Are there any home remedies for scabies that actually work, or do you need to use prescription medications in all cases? This article will consider the causes of scabies and the natural remedies that are available.
What Is Scabies?
Scabies is an intensely itchy skin condition caused by a tiny mite that burrows into the skin and lays its eggs. The itching is caused by our body’s allergic reaction to the mite. The first signs are small, itchy bumps or blisters, usually located on the inner area of the wrists or between the fingers or toes. Scabies is easy to recognize by the pencil-like lines that are caused by the mite passing along just under the skin.
Scabies is usually passed from one person to another by skin on skin contact. It is common in children who can pass it along during normal play. It can be caught by simply holding hands with an infected person. In adults it is sometimes transmitted during sexual activity and in that case may appear in the genital area.
Scratching the area will often break the skin and can lead to bacteria entering and causing other dermatological conditions, for example impetigo.
We can also catch scabies from dogs. The common name for scabies in dogs is mange. If you think your dog has mange, take it to the vet immediately and do not pet it until the condition has cleared.
Feline mange is not transmitted to humans, so you do not need to worry about catching scabies from cats.
Killing Scabies Mites
If think that you or your children have scabies you should see a doctor to have the diagnosis confirmed. A doctor will normally prescribe a cream which will kill the mites if used according to directions. However this medication is harsh and because it must be used all over the body, not only in the affected area, it can cause problems for people with other skin conditions such as eczema.
Keep in mind that the itching will continue for a few days even after the mites have been killed, because their bodies and waste products remain under the skin. If you see no new lines or itchy spots, that is a good sign that the mites may have been destroyed. However, keep watching and treating because any eggs that have been laid may still hatch.
Natural Remedies
The traditional Indian home remedy for scabies is to make a paste of neem oil and turmeric powder and apply it to the affected area. You can now buy prepared neem oil creams and lotions for scabies treatment.
Tea tree oil is another natural substance that has been used for scabies. You may find a lotion that combines tea tree, neem and turmeric. Tea tree oil can be harsh and should not be used undiluted on the skin.
Tea tree oil can be added to baths. Use 10-20 drops in a warm bath 2-3 times a day. This is a good preventive measure for people who may have had contact with an infected person, plus helping to treat anyone who is infected.
Chamomile lotion can ease the itching of scabies. Where scratching has damaged the skin you may want to use an anti bacterial cream or wash with anti bacterial soap.
Clothes And Other Fabrics
Unlike fleas, scabies mites do not hop. This means that they are less likely to be found in carpets and furniture. However, an infected person should always put on clean clothes after showering and change bed linen every morning or after a nap.
Do Natural Remedies Work?
Natural remedies appear to kill the mites in some cases. However, they work more slowly than the medication that the doctor will prescribe so a person will continue to itch and be infectious for longer if they use only natural remedies on a confirmed case of scabies. Home remedies for scabies may be best used as a preventive measure for other family members who are not yet showing symptoms, or where there is scabies in your child’s school class.

Thanks to the considerable awareness about weight loss generated by experts and media alike, almost all of those so-called ‘bad foods’ now have seemingly ‘good alternatives’ so that you could enjoy your favorite foods without getting fatter. So we have diet drinks to replace fizzy drinks and diet soda to replace the original sweet soda. But how healthy are these diet alternatives? In this article we shall take a closer look at that.
Take diet soda for example. It may contain fewer calories than the original soda, but they are also loaded with lots of caffeine which makes equally harmful. In case you don’t know already, caffeine is a diuretic that makes us dehydrated by flushing out all the water from our body. The more caffeine we consume, the more our body would become dehydrated. But how would you know if your body is dehydrated or not? Here are some quick symptoms to check out.
1. Fatigue: Are you always tired? Do you feel unable to concentrate on any one thing? Do you tend to feel sleepy even after sleeping for a long while? Do you feel that you lack the energy required to perform your daily chores? Believe it or not, they are all symptoms of dehydration.
2. Headaches: We all know how annoying headaches could be. But do you know why they happen? Very often, when our brain is deprived of even a little amount of water, we suffer from headaches. Keep in mind that almost two-thirds of our brain is composed of nothing but water.
3. Difficulty in passing bowels: When water gets depleted from your body, your stool gets harder and harder, consequently making it difficult for you to pass the bowels. You would notice that almost always a patient suffering from constipation is advised to drink lots of water and fruits; while water keeps the stool soft, fiber pushes the bowels so hard that you should have no difficulty passing them at all.
4. Dark-colored urine: Do you urinate less than usual? Is the color of your urine dark? This is yet another pointer to the fact that your body is dehydrated and it needs water supply. When your body’s water level is reduced to an abnormally low level, the kidneys find it difficult to flush out the toxins and other waste products properly from our body and consequently our urine becomes abnormally dark.
5. Bad breath: If you have tried high and low and are still unable to get rid of your bad breath, consider increasing your water intake. Bad breath is caused by bacteria, and water helps flush out these bacteria from your mouth, thereby ridding you of bad breath.
As you can see, diet sodas are not a good choice because they could make your kids’ body dry as hell. If you really want to control your kids” soda intake, persuade them to drink water more often.

