The fun and fitness that is Wii fitness has no comparison, after a year or so I am still having fun with this thing. After running around the living room for half an hour, impersonating a tree, punching the air and whacking invisible tennis balls, any casual observer could be forgiven for thinking you might be a little off-the-wall.
But the Wii has revolutionized gaming. The main difference is that you experience it, you don’t just sit there and play! It is not like the old style of gaming where the only body part that moves was your thumbs. Oh no. The Wii is the perfect solution for those with sloth-like tendencies because it blends socializing with doing exercise that is actually fun! Playing the Wii involves stretching, balancing, an increased heart rate and getting very hot! Cast aside stereotypes of gaming being mainly a male (usually young male) pastime. Using the Wii can involve the whole family with friends thrown into the mix too. Put simply, it’s for everyone.
Currently, the Nintendo Wii games console has reached worldwide sales of 50 million units. The president Satoru Iwata expressed recently that it was “more than they could have possibly hoped for.” Read the rest of this entry »

We have all seen Allison Sweeney gaining her baby belly over the last couple of seasons of the Biggest Loser but today I ran across the first pic of mom and baby on the People Magazine site.
When the time came for mom-of-two Alison Sweeney to shed the weight she gained while pregnant with daughter Megan Hope, 5 months, she drew from her experience as host of NBC’s The Biggest Loser.
“I’ve learned a lot about nutrition and how to count my calories” as a result of the show, she told PEOPLE at the second birthday party for pal Nancy O’Dell’s daughter, Ashby, over the weekend.
Losing the pregnancy weight with a Wii
Of course, juggling a diet and exercise routine with two small children and a busy career is tough, but Sweeney says she found a great ally in the EA Sports Active package for the Nintendo Wii. Read the rest of this entry »

Two of my favorite subjects all in one story.
Jillian Michaels from the Biggest Loser TV show is working with a company to come out with a Wii Fit type of game. As we all know Wii Fit has been really popular and I am yet to find one at the stores so apparently there is a big market for more of these games. Kinda reminds me of the fight between “Rock Band” and “Guitar Hero”. The game will come out in time for Christmas and I am sure we will see lots of competition at Christmas which can only be good for people to get into better shape in the worst weight gain time of the year.
Game publisher Majesco Entertainment has announced a partnership with celebrity fitness trainer Jillian Michaels for an exercise-themed video game for the Nintendo Wii.
“Jillian Michaels’ Fitness Ultimatum 2009,” slated for a holiday release, leverages the motion-based Wii system and Balance Board accessory to create a title that combines solid game play with a fitness regimen, advice and exercise techniques provided by Michaels, the strength trainer and life coach on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser.”
“I truly think this type of product will be instrumental in revolutionizing the fitness industry and will help combat the childhood obesity epidemic in this country,” Michaels said.

I know lots of people have talked in the last year about using a Wii for getting exercise but I sat on the sidelines, sad because I had no Nintendo Wii.
Well this has all changed now since I got a Nintendo Wii yesterday for the kids for Christmas. I am not sure if the Wii is really going to be a fitness machine but I am really excited about Christmas morning and trying this thing out.
I just ran across a site for a Wii workout called Wii Healthy. The site has a workout program that i will have to try and see how well it works.
Really the Wii looks like more fun than exercise but if you are moving then you are getting exercise right? Well I am sure we will soon se a bunch more Wii related “get in shape” type articles so it will again be fun to see since I can actually take part.
Now in response to everything that Nintendo has heard and seen about response to the Wii. Nintendo has come out with an actual fitness program called Wii Fit. The idea behind Wii Fit is that you get a board around 18 inches or so wide and do certain exercises on this and see yourself (or a reasonable facsimile of yourself) on the screen. You can also track your results as can everyone else in the family. I can imagine this whole idea scaling out where you can have fitness contests with other people online. Very exciting to be sure.
