You may or may not believe it, but fad diets are really no substitute to healthy eating. Fad diets make your health much more complicated than what you begun with. In this article I will tell you about three negative facts about fad diets.

1. You have a low metabolic rate: It is well known that in order to lose weight, you must have a high metabolic rate. However, with all those fad diets available out there, your metabolic rate will actually be low at all times. How, you might ask. Well, some diet plans recommend that you eat ‘low-calorie’ foods; some others are so restrictive that you naturally end up eating only low-calorie foods. The result: low metabolism, low energy level and low efficiency.

When your metabolic rate is low, your body doesn’t burn as much fat as it should. That is the reason why you gain back your ‘lost weight;’ as soon as you quit the diet program and get back to your normal eating mode.

2. You don’t exercise: Fad diets are so attractive because most of them claim to help people lose weight without the aid of exercises. Now, if you can find a weight loss program which offers you quick and effortless weight loss, why would you not fall for it? However, you need to keep in mind that if you want to lose weight fast and permanently, there is no other substitute to exercises. Exercises speed up your metabolic rate to such a high level that you burn fat a lot faster than you would otherwise.

3. Fad diets are bad for children and teenagers: Childhood and teenage years are growing years of a human. Fad diets usually rob the bodies of children and teenagers of growth hormones and other vital nutrients. The end result is that their health is severely affected. Anorexia and depression are common maladies suffered by teenagers who follow fad diets.

As you can see, fad diets are no good. If you want to lose weight, lose it healthily by following a healthy meal plan and exercising regularly. Don’t try to search for shortcuts because there are simply none.
