I missed the last episode of Biggest Loser Couples. I had the episode on the PVR and while out of town my wife and daughter watched it and deleted it….I am not too heartbroken.
I thought that in two hours they were going to kick someone off the show and get down to three people competing at home to see who would be the Biggest Loser and win the $250,000 Biggest Loser grand prize.
No one got kicked off, just tow people are in the competition for the third spot, Ed and his wife Heba.
So what are the chances that each of the final four has of winning?
Ed started Biggest Loser weighing 335 pounds now down 83 pounds to 252 pounds or 24.8%
Heba started Biggest Loser weighing 294 pounds now down 84 pounds to 210 pounds or 28.6%
Vicky started Biggest Loser weighing 246 pounds now down 76 pounds to 170 pounds or 30.9%
Michelle started Biggest Loser weighing 242 pounds now down 80 pounds to 162 pounds or 33.1% Read the rest of this entry »

I have been out of town the last couple of days and today I go home. I am really looking forward to seeing my wife Michelle and the kids.
Today the weather in Thunder Bay is wonderful, a bit chilly though. I got up at 7 which is only 5 AM at home and snuck down to the gym for a workout. It always surprises me how people can be so quiet in the hallways and lobby of a hotel but when you go into a hotel gym the one other guy was really friendly. No matter how good or bad shape you are in he and I were both there taking care of ourselves while the rest of the hotel is sleeping I guess.
I always wonder why people do not workot more when out of town? I have my schedule all thrown off, I miss my family but getting a workout in and pushing out those endorphins always really improves my attitude.
Have a great day!

I am blessed to have two crazy kids, well mostly blessed. My wife, Michelle, works on the weekends and I end up looking after the kids. When I first started looking after the little ones on the weekends I would make myself a big breakfast and then a smaller one for each of the kids. Did not work so well.
Kids tend to eat at their own pace and I was for a couple of weeks having these huge breakfasts of six eggs and four pieces of toast and even a couple of bowls of cereal. I learned fairly quickly to not cook breakfast for myself and just live off the remains of the kids.
Where does the human garbage can come from? Kids seem to have their own internal hanger clock, mine will snack a lot and eat small meals so as soon as I adjusted to that I was much better off. Before I adjusted to the kids weekend eating schedule I would eat whatever I prepared for them that they did not eat. Now I make decent sized meals (except breakfast) and whenever they are looking for a snack I just grab something out of the fridge for them to eat.
Parents are bad for being a human garbage can, constantly eating that little bit of food that the kids did not want, eating everything that is left and eating the leftovers in the fridge before they have gone bad. I have found that one of the best methods of feeding the kids is to make generic meals that they can eat over and over again although I always make sure to microwave to reheat only once….well I started doing that when my wife told me it was bad to reheat reheated food.

My wife has just started getting innohep injections for blood thinning. My wife Michelle has recently had some lumps pop up on her legs. Of course anytime you have lumps show up it has to make you nervous so Michelle went to the doctor and found out that she has some kind of blood clots. A bit of history here, a couple of years ago Michelle at varicose vein surgery on her legs that was supposed to get rid of this problem that she has had since her early teen years, the surgery did nothing and the veins are still with her.
Back to the innohep. Innohep as you may or may note know is hapearin based. Heparin itself as well as innohep are designed to be anticoagulants, that is drugs that stop your blood from clotting and because of this innohep and heparin get rid of existing blood clots.
Our family doctor checked my wife’s lumps and told her that she would have to take 1800 IU innohep shots and some aspirin 325 mg each day, the shots are only for a week. The aspirin is making her a little light headed which is worse than the shots are. One crappy side effect of the innohep is that the place where I give her a shot bruises up very badly but that should go away in a few days.
I have been the one that has to give Michelle the shots in the fatty portion of the lower stomach. The first night was really bad, Michelle was nervous, I was nervous, the needle was sitting in my for 25 minutes. Finally I gave Michelle the first shot and it did not hurt her at all. Ever since the first day of the ten day treatment there have been no problems giving the innohep shots and Michelle is getting lots of giant bruises on her stomach but no pain from the shots at all.
All in all the innohep experience has not been bad at all the last few days after that first tough shot. I am editing this post after her ten days obviously and can say now that there are no side effects from the innohep and her lumps have gone down.

OK I get to finally talk about which plan I support for weight control. Over the years I have seen all the diets come and go. My dad years back did the Mayo Clinic diet, my wife joined Jenny Craig, and I have a bookshelf full of books starting with Susan Powter’s “Stop The Insanity”, Atkins Diet books, the GI Diet, Dr Phil’s Diet books and even more that I can even think of without standing in front of the bookshelf.
So what’s my favorite? It’s Weight Watchers. My wife joined Weight Watchers a few years back before getting pregnant with our second and I was more than a little skeptical. Over the years we learned so much about our diets, exercise and the role that weights cardio, carbs, fats, protein, and water played in our lives that I was pretty sure we could do it ourselves. Lastly I was nervous about how my wife Michelle was going to do as Jenny Craig had not gone well and she was talking about gastro banding surgery….this is something that I am not a big fan of at all unless as a last resort.
Well I was apparently wrong. Weight Watchers has a very simple system for weight loss by giving a point value to every food based on the calories, fat and fiber. Weight Watchers also has people mark down in a journal all of the fats and water taken in as well as number of servings of fruit. One really important factor to me is that weight watchers does not ban certain foods but instead preaches portion control and the ideals of healthy eating. This means that you will not get bored of the food and stray off of your diet, in fact it never feels like a diet to us but just a responsible way of eating.
Although the weight loss that Michelle has experienced is not like on The Biggest Loser TV show it is consistent and it has been really great to see the results. One of the really great things about Weight Watchers is the support that they give, Michelle goes to a meeting every Saturday morning where she weighs in and then a leader talks about holiday eating or motivation or what to replace problem goods with and at the end of the meeting Michele will often come home with a great new recipe.
Our family is definitely a Weight Watchers family with her watching the way she eats every day but more importantly we have great meals that are easy to make and not to strict and the whole family eats the same meal for dinner instead of us having a diet meal and three regular meals.
There are Weight Watchers meetings in practically every city in North America and there is great online support as well with an extensive website and numerous internet message boards.
