When a man enters the age of forty, he begins to experience the awkward feeling of confusion, split personality and stressfulness. He tends to lose his sense of purpose as well as his former self. He is craving for the new order of things, more ventures and is spinning out of control.
In the quest to understand this crisis, series of studies are undertaken. Even the medical science allots time to formulate possible formulas to find the remedy on its symptoms. There are creams, pellets, pills and even surgeries that are deemed to resolve the crisis.
But what is really in the core of this predicament? Dr. Robert S. Tan constructed his book of Andropause mystery: unraveling the truths about male menopause in the pursuit to explain the circumstances and why they happen to a man.
According to Dr. Robert Tan, menopause or the declination of hormonal levels comes to pass to both men and women. For men, such transition period is called andropause. The period usually strikes at forty when age normally causes internal troubles to almost everyone. Subsequently, internal changes had exterior manifestations in terms of social, career and family interactions.
Furthermore, Dr. Robert Tan added that as the man reaches the age of 50-70, the symptoms become more visible and provoked. Symptoms such as declination of levels of virility and energy accompanied by easily being exhausted, rapid mood sways and palpitations appear. Most men report their erectile dysfunction as the most notable event during andropause. Apart from this, Dr. Tan’s patients also complained of their being nervous, irritable and depressed.
Palpitations are due to the decrease of the testosterone level caused by over reaction of the autonomic system. It must be noted that it is natural for men who are suffering from andropause.
Formerly active men who used to be directed to their careers and power enhancement suddenly become close to family and their friends. However, there are some who preferred to find a new set up on their lifestyle which will turn them from the confusion and depression of andropause period.
The medical science has prepared remedies to relieve these symptoms. The problem is that most men do not submit to seeing a doctor even for health reasons. The reason is that it hits their masculine pride to be thought of as either vulnerable or dependent. This becomes a challenge to most wives.
One way to convince men to see the doctor is by accompanying him to a trained and understanding expert. By going together, the doctor can fully extract the needed information from the couple. However, there will also be times when the interview would be held independently to do away with the inhibitions.
As part of the clinical study, the following things are being checked as andropause basis: hair loss, shrinkage of testicles, decrease of libido and sex drive, erectile dysfunction, exhaustion, depression, decrease of muscle strength, oligospermia, and decrease in bone density.
Since the andropause stage could be very stressful among men, it is advisable that wives should become more understanding and supportive. Andropausal men should be encouraged to organize himself, to manage his alcohol and cigarette consumption, to relax, to eat healthy foods and to exercise.
Andropause is another profound journey which needs the positive involvement of the family. Not only men shall beat the odds, but everyone who loves him.

How many times a day does every man and woman receive an email promoting some kind of pill that is supposed to help with Erectile Dysfunction? Fortunately I do not suffer from this but I know that enough people do that Viagra and Levitra are the biggest spam email products on the internet today.
One of the big problems for many of the people taking Viagra or Levitra is that the Erectile Dysfunction that they suffer from is a by product of but health and the drugs if not watched may cause heart attacks or even death. Because of this it is not a good idea to buy a drug that you are not too sure of the side effects of.
The reason that I am even writing this post is because I just ran across an FDA warning that the government is trying to crack down on products that promise a lot but may not deliver anything. Read the rest of this entry »

The usual first step in treating Erectile Dysfunction is to check whether the problem is the result of a medication side effect. If so, there may be a different drug that can be prescribed that won’t result in Erectile Dysfunction. Psychotherapy and behaviour modification may be considered next in some people. If these measures are not enough to resolve the problem, there are some medications that can be prescribed.
Medications are not the only treatment choices for men seeking help for Erectile Dysfunction. One option is a mechanical vacuum device that causes an erection by creating a partial vacuum that draws blood into the penis. These devices have three components: a plastic cylinder the man places his penis in, a pump that draws air out of the cylinder to create the vacuum that pulls blood into the penis, and an elastic band that is placed around the base of the erect penis before it is withdrawn from the cylinder. The band keeps the blood from leaving the penis, allowing the man to maintain the erection.
In some cases, surgery is an option. One type of surgery reconstructs arteries in men whose blood flow to the area has been affected; another blocks off veins that allow blood to leak out of the penis. There is also an operation in which a device is implanted into the penis that enables it to become erect.
Each treatment method has its own risks and benefits, and a man needs to discuss his options with his doctor in order to select the method that is right for him. It is also important to let the doctor know how well the treatment is working, because if one treatment doesn’t work, another might. A man should never try combining medicines or changing dosages on his own. Only a doctor can determine what is a safe level of treatment.
Some men find that some simple lifestyle changes ease the problem. It may help to get more sleep, quit smoking, exercise regularly, find ways to reduce stress, and speak with a doctor if anxiety or depression are a problem. Some men and their partners recognize that sex doesn’t have to mean just intercourse. A pleasurable sexual encounter can involve a variety of different activities.
However a man chooses to face the situation, it is important for him to discuss the issue openly and honestly with his partner, because the partner may mistakenly interpret an inability to have an erection as a loss of desire or attraction. Simply reassuring his partner that the love and desire are still there can be very helpful in addressing some of the emotional issues that surround Erectile Dysfunction.
If you have any questions about erectile dysfunction, you can ask your pharmacist, who will keep your conversation strictly confidential.

