acai berry (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) has been a real sensation this year with many new products on the market promising everything from weight loss, antivirus properties and even help for people with Leukemia. Earlier this year Oprah put the acai berry on the top of a list of superfoods and you know how things go when Oprah talks about them, the little Acai berry has not been safe since. To me the real story of the Acai Berry is that it is a fruit berry that has strong antioxidant abilities but lets see what we can find out about Acai Berry and your health.
What is the Acai Berry
The acai Berry fruit, a small, round, black-purple fruit is about 1 inch in diameter, kind of like a grape and grows on a very tall tree. Two crops of fruit are pare grown per year. The Acai berry fruit has a single large seed that takes up a lot of the berry. The skin of a ripe berry is a deep purple color, or green, depending on the kind of acai that it is.
The berries are harvested as food in the Amazon region of Brazil, acai palm (the tree it grows on) is incredibly important as it makes up a lot of the diet for the people in the area and is the biggest cash crop for it’s area of Brazil. Read the rest of this entry »

Looking to make a change and lose some weight? I have reviewed the top diet on the internet and you can go and read over 200 comments people have made about why this diet has worked well for them, as well as some of the problems.
This book to the left is important. You will know that by then end of this post. One of the big things related to planning your day and getting motivated to do things is getting rid of all of those distractions in your head. On a daily basis we apparently think about the same 98% of things that we thought about the day before.
We are living distracted and the worst thing about it is that we are always finding more and more things on the internet to distract us from our goals instead of of simplifying our lives.
I fall into this distraction trap as badly as anyone. I am looking for a new digital camera and must have spent 20 hours researching forums, websites, reviews on Amazon and more. Guess what, earlier this month I was looking for a new pair of headphones to listen to movies with and went through the same process. I spent 10 hours deciding what headphones to buy and in the end I spent $23 on ebay for a pair of headphones. All this work is not at all worth the time that we spend.
The main help for many of our distractions is lists. David Allen of Getting Things Done fame says that your mind will not let go of distractions and ideas and thoughts until you put them somewhere that your mind will trust. One thing that I do in some parts of my life is to have lists. For this and other blogs I will have a list of post ideas and for around the house I do the same. Some parts of my mind are not always clear though. I do not have all the processes in place. Read the rest of this entry »
It is really important to surround yourself with success. As excited as we get in life it is always a struggle at some points. I know that when I am riding my bike in July it is like a dream but in December, not so much. So make sure that you have support all over the place.
So how do you support yourself with success? Mostly from reading and seeing stories about other people that have done what you want to do. If you want to lose weight then go to Amazon and don’t look for the newest hottest diet book but instead look for books and stories about people that have lost weight. You know that these people didn’t just lose weight easily, they had setbacks just like you will have and they will have written about how they coped with these setbacks.
Your friends are also a great inspiration to help you get stronger and improve your confidence. Have you figured out yet that this post is all about confidence being the key to success. Choose your friends and coworkers that you hang out with carefully. Make sure that everyone around you is going to nourish your confidence and be very ready and eager to receive praise from people about your changes and your success
One of the big reasons that I am such a fan of the Biggest Loser TV show is not just to see competition, or fitness tips, or diet tips. The biggest reason I watch the Biggest Loser is to watch success stories in action. See the elation as someone gets one step closer to their goal, see the tears as someone has a bad week or feels their dream slipping away. All of the people on the Biggest Loser TV show win in the end but the struggle is always there and it is incredibly motivating. Read the rest of this entry »
I was in the bookstore with my daughter last week and ran across a book called the Fiber 35 Diet and flipped through it. To say the least the book is interesting.
The Author, Brenda Watson, has beased a whole diet around the idea that most people simply do not get enough fiber in their diet. I think I probably get enough fiber, maybe 20-25 grams a day but brenda would like to see us at 35 grams of fiber a day instead.
