How do you stick to a fitness routine, let alone a diet plan, this time of year, staying healthy this summer?

Summer is often a time when people are on the go — be it to ball games, parties, barbecues or on vacation. That can lead to no time for exercise, much less cooking.  In short avoiding staying healthy this summer.

Great Tips for Staying healthy this summer

Here are some tips for “fitting” it all in and making the best of staying healthy this summer and appreciating everything that summer has to offer.

Be an early bird – If you exercise first thing in the morning, you won’t have to worry about squeezing it in later or something else taking priority. Morning workouts rev up your metabolism, giving you an early calorie-burning boost that continues all day.

Make fitness funSummer is a great time for family bike rides, to start walking with a friend or to start playing a sport. It’s also a great time to try a fun outdoor activity like kayaking, canoeing, inline skating, hiking or swimming. In other words, head out of the gym and break up that “same old, same old” exercise routine.

Carry a water bottleIt’s important to stay hydrated when trying to lose because it helps keep your metabolism pumping. If you always have a water bottle within reach, you’re more likely to drink. Plus, if you’re exercising in the heat, water is important for avoiding dehydration. Keep yourself hydrated & healthy by carrying a Crystal Water Bottle this summer.

Grill outIt’s much easier to cook large quantities of food on a grill than in your oven. Fire up the grill on the weekend and cook for several days at once, cutting back on the amount of meal prep time you’ll need on those busy weekdays. Chicken, potatoes and veggies are great on the grill. And what better time than to try my yummy turkey burgers? Check out the recipe on my website, www.got2workout.com

Be aware – Some popular party food favorites — like coleslaw, potato salad and hamburgers — are loaded with so much fat and so many calories they make my eyeballs pop out of my head when I read the nutrition labels. Be safe and be smart. Either make your own low-fat version or bring your own food to the party. You also can eat before you go. No one is going to hold a gun to your head and make you eat their food, I hope.

Pack a cooler – When someone plans to go on vacation they pack a suitcase with clothes, toiletries and all those other required necessities, right? So, pack up some healthy food and drinks when you are on the go. These are some foods I typically pack: salad, chicken, turkey burgers, yogurt, string cheese, almonds, Kashi bars, protein shakes, protein pancakes and lots of water.

Don’t go anywhere without a cooler, it’s one of the biggest keys to staying slim this summer. Plus, it will save you time and money down the road. Who can argue with that?
