As I have mentioned a few times before and offered bonuses upon, there are three diet, weight loss, or health improving plans that I have reviewed. The plans are really very different from each other and I often get questions about which is the best based on a persons attitude and often which is the best of the three for me. These plans are:
Burn The Fat, Feed the Muscle

Fat Loss for Idiots

Turbulence Training

I have a lot of questions coming at me about which of these is the best and I wanted to make sure that I answered these questions before I move on to writing about any other plans and programs in the future.

Any weight loss program to me has two components, exercise and diet. Here is where the above diets sit in those categories. Read the rest of this entry »

Last year we had a great time watching Biggest Loser Couples and I think that as a season went it was really educational, entertaining and had a bit of drama that made it lots of fun to watch. Tomorrow, Tuesday September 16th the next season of Biggest Loser Families starts and I am again really excited to watch and blog about it.

This year there are eight teams of two and to add a bit of confusion there are four teams of husbands and wives and four teams of parent and child. The trainers again this year are Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper.

This year the  Biggest Loser site has a lot of info on the team members as well as a little bio and the starting weight for each participant. Also they are letting us know that the teams are split up with Bob Harper training the husband and wife teams and Jillian Michaels training the parent and child teams. Read the rest of this entry »

These days, how you look is often more important than how talented you are. Your personality and ability is determined by your body’s size and shape. No wonder then that a lot of people are gearing up to lose weight as quickly as possible. The problem is that people take the weight loss steps when it is already too late - that is, they have grown too fat!

Your diet needs to be changed

If you diet consists only of chips, junk fried foods, soda, alcohol, and fizzy drinks, how can you expect to lose weight? These foods are rich in calories and when they enter your body the calories get converted into fat and make you overweight. If you want to lose weight, it is crucial that you change your eating habits first before anything else! Read the rest of this entry »

Anne Alexander is the writer of a book called Win the Fat War. I am still trying to track her down but it looks like she is a writer for Prevention magazine. As you probably remember from last weeks Biggest Loser Couples Prevention magazine does all sorts of weight loss articles and also has great news otherwise.

Anyway Anne, If you get a chance to read this post, I have posted all of these tips that Anne Alexander wrote in a Prevention magazine article and they are fantastic. This is a list that can help anyone lose weight and gain muscle and take control of your eating and health.

Read these and comment on what you think. I will try to find an email address for Anne so we can email and thank her as well for these great tips.

Believe in Yourself

1. Ditch all-or-nothing thinking. Every time that Sandra Wadsworth, 41, attempted weight loss, she’d quit at the first slipup. “But I finally lost 20 pounds when Weight Watchers helped me see that I wasn’t a bad person. Everyone makes mistakes. The key is to learn from them.” Read the rest of this entry »

What is the Dietrine carb blocker?

As you know I am a big proponent of using a good diet and exercise to lose weight. There is no such thing as taking a pill to lose weight and even if a pill did the job I am not sure that in the end it makes you any healthier than a classic couch potato.

Most of the time we can just exercise and have a good diet and will lose weight easily that way. Sometimes this does not work though. I get emails every week from people that seem to have trouble losing weight, if they just have two pieces of bread they seem to gain weight easily the next day. I have looked around for a long time for something that would help everyone with this problem.

I have just run across a type of diet supplement known as a carb blocker.

The Dietrine Carb Blocker works with your body’s own natural processes to prevent carbs from being stored as fat. The effective ingredient works by neutralizing the alpha amylase enzyme, effectively limiting the breakdown of carbohydrates into glucose and fat, meaning that your caloric intake can be dramatically decreased, even with carbohydrate-rich foods. Well the Blue team won the weigh in last week and they got a weekend trip to las Vegas which led to some trouble lots of fun and a losing weigh in.

There were two uncomfortable times in the show last night, first there was Dan the young 21 year old with long blond hair strumming on a guitar and singing. First of all I only think of Dan as the guy that is losing weight, not as a young Bob Dylan. Anyway the trip to Las Vegas was great and was fun to watch, except first, I can’t believe Dan and Roger going out until 6 o’clock in the morning. Wow, the ranch must really be weighing on them to stay our soooo late. The trip looked like fun though. Second, I still can not believe that the guys all got tattoos. And third I was shocked that Dan did not work out at all but still lost the most out of anyone on his team. Read the rest of this entry »

I can make you thinI just found about about this show called I Can Make You Thin starting in a couple of weeks on TLC. My wife was watching LA Ink and saw a commercial. She is intrigued and I always like getting fitness tips from TV, it is nice and quick and easy to understand. I have heard of Paul McKenna before actually he is a self help guy that is popular in England and Australia but not so much in America. This show is starting on March 7 and is based on the book to the left here called I Can Make You Thin.

Maybe I should turn this blog into a TV show, or at least do some podcasting. *Note to self*, get a better video camera

Watch this show and you will lose weight - the world’s most extraordinary interactive TV show. Through the TV set, British self-help expert Paul McKenna, PhD will help viewers program their minds to lose weight. It’s not a diet, there is no will power required, no belief necessary - as you watch you will transform your relationship with food and see others do the same. This show has already been a smash hit the UK and McKenna’s system has changed the way millions of people lose weight in Europe. Now he’s coming to America!

I will let you know when I find out more.

In Canada we get a lot of stories in the news about obesity in the US and sometimes I thing that we look at ourselves as immune to the obesity issue. Of course that is not at all true and bad habits in the US are the same as the bad habits in Canada. While many people look at the magic BMI number of 30 as the divider of obese or not (I of course hate the whole BMI numbering) I found this article in the Calgary Herald newspaper here in Canada.

According to the 2004 Canadian Community Health Survey, 2.7 per cent of the population had “class III” obesity, meaning a BMI of 40 or more. But Padwal and others believe the prevalence of extreme obesity is now closer to four or five per cent, or about 1.5 million Canadians who are severely obese. Read the rest of this entry »

Weight loss is not as simple as fad diet experts would have you believe. It requires you to make enormous changes in your lifestyle, of which some are so complicated that they would drive you nuts, whereas others are so simple and small that you won’t even realize the change!

The golden rule of weight loss is that if you eat less then usual, you will be able to shed off pounds. Unfortunately, it is not as easy as it sounds, because many times people have problems keeping their mouths in check. In this article I will tell you two ways to cut down on calories and stay in shape.

1. Replace large plates with smaller ones: You may not know it, but if you eat off small plates, you will be able to cut down on your food intake by a huge degree. Here is how: if you put a small amount of food on a large plate, you will think that you are indeed eating very little food. Read the rest of this entry »

I always lose track of the episodes as the Biggest Loser season goes on. I finally got to watch last night and wow there was lots of drama. Bob kicked Jillians but in the reverse stair climbing contest. Jillian teared up as Bob picked teams and there was another wrigleys gum product placement.

Anyway they really seemed to pack a lot into this latest episode. The 8 teams are now just 2 teams. The Blue team was chosen by Bob Harper after winning a reverse escalator challenge and the black team were the four teams left over for Jillian. It seemed a little unfair the way he teams were picked. Maybe the producers of the show want Bill to win this season but we all know by now how the Biggest Loser picks a winner, based on percentage weight loss. The fatter you start the higher the percentage weight loss at the end when you are skinny. Bob of course picked the heaviest teams. Read the rest of this entry »
