This weekend my wife is out of town and I took the kids for a bit of a chilly visit to the park. While we were at the park I noticed that one of the slides has disappeared and I asked my daughter why?
“They were worried that we might fall off of it” she told me.
That got me thinking about kids and a lack of limits that they seem to have. Kids aren’t smart enough to protect themselves sometimes. Still maybe we could learn a bit from the young ones.
Don’t set limits
Kids are great in that they don’t set any limits for themselves. Anyone that has rescued a kids from a tree or cringed as they watched their kids climb the monkey bars knows this. Maybe we as well should not live by our self imposed limits of strength, comfort and health.
Don’t be in love with one thing
Watch kids at parks, they will start with a slide or the monkey bars and will quickly move on to other things, don’t get me wrong the kids love all of the toys but at the same time they always want to try every single thing at a new park. why don’t you try a new sport or a new recipe today?
Don’t worry about the weather
My kids have told me for weeks now that they want to go to the park but it has been far too cold until today to sneak out to the park across the street, today we did that trek (bundled up of course). The kids don’t worry about getting cold, they don’t care about getting wet, they don’t care about the rain they just want to play. How often do we look at the clouds before going out for a run and decide “Well maybe it will storm and I wouldn’t want to have this cold get any worse”.
Go out anyway.
