Biggest Loser Special Edition started last night, apparently, we knew nothing about it until it was on even. The new format of the special edition version of the Biggest Loser is tow hours where the first hour is the two teams working with our old favorites of Jillian and Bob as trainers and going through the regular paces of great quality eating and diet coupled with huge amounts of exercise. The second hour of the show is the two teams back at home where they try to continue losing weight until the final bit of the show where the competition between the two teams is based on percentage of weight lost over five months with the winning team taking home 50,000 dollars.

This week, the first week the two teams were the Muha family from Florida and the Samuels family from Atlanta. The two teams had one fitness competition where the family of three had to carry a giant ice cream sundae a long distance in the shortest amount of time, was not really exciting but anyway the Muha family won.
There was one second competition where the teams had a written test where they had to answer diet and health related questions, the Muha family won again but again it was really close.
At the end of the first hour there was a weigh in where all of the members of the teams lost a phenomenal amount of weight, anywhere from 15-25 pounds just in 11 days. After this both teams where sent home to drop more weight on their own.
At home NBC has equipped each of the teams with their own home gym as well as new appliances (nice plug for GE a few times there) and each team tried to live a very healthy lifestyle. The changes over the 4 and a half months at home were amazing for both teams and going into the final weigh in Bob and Gillian each went to visit their team one or twice to try to help them get that bit of extra weight off.
In the end my wife and I were cheering a little bit more for the Samuels family but it ended up that the Muha family won. It was great to see the attitudes of both teams change over the time losing the weight and especially to see how the daughters, both of whom ere hoping to start careers but not having the confidence before starting the Biggest Loser really started to believe in themselves afterwards.
