Fat Loss for Idiots

Tonight I finally saw last nights episode of the Biggest Loser and I must say it was great. One of the teams (Bob Harper’s team) did not have Bob to train them for three days and in the end all of them put up big numbers and won easily. The red team of Kim Lyons lost again this week so they ended up kicking out the biggest hair in the history of Reality TV and that was Ken from Washington. Again some of the players on the red team think this is survivor and seem to be playing the game more than anything already.

There were a couple of real highlights of this weeks show and one of them was the doctor that is monitoring all of the players coming in and talking about where they were health wise. It seems that all of those obesity related problems like high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes that these people all had are gone now, and after only 6 weeks. That is amazing!

The other great news this week is that two of the people that have been working out from home are going to be going on the show next week as they kick out two more people, and apparently the new people have lost more weight than the people on the ranch.

I am looking forward to next week more than I have any week of this show for the last few weeks. If looks like the show has really gotten it together now.

Looking to make a change and lose some weight? I have reviewed the top diet on the internet and you can go and read over 200 comments people have made about why this diet has worked well for them, as well as some of the problems.

I have been having trouble getting in front of the TV over the last couple of weeks so I watched the last two episodes of the Biggest Loser on consecutive nights on video tape and I am getting disappointed.

The shows have been just the same as in the last couple of seasons but it seems that the two teams, well especially the Red team of Kim Lyons are really really winey. I am sure that all of the players are being pushed harder than they ever have been pushed in their lives and this week we saw tears all over, even from Kim but it seems that the teams are fighting making changes.

We all know that change is hard. The Biggest Loser contestants are having a really tough time of it as they are very rapidly losing fat and gaining muscle, Eating little and exercising lots but the end of the journey is going to be fantastic for everyone. All of these people have a once in a lifetime opportunity to change their bodies, outlook, lifestyle and even get a little bit of fame and they are crying and fighting it. What are they thinking! No one gets this kind of opportunity.

The other thing that is really disconcerting is the way that the players are playing the Game. This is not supposed to be Survivor, it is supposed to be a bunch of people helping each other make a change in their lives and to have a player like Kai treat it like survivor really sullies the show.

Lastly I have a problem with the production itself. We are not getting a chance like on Survivor or Amazing race to learn more and more about each player. The producers hit on the same subjects of starving, tiredness, a lifetime of fat, and missing the family but we do not know anything else about the struggles and successes in life that each of these people have gone through. I think that a lot more background on the show of each player would really make them more well rounded and the show itself a lot more fun to watch.

I know that this bitch session is not very fair and everyone that knows me knows that I will continue to watch the show and find someone to cheer for but so far this season has been a bit disappointing and I hope there are changes made to this and next season to make it more fun to watch.

This week the Biggest Losers went on a cruise. This was a pretty fun episode to watch as there were a lot of things that people take for granted that were brought up. The Biggest Loser contestants went on a cruise ship and it was a classic vacation and answered one of those burning questions of “what happens once these people leave the ranch?” The answers were all there. First of all the cruise ship was empty except for the cast, crew and contestants and there was lots of food. It seemed that everyone was a bit nervous about being in a vacation atmosphere and for one team it was worse than the other.

First thing is exercise. All cruiseships have an exercise room that is used very little. Let’s face it most people ton vacation take time off of a diet and exercise. Bob Harper and Kim Lyons made it clear that if you are on vacation you can have a short intense workout and you will not have to worry about it for the rest of the day. The example that they used was circuit training. Circuit training with weight equipment does two things; it is a great cardio workout and is also good for working your muscle groups intensely like a weight workout.

Diet, this was a tough one as everyone loves a buffet. Bob Harper talked to his team about going around the buffet and asking questions before grabbing anything so that you do not eat a lot of high fat foods and then go for seconds. Kim Lyons said the best thing to use was a small plate because you will fill as big a plate as you have.

I have been a bit slow but finally am now getting around to blogging the first episode of the Biggest Loser. I watched this two hour premiere with my wife and 6 year old daughter and it is funny how we each saw things differently. When they went through all of the people’s attitudes at the beginning I was bored but my wife was crying from all of the stories, my daughter just wanted to know who we were going to cheer for.

First of all both my wife and I noticed Kim Lyons chest, are those for real or an enhancement for her fitness competitions? This also leads to a question of Kim Lyons past…Did she ever have a weight problem? We know from last season that Jillian Michaels was overweight when she was young and it is something that really drives her to help other people.

Bob Harper as always is a real character and has a really funny haircut, some kind of Mohawk hairstyle from the early eighties. Bob is great to watch because he is such a good motivator and is really excited for everyone.

Kim Lyons – Red Team
Heather, Jennifer, Kai, Ken, Nelson, Pam, and Wylie. Of all of the people on the Red team we certainly liked Ken and Jennifer best

Bob Harper – Blue Team

Amy, Bobby, Brian, Erik, Marty, Melinda, and Tiffany. No one on this team really stood out for us but Bobby, who missed his kids came across as a bit of a whiner.

The challenge this week was for all of the people split into teams to go over progressively larger barriers as a team and the team that won would get to choose a player from each team to swap for the weigh in, this could make a real difference if one team had a big losing member and one team had a small losing member. Everyone seemed to struggle somewhat in this challenge but there were definitely some people that were barely able to make it over the last 6 foot high or so barrier. On this show it seems that everyone near the end is in amazing shape and that is one of the really great things to watch as the season of Biggest Loser goes on. The red team won the contest and the blue team was fading fast by the end.

