Spider vein removal is one of many things that we can do to help our bodies look and feel better, contributing to our general feeling of wellbeing. Spider veins are completely harmless and this is primarily a cosmetic treatment. Still, for some people whose faces or legs are affected, treatment can bring new confidence and help with depression and relationship problems.
Spider veins are the common name for telangiectasias which are small dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin. They mainly form on the legs and face, and 80% of sufferers are women. They usually start to develop between the ages of 18 and 35, and peak in late middle age.
A tendency to telangiectasia is hereditary. Facial spider veins are sometimes caused by rosacea which is also often inherited and is associated with light skin. Obesity, pregnancy hormonal fluctuations and birth control pills, a sedentary lifestyle, a job that involves a lot of standing, and even high heeled shoes can contribute to the likelihood of developing spider veins on the legs. You have probably seen the news stories over the last couple of days about the FDA and Lasik eye surgery. As a lifelong contact lens and glasses wearer I thought that it would be important to look at why this is important and what you should think about when considering any corrective eye surgery.
Criticism of FDA policy
First of all the FDA does have a site dedicated to Lasik surgery and the benefits as well as the risks of the quick and easy surgery. One of the criticisms by consumer groups was that the FDA was not stressing hard enough the bad side effects that are possible with Lasik surgery.
Another issue that is often overlooked is regular aging of people and of eyesite. Any reputable ophthalmologist will agree that most men begin losing near sitedness in their 40s so the idea that Lasic or any other corrective surgery will get rid of glasses for life is not very realistic. I think that many people that have not tried acupuncture, me included are most concerned about the needles. I have always heard that acupuncture needles do not hurt at all but if you are getting poked with 100 or so needles it must get painful at some point right?
Anyway there is a form of acupuncture called laser acupuncture, not sure if this would be less painful or more but it is an interesting idea and something to look into if the fear is just a fear of needles
What is Laser Acupuncture?
In the United States there is currently an obsession with research that needs to go into the study of acupuncture in order to realize just how beneficial the process can be. However, even before the full benefits of acupuncture could be realized within the United States the whole process of the therapy is about to change. Even though this change has not been real widespread, one of the major changes within the acupuncture world is the fact that lasers have now been added to the already overly-complicated technique of acupuncture. There are many reasons why lasers have been added to the process and some of those reasons will be focused on within this article. But the fact of the matter remains that the whole face of acupuncture has changed, but whether it has been for the better or for the worse still remains to be seen. Read the rest of this entry »

Acne is a disorder that causes outbreaks of skin lesions commonly called pimples. It is caused by the skins oil glands making too much sebum, an oily substance, which leads to plugged pores. It also can be caused by the rapid production of a bacteria P. acnes.
Acne lesions occur mostly on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders. It is the most common skin disease. Although acne is not a serious health threat, severe acne can lead to disfiguring and permanent scarring.
How does acne affect women?
Most young women and men will have at least a few pimples over the course of their lives. But acne seems to affect men and women in different ways. Young men are more likely to have a more serious form of acne. Acne in young women tends to be more random and linked to hormone changes, such as the menstrual cycle.
As women get older, acne often gets better. But some women have acne for many years. Some women even get acne for the first time at age 30 or 40.
For many women, acne can be an upsetting illness. Women may have feelings of depression, poor body image, or low self-esteem. But you don’t have to wait to outgrow acne or to let it run its course. Today, almost every case of acne can be resolved. Acne also can, sometimes, be prevented. Talk with your doctor or dermatologist (a doctor who specializes in treating skin problems) about how you can help prevent acne and if treatment would help you.

My brother in law told me at one point that he had sleep apnea. The next week my boss, who never slept well and had a problem staying up in meetings, told me that he had sleep apnea and after having it treated he was really happy to be sleeping better and to be more rested all of the time.
Sleep Apnea is a very exhausting condition that causes you to wake up a bit all night long all the time so that you never get a restful night sleep. A horrible thought for everyone and real hell if you are the one that is suffering from this.
What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea?
The most common kind of sleep apnea is called Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome. Sleep apnea means “cessation of breath.” It is characterized by repetitive episodes of upper airway obstruction that occur during sleep, usually associated with a reduction in blood oxygen saturation. In other words, the airway becomes obstructed at several possible sites. The upper airway can be obstructed by excess tissue in the airway, large tonsils, a large tongue and usually includes the airway muscles relaxing and collapsing when asleep. Another site of obstruction can be the nasal passages. Sometimes the structure of the jaw and airway can be a factor in sleep apnea.
What are the symptoms of Sleep Apnea?
* excessive daytime sleepiness
* frequent episodes of obstructed breathing during sleep. (The patient may be unaware of this symptom — usually the bed partner is extremely aware of this).