So I am snickering to myself in the bookstore that someone has actually written a one trick pony book on how to get more fiber in your diet. Actually in looking at the Fiber 35 Diet there is a lot more.
The basics of the diet are that you take your current diet and slash 1000 calories from your daily intake. You then make sure that you are splitting these calories into 5-7 meals a day, and finally you make sure that your calories are actually in the range of 25% protein, 25% fat and 50% carbohydrates. After 2 weeks of this diet you simply raise your calories by 500 calories a day to get to a more reasonable caloric intake. Read the rest of this entry »
I was looking through the local bookstore last night with the kids and saw this book with an interesting if completely wrong title. What the hell does cardio have with a diet. In my mind there are two parts of a healthy lifestyle and those are diet and exercise. Of course the book intrigued me so I had to pick it up.
Well it seems my first instincy was a little unfair. It seems that the book has good intentions. As far as diet is concerned Jim Karas is more interested in portion control then fighting the whole high protein or low fat or nay other high or low type eating style. Portion control is of course for the most important part of a north american diet and once you have that in check then you can worry about everything else. Read the rest of this entry »
A new way of losing those extra pounds is not by starving but rather by eating certain special foods which help a person burn fat by boosting his metabolism. Such foods are also known as ‘weight loss super foods’. One such super food is the acai berry. It is being cultivated in the forest of Amazon for centuries and the natives have been using it for thousands of years to cure digestive problems, insomnia as well as to take care of their skin.
Very recently however, it was discovered that acai berry also enhances a person’s metabolism, thereby helping him burn fat. In this article I will go into more detail regarding this. Read the rest of this entry »
**Just an update to this post. This was written back when Jillian Michaels left for a season or two. As we all know, Jillian has been back for a while now and is still coaching on the Biggest Loser
I was a little slow on the draw with this one but apparently last week Jillian Michaels announced that she will not be back on the Biggest Loser. To bad, Jillian has always been a great alter ego of the training pair on The Biggest Loser to Bob Harper. While Bob has always been slowly pushed people up to a high intensity workout and eating Jillian has always pushed the contestants on the Biggest Loser right to the edge on the first day.

Jillian has always had a soft side as well. She confessed once last season that when she was young she was overweight and had to really push herself to lose the weight and to get herself into the fantastic shape that really struck all of the fans of the Biggest Loser. Don’t be too worried about Jillian’s future however as she has a great business on and off line as a trainer and an author. Her book last year called Winning by Losing is still on the charts at Amazon.
Jillian is going to be replaced by Kim Lyons, a fitness competitor who lives in California.
I was looking through Dr Phils book, The Ultimate Weight Solution, of seven keys to weight loss freedom. The book seems to make sense from a couple of standpoints but it is interesting how Dr Phil spends so much time on subjects like your relationship to food, your support systems, how you feel emotionally about food and stuff like this. As we all know the psychological aspects of weight loss are really important but what this book is a little more short on is the diet and exercise portion of weight loss than I would like. I know that Dr Phil gets shots taken at him for being so obnoxious and rude to people, apparently for their own good but as I have said before I believe that Dr Phil means well when he comes across with a lot of these ideas.
I think that this book is great for getting the mind aspect of weight loss right, for this Dr Phil is great and then get another book, maybe Body for life or you know my favorite, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle for the diet and exercise portion that they are both so great for in that aspect.
I found this book on Amazon about the weight loss program from the Biggest Loser television show.
Anyway this week was more about motivation and interpersonal relationships than anything. The contestants are realizing that they are not ready to go home yet even though they are making huge losses still. The person that got kicked out this week ended up losing over 100 pounds during and after the show and it was amazing to see the transformation. His wife said he looked 15 years younger! The before and after pics of the people from the first weigh in compared to yesterdays weigh in were amazing to see. All of the people have thinner bodies and especially their faces looked thinner. The weight losses for the people still on the show are anywhere from 41-81 pounds so far.