The doctor usually begins by asking questions about the man’s medical and sexual history. This information will help the doctor understand the nature of the problem, determine how serious it is, and identify the underlying cause. For example, the medical history may point to a disease such as diabetes as the cause, or questions about the man’s history can help distinguish ED from problems with desire, ejaculation, or orgasm.
The next step is a physical examination. If the penis is not sensitive to touch, there may be a problem with the nerves. Abnormal sex-related characteristics (such as unusual hair patterns) may point to a hormonal cause. Decreased pulses in the wrist or ankles may indicate a problem with blood flow.
There are laboratory tests that can help in the diagnosis as well. Some tests uncover underlying diseases that require treatment; others can measure hormone levels. There are tests that can detect nerve damage and measure blood flow to the penis. One technique that is some¬times used is monitoring a man while he sleeps. Healthy men have involuntary erections during sleep, so if a man does not have them, his ED may have a physical cause rather than a psychological one. However, these tests are not completely reliable, and doctors disagree about when they should be used.
Psychological examinations that use a questionnaire and an interview can reveal psychological factors. The man’s sexual partner may also be interviewed.

Any man can have a problem getting or maintaining an erection once in a while. When this happens repeatedly, the problem is known as erectile dysfunction, or simply ED.
It is normal for a man to experience changes in his sexual patterns as he ages. It may take longer for him to develop an erection, his penis may not become as rigid, or it may take more stimulation to bring about an erection. It is not uncommon for older men to have less intense orgasms than they used to, and it may take them longer to recover between erections.
An erection begins with stimulation. This can be a mental image, physical contact, or both. The stimulation causes the brain to send a signal to the muscles in the penis telling them to relax. This permits blood to flow in and fill the spongy interior of the penis, causing it to expand. Once a man has an erection, the muscles contract to stop blood from flowing in. When the blood begins to flow out, the erection reverses. When something happens to disrupt this chain, the result can be ED.
What causes Erectile Dysfunction?
The most common cause of Erectile Dysfunction is damage to nerves, arteries, muscles, and other tissues that may be the result of a health problem such as diabetes, kidney disease, chronic alcoholism, multiple sclerosis, cardiovascular disease, or neuro¬logic disease. An injury to the penis, spinal cord, prostate, bladder, or pelvis can harm nerves, muscles, or arteries and can lead to Erectile Dysfunction.
Erectile Dysfunction may also occur as a side effect of certain medicines, including some blood pressure drugs, antihistamines, antidepressants, tranquilizers, and appetite suppressants.
Psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, guilt, depression, low self-esteem, and fear of sexual failure can also influence a man’s ability to achieve and maintain an erection.
Other possible causes include smoking (which affects blood flow in the veins and arteries), heavy alcohol consumption, and hormonal abnormalities such as low testosterone levels.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers not to purchase or consume Zimaxx, Libidus, Neophase, Nasutra, Vigor-25, Actra-Rx, or 4EVERON. These products are promoted and sold on web sites as “dietary supplements” for treating erectile dysfunction (ED) and enhancing sexual performance, but they are in fact illegal drugs that contain potentially harmful undeclared ingredients. These products have not been approved by FDA, and there is no guarantee of their safety and effectiveness, or of the purity of their ingredients.
What can the FDA do about crap products?
FDA advises consumers who have used any of these products to discontinue use and to consult their health care provider. FDA encourages anyone experiencing ED to seek guidance from a health care provider before purchasing a product to treat this medical condition.
“These products threaten the public health because they contain undeclared chemicals that are similar or identical to the active ingredients used in several FDA-approved prescription drug products. This risk is even more serious because consumers may not know that these ingredients can interact with medications and dangerously lower their blood pressure,” said Dr. Steven Galson, Director of FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.