Stretching is a great way of stopping or at least doing a large part in the prevention of sports injuries. The simple act of stretching will give you more benefits than simply cutting your risk or injury it will also help you to gain muscle, agility and coordination. I have stressed in the past that stretching is very useful but here is an article that I found that gives you even more reason to stretch everyday.
Overcoming & Preventing Sports Injury
If you’re involved in the health & fitness industry, whether it be participating in your favourite sport, coaching, training or just keeping fit, you’ll know how annoying and debilitating a sports injury can be. In reality, when you have a sports injury you’re actually losing on two fronts. Firstly, you’re losing simply because your body has been hurt and now needs time and care to repair itself. And on top of this, you’re also losing the time you could have been putting into training and improving your sporting ability. Read the rest of this entry »

It is nothing new for people to go after fad diets in the hope of quick weight loss. No matter how many times they fail you, the charm of fad diets is so irresistible that you seem to be drawn to them each time you notice an attractive claim, and the more attractive and hyped up the claim is, the better!
I am not sure if you have heard of Genie Diet before, but it seems to be the new craze among obese adults these days. The point is: if it is just like the other fad diets which preceded it, then it is not worth your time. But what if it is real? Let’s find out the truth about Genie Diet in this article.
Whenever I review a diet, I don’t take into account the testimonials on the diet manufacturer’s website: more often than not, they tend to be either “fabricated” or offered by people in lieu of some bribe. On the other hand, even if a certain diet program has a few negative reviews, I don’t make the judgment call that it is a scam product. After all, no diet program in the world would fit the ‘one-size-fits-all’ category. Every human body is set up in a unique way; so if the diet used successfully by your friend works for you as well, then thank your stars!
What really matters to me is the proportion of positive reviews to the negative ones, and going by this criterion, I think I would give the Genie Diet my assent! Why? From the reviews I have noticed at third party forums and message boards, most people seem to have gotten positive results (mind you, people aren’t given any inactive to post a positive review in public forums and message boards, so you can trust the reviews found in those places more than the testimonials you see on the product’s website) from its use!
I also make sure that a decent number of people have gotten positive results with a diet program; even though it is not possible for everyone to lose weight successfully with the same diet program, most, if not all users, should notice some positive changes in their body weight after dieting for a considerable period of time.
Going by that criterion too, Genie Diet scores a high. From what I’ve noticed in consumer forums, on an average people were able to lose anywhere between 8-10 pounds within just fourteen days, in contrast to the normal rate of two pounds per week. Now that is really what I would call a fast and effective weight loss solution!
A big advantage of the Genie Diet is that you don’t need to starve or eat boring foods for long periods of time. It is based on the concept of detox weight loss, which is why for the first few days you must not eat anything except the foods recommended by the diet program.
You should also make sure that you don’t eat too much during this period, for it is important to keep your stomach empty in order to help it flush out the undigested foods and toxins present inside. As soon as you get rid of these waste products, you are sure to lose anywhere between 8-10 pounds as stated above.
Moreover, once you detoxify your body of these toxins and waste products, it becomes easier for your body to keep your metabolic rate high and burn fat with great speed! Your overall health improves as well. As you can see, the Genie Diet is indeed a healthy weight loss program, for it not only helps you get rid of unwanted fat but also makes your body healthy!

Do you know that you can lose weight simply by eating? If someone told you that the only way to burn fat and lose weight is by following some fad diet and eating like a mouse, I would guess that he is plain ignorant. In this article I will prove that you CAN lose weight by eating the right kinds of foods in the right way!
1. A healthier alternative to diet pills: Diet pills, while helping you suppress your appetite, come with several harmful side effects; truth to be told, when you use them you lose more than gain in the bargain! Here is a healthier and more natural way to get rid of hunger: increase your fiber intake.
Natural fruits and vegetables are rich in fiber. Fiber-rich foods help keep you full for a long time so that you don’t feel hungry too often. Add to that the fact that fiber-rich foods also help in easing your bowel movement, and you would know how important they are for your health! Apart from organic vegetables and fruits, nuts and whole grains are other foods which have plenty of fiber content!
two. The good and bad drinks: If you want to quench your thirst, you can either do it by drinking lots and lots of soda or plain water. The first option would make you wider and bulkier, while the second one would help you lose weight! Here is an interesting fact about soda and soft drinks: since they are notoriously rich in sugar, they not only make you fatter but also augment your thirst and hunger, so that you are forced to drink more of them for relief!
Not so with water! Water REALY quenches your thirst, that too, with no unhealthy after-effects! Plus water also boosts your metabolic rate as well as cleanses your body of all harmful toxins and waste products, thereby making it easier for your body to burn fat and lose weight!
three. A better way to control your portions: We all know how important it is to eat in small portions for the purpose of weight loss. Here is one funny thing to note: if you put very little food on a large plate, your brain would think that you have eaten less than your requirement, even though that may not be the case. However, put that same food on a smaller plate, and you would feel completely satiated!
What was the difference between the two situations? While in first case your plate was half-empty, in the second case it was full and consequently managed to fool your brain into believing that you are ‘full’.
When I used to eat less food on large plates, I would invariably go back to my refrigerator to pick up more foods. However, ever since I have begun using smaller plates, things have changed for the better! You may or may not believe it, but this is a FACT nonetheless – in order to feel full, you not only need to satiate your stomach but also eyes!

