I wrote a post last week about the seeming epidemic of Vitamin D deficiency. My wife, sister, and friend all have this and I was kind of wondering why thinking that maybe the lack of time in the sun in the Winter may be the culprit.
As we all have heard in the past the best way to get Vitamin D is to get time in the sun although there are many food sources for Vitamin D like salmon, sardines, shrimp, milk, cod, and eggs.
I found the following snippet of info from a Canadian doctor in talking about our body synthesizing and getting Vitamin D from being in the sun: Read the rest of this entry »

I have written before about the best way to suntan and the best ways to get rid of a sunburn but now that Summer is here and I really do get concerned about the people that read my suntanning articles.
I worry that people will get sunburned, I know that people can easily get skin cancer from overexposure to the sun but also I remember how hard I tried in my late teens and twenties to get the best suntan possible with the skin type that I have.
These sun worshipers bake themselves carefully and with proper apparent care. They are careful to turn and twist their bodies in a way best calculated to get an even, rich suntan over as much of their skin as possible. They slather themselves with the latest lotion that promises to keep out harmful sun-ray effects and most importantly guarantees a deep tan.
“Ah, it feels so good,” they say. And I, with a trace of the sun worshiper still in me, agree. The warmth feels like a balm. Vitamin D is brought to the body by the sunlight’s effect on the skin. The pimples of acne can diminish or disappear when the sun’s ultraviolet rays play upon them.
Any teen-ager who winces with pain of sunburn when clapped on the back can testify that the extra time in the sun is never good. For everyone there is an amount and degree of sun beyond which danger lies.
Even a person who tans readily and easily may get harmful changes in his skin if he has too much exposure. Read the rest of this entry »

I was looking through some of my old posts from last year and thought I would bring them back as many of this blogs readers had never had the chance to read them.
With another hot summer weekend coming up it is very important to take care in the sun. For the people looking to get a nice dark suntan I wrote a post on how to get a suntan. When you are out getting that suntan though do not overdo it. I wrote that there are precautions that you can take to make sure that you do not get too much sun and how to be careful when you are in the sun.
If you do over do it then I worte an article about how to get rid of a sunburn.
Finally if you are one of many that think that it is best to avoid the sun altogether I was able to find an article that tells you about the good and bad of getting sun.
Have a great and sunny weekend.

Natural complexion care products do not have to be expensive. Your own kitchen is a treasure-trove of organic body treatments. With only a few minutes of preparation, you can formulate your own safe, affordable body surface treatments for glowing, healthy-looking skin.
The skin treatments you choose have as much impact on the outer surface of your body as environmental factors, eating habits, and stress. Yet it is difficult to find affordable skin products in stores, and often the ones that contain organic ingredients are the most expensive of all.
Do you purchase costly beauty products at your local mall or department store? Why not look in your own kitchen cupboards? The organic skin treatments you create yourself can give you the luminous, wholesome skin you seek, without the high price.
Skin Care throughout Life
Even babies require proper skin care. Smooth, healthy skin starts with mild soap and water. Little bottoms require care to prevent diaper rash. Children need basic cleansing and moisturizing to maintain their healthy glow. Adolescence brings new problems, including pimples, oily skin, and blackheads. Senior skin is even more sensitive than adolescent skin, and is often extremely dry. As we mature, it becomes even more important to opt for applications that are wholesome and natural.
Affordable Skin Products for Beautiful Skin
Your skin is affected by everything it touches. It absorbs your lotion, astringent, deodorant, and anything else you put on it. Natural skin treatments are free from potentially harmful chemicals and are very inexpensive. They are a healthful, practical approach to proper skin care.
Here are some recommendations for some easy and effective skin treatments that you can make at home.
For a facial masque, blend honey and egg yolk. Spread a thin layer over your face, wait twenty minutes, and rinse (If the honey tickles too much, leave it out. This masque tightens your pores without it.)
Almost all commercially available moisturizers contain oil. Olive oil accomplishes the same result for far less cost. Smooth it on your skin for a wonderful moisturizer. It is even good for sunburn!
To gently exfoliate, try baking soda. While in the shower or bath, gently scrub with a small amount. You can rub a bit harder in areas with blackheads, such as the nose or the notorious T-Zone.
In place of deodorant, try a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. Vinegar is non-irritating and it is an excellent deodorant. A comforting vinegar foot bath can ameliorate the condition known as athlete’s foot as well.
Tomatoes can be a great skin toner. Slice thinly and lay across the oily areas of your face. (If your skin is sensitive, skip this one.)
Organic skin care does not have to come from fancy bottles or shiny packages. You can make your own personal, affordable skin products right in your own kitchen. When you use your own ingredients, you know that your natural complexion care treatments are pure, healthful, and good for your skin.