<a href=Biggest Loser Season 3" src="http://www.fitnesstipsforlife.com/wp-content/uploads/biggestloser.jpg" width="116" height="111" hspace="5" align="left">Well the wait is finally over for the Biggest Loser 3. Last night they started with a two hour season premiere and this year the format is a little different. The show started with one contestant from each state with the trainers, Bob Harper and Kim Lyons choosing seven people each for their teams and a promise from the host Caroline Rhea to the other 36 contestants that they were still in it and that two more would be brought back. The start of this season brings more questions than answers, namely:

How will they bring back two more people? Will there be a decision to have the two biggest weight losers over the first two or four weeks come back? Will they just have the two biggest losers come back for the finale show?

You can keep track of the “other 36″ over at the NBC Biggest Loser site but the show should tell us a bit more as it goes along.

The other problem that I have with the starting format this year is the fact that having 50 people start and then only 14 continue somehow dilutes the show. We got a good 20 minutes of people telling their stories ( my wife teared up more than a bit) and then they leave 10 minutes later with a few parting gifts…that really sucks for the contestants as well as the viewers.

I will post again about the show itself but I just wanted to put in my two cents about that part of the show that we will hopefully get answers to in the next few weeks.

My favorite diet and exercise show, The Biggest Loser is coming back soon. The two hour season premiere is on NBC on Wednesday September 20th. Let’s see what we can learn this season. I will of course blog the episodes as I love the show but as we are only a couple of weeks away here are some ideas of how you can get ready and celebrate the start of the show over the next two weeks.

First, let’s make the Biggest Loser season 3 a celebration of change and how we can change our lives in a short time with the right attitude and goals. Make sure that over the next two weeks that you make some big goals. Just think, a regular season of any TV show lasts about 16 to 20 weeks and this show is not any different. Are you going to try to lose twenty pounds? Are you going to exercise six days a week while the show is running? Are you going to launch a new exercise AND eating schedule to change your shape and change you life?

Second, find some really fun things to do while watching the show itself. Make a new low calorie snack every night for the duration of Biggest Loser 3. Maybe have a goal for the number of crunches that you do during each episode.

Third, mark down the date of each show and watch it while having fun cheering for the people that you like best. I will try my best to chronicle the lessons learned each week from the show as well as updates on the characters and How the two trainers, Bob and the new Kim Lyons.

Tick, tick, tick time is counting down to the newest biggest loser season.

Kim Lyons is a fitness contest competitor from California. Yesterday I posted about how Jillian Michaels has left the Biggest Lose and is being replaced by Kim Lyons . Who is Kim Lyons you may be wondering? Well I dug around and found the following bio on her at the Kim Lyons website. It looks like she has quite the background and I am excited to see her in action when the Biggest Loser comes back to TV next January

Height 5′4
Birthday 5-5-73
Weight 120 off season 115 competition
Measurements 34-24-34
Hair Blonde
Eyes Brown

My Childhood

“Home is not the place where you live, but the place where you belong”

I was born in Texas, then moved to England, Sacramento CA, New Mexico, Alabama, Back to Sacramento, Idaho, Virginia, Colorado, Texas, Arizona, Italy, Utah and now I’m in Hermosa Beach, CA Although I always made where I’m living home, I have been coming to Hermosa Beach since I was five to spend the summers with my Grandparents. I have always called Hermosa “home”. It is the only place that I have continued to return to throughout my life. It sounds silly, but I still get so excited every time I wake up and realize I live here!

Athletic Background
I have always been involved in sports. Gymnastics, dance, track, softball, and cheerleading were I spent most of my time. Moving so often it was hard to make new friends, having sports always put me in with a little group. I cheered all the way through my last year in college. Most people really under estimate how much athletic talent and time is required as a collegian cheerleader.

Getting started as a fitness competitor
I never planned on a career in fitness. Throughout college I studied nutrition and other related topics to get my BS in Human Development and Nutrition. I just needed to get a degree so I could become an airline pilot. That was my goal. However, my love and passion of the fitness industry and modeling lead me down a different path.

Shortly after graduating from Colorado State I began teaching aerobics and working at the front desk at a new World Gym opening up across the street. I rarely lifted weights, and taught about 6 classes a week. One of the trainers asked me if I wanted to train with him and another girl looking to share the cost of the sessions. The other girl, Shannon, was training for the Galaxy. She had the most amazing abs I’d ever seen. After about a month of training and learning to eat better, my body had drastically changed and I decided to compete as well. There were about 100 girls in the competition and I placed somewhere in the top 20. I was super happy with that and had a blast. Even better, I was swamped by several top photographers in the business. I started to get exposure, and from there the ball kept rolling. I never dreamed I’d actually get the job of my dreams as a “Weider Athlete”. I have since signed on as part of “Team Muscle Tech”. Life just keeps getting better!

Me in a Nutshell!
I’m a totally down to earth! I believe in the good old fashion phrase “Treat others as you’d like them to treat you!” If I’m having a bad day and someone smiles, says hello, or gives a compliment can really turn my day around. Sometimes I feel like everyone is so quick to be critical and not to give a compliment. I think we all critique ourselves enough, sometimes it is hard to see the beauty in ourselves.

I guess overall I’m pretty much a goofball. I’d say I have a smile on my face 90% of the time. Doing sexy shoots is not my thing, I think I look silly when I have a serious face! Many people think I’m a goodie two shoes because I don’t do a lot of sexy T and A shoots, but really I just have a butt complex and my top half is usually to lean to brag about! I’m super independent and love to be alone. I love days when I can just sit around my house, catch up on e-mails, clean out a drawer or two, fold the laundry, and walk the dog. I don’t understand how people can be bored. I need about ten lifetimes to do everything I want to do!
