loss. I do not stress out about my and this helps. Water is a big key and I do not drink anything else accept 2 cups of coffee in the morning. All this talk about exercise and how you need it is crap. Yes it helps but diet and moderate exercise will help you keep it off forever. Can any of us who were or are fat workout 1 hr a day 6 days a week forever? No, but we can teach our body to only crave healthy foods. I was wearing a size 44 in jeans and now I wear a 36. I am going to lose another 30 lbs and that will put me at 180. Then I will right a book telling all us fatties that the only reason they push exercise on us is to sell workout and diet plans. Diets don’t work but a lifestyle change is forever.

  6. I recently purchased a treadmill because I can not make it to the gym. I have a 6yr old and the gym has no daycare or play land for youngsters. (A good income would be to open a indoor playland type deal near a gym that doesnt offer assistanct with kids!) The first night I did not use it because it took all my energy to just get it in the house. The following morning, I hopped on it and pushed the quick 15 min workout. I had to stop it after 5 min.. Im not a runner. Or at least I wasnt until I got my machine. Now I start every morning with a swift walk then into a run, gradually increasing my time/distance every morning. Then after work, i will do it again. this is my 3rd day and i already feel so much better. After the 2nd day my co worker had said I looked smaller, which I find hard to believe, but who am I. lol The only other problem is this.. now my metabolism is up and Im constantly hungry and end up grabbing whatever I can find at the time. (for the first day it was ice cream.. ugh!) I suggest if you have the space and the money.. purchase one. I have more confindence using it in the privacy of my own home than i would at the gym. I have to cancel my membership, which was $15 a month, that I had not used in a few years because of the kid issue. $15×12=$180 a yr x 3yrs= 540. I paid $500 for the treadmill but you can get it used off of craigslist, cheaper. My cousin purchased a small eliptical for $50 off of craigslist.. if you just can not afford or feel comfortable going to the gym.. try this. my issue was kids. Good luck Oh and my treadmill takes the ifit cards, which are pre progamed workouts at diff levels with jillian from the biggest loser. never boring. each workout is different and gives you 6-8 weeks worth of workouts on one card.

  7. Hi everyone. My names Terence and im 14 and i weigh around 280 pounds. I have always been bigger since I was little due to the fact that I was a picky eater. I just took a good look at myself and thought where am I going to be in the next few years staying on this same road. I didnt like what I saw, so im starting to try to lose . What I think im going to do is cut pop, limit junk foods to a minimum, eat more salads and things like that, walk every day for an hour, and more. May 17th is my birthday and I want to make a vow, for my 16th birthday, I wanna be healthier than I was before. I know this is a big goal and that its going to be the most challenging thing of my life, but it will also the best. Wish me luck.

  8. Good News Eveyone,

100 lbs in a year is definately possible. Last year in 4 months I lost 67lbs in a get fit contest. I worked out a hour eveyday and kept my calories to under 1800. I did cardio workouts only and used the heart rate training method. There’s a certain part of your heart rate where you burn the most fat calories. It’s actually in the cardio zone and not the fat burning zone. You get 2 benefits from this. Improves cardio and burns more calories. I weighed 256lbs when I started and was 188 when the contest was over. It started June 2 of last year, it felt like I was going to die just walking a mile at first. Bye June 26 of last year I participated in a sprint triathlon, 1/3 mile swim, 16 hilly mile bike ride and a 3 mile run at the end. I survived in just under a couple hrs. No stopping on any portion of the course. This was a huge personal accomplishment for me. At the age of 41 my kids though I was nuts. If your curious, yes I have kept all the off and I’m losing more to be able to perform better for more upcoming sprint triatlons this summer. Good Luck to everyone with their journey.

  9. “Losing 100 pounds in a year just by eating correctly would be impossible as your body would quickly rebel against you.” Why do you say “your body would quickly rebel against you”? I’ve lost 27 pounds in seven weeks and am going to continue at a two pound per week pace from here and reach my goal by the end of the year. I certainly don’t plan on excercising though. I hate excercising. I’m going from 298 pounds to under 200. I refuse to excercise though. I’m only going to do the old “burn more calories than you consume” trick. My doctor mentioned it to me one time. I may also write a book when I’m done, “How to lose 100 pounds in a year without silly excercising”.

  10. Hi everyone 🙂

I’m 29 and living in UK and moving back home to Australia in 16 months. Since I’ve been here I’ve had a baby and lost the energetic lifestyle I had. My has gone all the way up to 265 pounds.