Acne is a disorder that causes outbreaks of skin lesions commonly called pimples. It is caused by the skins oil glands making too much sebum, an oily substance, which leads to plugged pores. It also can be caused by the rapid production of a bacteria P. acnes.
Acne lesions occur mostly on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders. It is the most common skin disease. Although acne is not a serious health threat, severe acne can lead to disfiguring and permanent scarring.
How does acne affect women?
Most young women and men will have at least a few pimples over the course of their lives. But acne seems to affect men and women in different ways. Young men are more likely to have a more serious form of acne. Acne in young women tends to be more random and linked to hormone changes, such as the menstrual cycle.
As women get older, acne often gets better. But some women have acne for many years. Some women even get acne for the first time at age 30 or 40.
For many women, acne can be an upsetting illness. Women may have feelings of depression, poor body image, or low self-esteem. But you don’t have to wait to outgrow acne or to let it run its course. Today, almost every case of acne can be resolved. Acne also can, sometimes, be prevented. Talk with your doctor or dermatologist (a doctor who specializes in treating skin problems) about how you can help prevent acne and if treatment would help you.
To find out about the the best acne treatment read my review.

We all know the dangers of getting too much sun and I wrote about both how to get rid of a sunburn as well as the danger of getting too much sun but today I wanted to live out a bit of a dream and write about how to get your best suntan ever.
Why get the best suntan possible? Well as Chris Stephens, the DJ on on the television show Northern Exposure once said
“Sometimes you have to do something bad – just to know you’re alive.”
Back when I was 15 to 20 I tried every Summer to get the greatest suntan ever and I used to tell my buddy Darin White and I would one day write a book about how to get the best suntan. Well this is not a book but it is an opportunity to spill everything I ever learned over the years about how to get the best suntan. I believe that there are 10 steps and then I will end with a bunch of tips of what I think are important tips on how to get the best tan this summer that you have ever had. Here are the 10 steps first that you will need to do in the first place to get a good tan.
Looking for a cheap and effective diet? fat loss For Idiots is cheap and works great. I have reviewed it here,
Lufa and exfoliate
Exfoliating your skin is a very good idea. When you are getting a suntan the color that you get is a result of the skin reacting to the sun. If you have dead skin on top of your good skin then it will be blocking the sun. When exfoliating your skin be sure not to scrub hard, you may want to get the dead skin off but you do not want to hurt your good skin underneath so be sure to just lightly scrub your skin.

Here in Calgary we have one of the most exciting times of the year. It is the time of the Calgary Stampede and there are parties, free pancake breakfasts and of course a world famous rodeo that lasts right through next week.
The company that I work for had a stampede breakfast and mini rodeo on Saturday at the Calgary Stampede and I went along with my wife and two kids. We met some people there and although we brought our own lunch we did have the sausage, pancakes and hash browns for breakfast. The lunch was packed by my wife and was healthy fruit and sandwiches which were great for all of us and helped us avoid the crazy prices for food on the fairgrounds.
But this story is not about the food or the food on the grounds.
I always get excited about hanging out and playing with the kids. I am a pretty active guy when it comes to looking after the kids running behind and trying to keep up with them and that was the case on Saturday, but I did not bring any water to drink and really did not think about drinking anything. Just like anyone on a really hot day I was fine until it was a bit too late. Just before we left in mid afternoon I started feeling a little light headed and went a little downhill from there. We got in the car and went to the first 7-11 we could find to get a drink for me. After sucking back some liquids I was fine but I would bet that there were others that day that did not fare as well as me.
It is really important to drink a lot of liquids when you are active and at these times most people realize it and do get in the liquids and electrolytes that they need to keep them in peak condition. But, when you are just running around and away from home on a hot day quite often you don’t really think about the water just as I did on Saturday. If you were to go to the first aid tent at any event during the summer you should see that the majority of people are suffering from heat exhaustion or dehydration not from being active but just from drying up in the heat.
The easiest way to avoid these problems is to make sure that you drink a lot of liquids throughout the day. Mix it up drink fruit juice for the sugar, water for the pure hydration and try to keep yourself in the shade whenever possible. This time in July and August is prime time for these problems. Especially when it is really hot take care of your kids as they are not nearly as good at regulating their temperature and can get heat stroke which is an even worse problem and can require hospitalization.

Sun protection is serious business. The sun can be very dangerous especially in the summer months when the level of Ultraviolet radiation is the highest. Many of us like to get a little bit of color in the summer, getting a tan is a highlight of simmer that makes us feel healthy, look healthy and I hate to say it but the sun is actually very dangerous to us. You may have heard in the past that there is a Vitamin E release by getting sun but remember that being out in the sun going around your daily life will give you more than enough sun exposure. Sunburns are the worst as you can imagine but suntans can be bad as well.

Sunburn remedies are something that we always need to look for the day after we treat our skin badly in the sun. I just found a great list of folk remedies for when you actually do accidentally sunburn yourself. I do not know where it comes from but I thought I would pass it on with a few comments. I have tested some of these but not all. Also remember that if you have any kind of a skin rash or irritation many of these will help as well.
Aloe Vera
Take as many leaves as necessary from an aloe plant; refrigerate; peel off top layer of leaves; apply the side of the leaf with flesh exposed directly to the sunburn. Aloe is very effective in relieving pain and inflammation Other remedies use aloe vera juice: for mild to medium sunburn, keep the affected area moist with aloe vera juice. Repeat frequently. This will reduce the pain and the amount of peeling.
Combine aloe juice with the amount of vitamin E. Dab on the sunburn. Vitamin E is a good moisturizer. Aloe vera ointment works well, too, as it contains oil and will not evaporate. For a severe sunburn, keep the area moist at all times with aloe vera juice. Since aloe vera is an astringent, you may want to use aloe vera ointment or some sort of oil, such as olive or baby.