You have probably noticed that as you age, you gain in inches and pounds even if you haven’t changed your lifestyle much. There are many reasons behind this, but usually people gain weight in old age because their metabolic rate slows down a bit at that time plus their body is not able to process calories as efficiently as it used to in youth!
Women especially gain weight soon after they have kids. I still remember how bad I felt when I delivered my twin kids. Sure, I was overjoyed over the birth of two kids but I was not at all happy about the several pounds of weight I had gained thereby. Just a look in the eyes of my friends was enough to tell me that they no longer had the same affection and interest for me as they used to have!
I knew that I needed to lose the extra fat to save my life and regain my social status and prestige! So what I did? That is what I am going to tell you in this article. I promise you that the tools I suggest here won’t cost you an arm and a leg and are at the same time highly effective tools for quick fat loss!
1. Colon cleansing: First off let me tell you that I have pretty much tested and tried all the popular diet programs such as the South Beach, Atkins, low-carb, low-fat, etc., and even the Weight Watchers program, but none of them worked for me! It was then that a friend advised me to go for colon cleansing and then try out acai berry!
So as a first step I went for colon cleansing. I was pretty much surprised to discover that I lost almost seven pounds just by flushing out all the junk and waste products deposited in my intestine! Yeah, all this without any pain or extra effort!
2. acai berry: The next thing I did was to try the popular weight loss superfood called Acai Berry. Now I would be honest with you: Acai Berry is not a magic pill which you would just pop in and lose weight instantly!
Weight loss won’t happen instantly, but Acai Berry can surely accelerate the process for you! For instance, one major advantage of Acai Berry is that it is rich in protein. Protein builds up strong lean muscles for you and muscles help you burn fat; in a way, the more muscles you have, the more fat you would burn!
Secondly, it is rich in fiber. Fiber, as you know, keeps you full for a long time. Thus in a way, Acai Berry also acts as an appetite suppressant by ridding you of constant hunger pangs!
Thirdly, it is rich in various vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, all of which would help you with weight loss! Best of all, it doesn’t come with any side effects!
I would suggest that you try out my recommended tools, as I am sure you will notice some positive changes with them!

1. Eating refined foods
Most processed breads and cereals contain little fiber, the calorie-free component of plant foods that fills you up, not out. Plus, foods rich in fiber help control blood glucose and insulin levels.
Solution: I never thought I’d say this, but it may be a good idea to cut back on potatoes in any form especially french fries. Experts say potatoes raise blood-glucose concentration quickly, as do snack chips, white bread, low-fiber breakfast cereals, and breakfast bars. Whole-grain cereals, nuts, and beans are blame-free, if not calorie-free.
2. You Lack Basic Skills in Food Prep
So you took wood shop instead of home ec. I understand–a man needs to master power tools to feel complete. But unless you find a way to make your bird feeder edible, you need to master weight-loss tools, too. A man whose only kitchen skill involves the speed dial to Domino’s is condemned to a diet of grease, salt, white bread, and sugar.
Solution: Step into the kitchen. (That’s the room with the oven, sink, and refrigerator.) Open your freezer. You should see frozen berries and vegetables, which are as good as fresh but last many times longer. Look in your cupboards. You should see some canned vegetables, hearty low-fat soups, dried fruit, and slow-cooking oats. These foods help you lose weight because they’re filling but low in calories. Best of all, you don’t need much more than a can opener and a microwave to make them edible. (Dishes are optional.) This leaves you more time for your power tools.
3. You’re Cocky
I’ve seen it many times: Guy drops 10 or 20 pounds and starts thinking he’s Joe Weight Loss. Next thing you know, he’s back to beer and pizza–and his original weight.
Solution: Remember that scene in Patton when George C. Scott refuses to pull his troops back, saying he doesn’t like to pay twice for the same real estate? Okay, you’re Patton, and every 10 pounds of fat you shed is real estate you own outright. Don’t give it back. With each 10 pounds you drop, sit down and reassess your diet and exercise program. If you calculated your food intake and exercise volume when you started, run a new set of numbers, based on your new weight and activity level.
