Yesterday morning I got up and did just what Tony Robbins says, I rolled out of bed and fell into my workout clothes and just hit the road for a run.
I have been running a lot on treadmills since the spring and finally got the guts up to run on the road like I blogged about last week. I started stong for a few minutes until the dinner and movie from the night before caught up with me.
I was listening to Eminem, and Jackson Browne, and Pearl Jam and muttering under my breath

I believe just as many others do that positive thinking and written goals are something that can propel you too much greater success than just hoping for good to come. One thing that should be mentioned too more often though is the role of negative thinking in our lives.
Negative thinking to me is just looking at the bad side of a situation. Things like “If I run I might hurt myself” or “I don’t want to give up chocolate forever” or “What’s the point, I will probably fail anyway” these are very dis-empowering thoughts and they will stop you from achieving success. Really all negative thinking is is a pattern of thought. Since it is a pattern you can change it and not have it as much in your life anymore.
We have all had tough times and bad thoughts roll through our head but if you think about a time when you were excited and looked forward to a situation compared to a time where you were scared, worried and though you might fail you can remember I am sure the lack of strength and the lack of commitment that you felt. There is nothing worse and what a terrible way to go through life scared of what is coming up looking with fear at the opportunities that await. Read the rest of this entry »

One of the biggest secrets to people that achieve a lot in life is that they get the most important things done first thing in the morning before anyone has even got their first cup of coffee in them. The success happens before or just around dawn and then these world beaters move through their day as anyone else does.
If you want to get healthy by doing cardio or doing weights then the best time to do these things is before you even get going in the morning. I remember listening to Tony Robbins on a tape once say that if you want to lose weight then leave your running shoes beside oyur bed so your just roll out of bed and into them before you even get a chance to say no to the workout.
When you try to workout in the morning you will find that the tired resistance only lasts a few minutes, after you have walked for 1 minutes or ridden your exercise bike for 3 minutes you will be into it and rejoicing at the fact that you are doing something great for you that very few people ever do and that is to be successful. What a great way to start the day with a success to build on before you have even had breakfast.
After you have done your morning workout once then the habit will be starting to form, you will confident that you can do it again. Read the rest of this entry »

Goal setting is an important piece of any changes that you make in your life. Whenever you get started making changes in any way I am sure that you have found that the giddiness that you feel at the beginning feels like it will keep you going as long as it takes. After a while we all know that doubts creep in and before you know it the excitement is replaced by doubt and the things that seemed important now feel like a chore.
Well if we start every new plan by setting goals correctly we will have more than a fighting chance once the excitement fades we will have A PLAN.
Goal setting is a simple process, you decide what you want, make lists of why you want your goals as well as a list of what could stop you, make a plan decide what you will use as goal posts as you move toward the goal and finally once you reach your goal you celebrate the achievement.
Let’s try this out with a weight loss goal:
- Goal, to lose 30 pounds
- Why, to feel and be more
healthy, prove to myself I can do anything
- What could stop me, people
offering food, bad weather for workouts, tiredness
- Plan, to do cardio 3 days a
week and weights 2 days a week, to cut the size of my meals, to cut out
all sugar except for once a day, get lots of sleep to rest from the
changes and workouts
- Goal posts, lose 2 pounds
per week, 30 pounds should be lost in 15 weeks, adjust diet and
exercise as needed
- Celebrate, after finishing
this weight loss get a family picture taken with me in new clothes
This goal setting system is almost fool proof, the only thing that you should add if you can is a partner and someone that you can talk to about your progress, a spouse maybe or a personal trainer if it is a exercise goal.
Now go forward and make some goals! One more thing that I learned from listening to Tony Robbins is that when you do make a goal don’t leave the site of a goal without taking an action towards it’s attainment.