My son’s 3 months old and I don’t want him to ever remember me this way. I want to be a fit and energetic mum with confidence. I want all my family and friends to see that as well.

I have 16 months-I can lose 100 pounds in 12 months and then maintain a healthy lifestyle for the remaining 4 to get me into the life lasting habits.

Good luck everyone, we’re all in this together. Don’t let the dieting blues grind you down this time 🙂

  11. 100lbs in a year is definitly possible!! I’ve lost 40lbs in 4 months and feel great! My goal is a 100lbs as well and hope to have achieved it by October 2010. I’ve been running 3-4 nights a week for an hour to an hour and a half, and on my off nights, I walk or do the eliptical for an hour followed by s. I’ve set small goals for myself to reach. I ran the relay race for the Ca International Marathon in December which was was 7 miles and I did so good that I put a half marathon on my list for March to complete all on my own. It’s going to be tough for me to finish 13.1 miles all by myself with running the whole race, but I’m bound and determinded! Watch what you’re eating, and trust me, the booze and soda are the worst for anyone trying to loose . If you can cut these out, you’ll be a very happy person and on your way to the “New You!”

  12. Hi Everyone! I wrote on this a while back… but wanted to update everyone! So… I used to be the laziest person! I was 280 pounds at my heaviest, and didn’t care what I ate… Well… Since Week before thanksgiving this last November, I have lost 36 pounds! I am weekly at about 2 pounds a week now. Although the number is low, I know, 2 pounds a week is 100 pounds a year!!!!!!! And it is much healthier…

So… I am the lowest fat possible diet and I work out 7 days a week!!!!!! Usually just walking on the treadmill at the gym (which has my own personal TV right on the machine) or ride the bike. When I don’t go to the gym, I walk around my neighborhood…. I love walking at night time!

For reward, for every two pounds I love I give myself $10 to spend in any way possible… For me, it is usually a new shirt at Ross, and in for two weeks, I get a new pair of pants!

It is so awesome to hear my family say how much I have lost… My goal is to be at 180… So… I am well on my way!

Good luck everyone… The rule is… Just start it… I LOVE IT!

  13. I have a gym membership but unable to really take advantage of it because they dont have daycare. the past week I have been debating on buying a treadmill off of craigslist and dedicating myself to 30 min before work and 30 min after. I might even have the courage to run while i am at home vs at the gym. Also with home, I can watch TV. Eatier healthier combined with the 1hr a day cardio should work wonders for me. Maybe this is something others should think about doing if the issue is getting to the gym. Also the fatloss4idiots using the “Beyond Calories” diet works for me and it may work for others. I once lost 8lbs on this in 7 days. You know your metabolism has kicked into over drive when you are still hungry after eating 6 meals with the diet.

  15. I am getting married in Nov of 2011. I currently weigh my heaviest EVER, 320LBS! I am joining WW tomorrow, and I vow to lose the and keep it off for once and for all. I have joined the YMCA and I am planning to do the treadmill for 30 minutes in the morning, and 30 minutes after work. Hopefully I can stick to this. I would like to weigh 220lbs by this time next yet (Jan 2011), and 180lbs by the wedding….lets see…

  16. Hey, I have lost 9 pounds, want to lose another 91 pounds, and would not mind some email correspondence or perhaps local walking, jogging, workout buddies in the South Florida area. If you want, drop me a line at taveeran@gmail.com.

  17. Hi Everyone,
It is possible. I think anyways. I am currently 295 lbs. I was 320 about 5 weeks ago. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week for an hour each time and I am on watchers. If I keep up this rate I could possibly be down 100 lbs by May. This is with hard work and dedication. You can do it guys! I am doing to good and I never thought I could. Its all in your mind!

  18. 28F/270
I am 5 weeks away from my 29th birthday and I want to lose 100lbs before I turn 30. I have always been plus-sized, but nothing nearly this big. Even at 230 or so pounds I was always active as I had a security job that kept me walking around for at least 6hrs a day. Now I have spend too much time sitting, not exercising and not paying attention to what I’m eating. I am determined to bring in 30 a healthier me. I have a family history of diabetes and heart problems, but thank God that, even in this size, I have no health issues.
Seeing so many other people wanting to take this journey is encouraging. I wish everyone the best in their journeys to lose , be healthy and live longer.
