X-Weighted is a TV show that is shown on the life network here in Canada. The idea of X-Weighted is that the story of regular people losing weight would be interesting to watch and in fact it is.

The host of X-weighted is a trainer from Edmonton by the name of Paul Plakas. Paul is a great host for a weight loss show because he goes into peoples houses and is not afraid of offending them with his tips and is really great for giving workout ideas.

Also, as a Canadian Paul is never an ass but he doesn’t give anyone much of a chance to make any excuses either.

I watched X-Weighted a couple of times last season but earlier this week was a standard episode that I thought was great to watch especially for the lack of hype that this show uses to bring across the idea of weight loss over a longer period of time.

The structure of X-Weighted is that you will have an intro where you see the life situation of someone that wants to lose weight, then Paul Plakas measures and weighs the person, looks in their kitchen and does a fitness assessment. Using supplements for his body hes able to overcome some barriers others can’t.

Later in the show you have workouts and a midpoint weight in and finally at the end there is an official X-Weighted final weigh in. Great drama and great info all in an hour

Anatomy of an X Weighted Episode

The X-Weighted episode that I saw started with Michelle, a lady that was over weight and would like to lose 50 pounds.

She had problems with one of her three children being Autistic and becoming a problem and her whole family leaned on her for support in various parts of their lives.

Because of Michelle’s work schedule and early mornings she would eat out at fast food places once or twice EVERY day. Now we know this ladies background.

First things first for the meeting with her trainer. Michelle laid out her situation and then told Paul that she wanted to lose 50 pounds in the next six months.

Her trainer talked to her about her exercise requirements, eating requirements, tested her current level of fitness and then followed her around for a day. A couple of day later Michelle met with her trainer for a training session and then we get to see how Michelle reacts over the next few months to life, changes and loss.

In the end Michelle lost I believe 44 pounds and was really happy with how things went for her  weight loss. Her life was a series of traumatic events over the time of her weight loss and it really makes you feel for her and her family.

X-Weighted is a great show in that it really walks you through how real people lose weight while living their regular lives, this is a classic idea of a reality show where the people are in their own surrounding much like our own and every great result is hard fought.

X-Weighted is on in Canada on many nights of the week on the Slice Network (formerly the Life Network).

  1. Hello, I look at the casting calls and I noticed that you need to be near vancover. Well I am in St.John’s Newfoundland and I can guarantee you one hell of a loss show if you come here! My father has had a heart attack a few years ago now and he is gaining some serious back again. I would like to get him back on track. My mother is feeling more pain in her joints and I would like her to realize the power exercise has to offer. My husband has every growing health problems due to his and I would like him to change his ways before they get worse! Then there is me… I have lost 32lbs so far and still have about 60 to go. I can guarantee you if you want to see someone work hard for 6 months to lose the it will be ME! Common take my challenge!! Bring it to Newfoundland and show me what you got!!!

  2. Not sure if I’m in the right place but who do I contact to become a contestant on X-ed and have the privilege to meet the man Paul Plakas?
My name is Tammy I’m a single mother of two beautiful children who are not over . I have been fighting with my problems for 15 years. Mind you, over the years I have broken the 200 mark a few times but only due to stress. The stress of losing my father 3 years ago and having to leave my husband. Today I still struggle of not having the ability to be active with my children. My daughter always tell me I can do it but it seems like a let down to her cause I can’t keep up due to my . Both my children are very active and it’s frustrating not having to participate in their activities. I have the confidence to do the workouts and watch what I eat, but I need the motivation. I’m a high risk of diabetes. I was diagnose with gestational diabetes during my pregnancy, and had to take 4 needles per day through out the pregnancy. My family doctor tells me in order to be out of the high risk of diabetes I have to lose 50lbs or more. My current is 215 lbs at 5’4 in height. I need Someone “to not” take any crap or excuses from me. I need the motivator of Paul Plakas.. Hear my cry out for HELP!!! Thank you for taking the time hearing my plead Tammy.

  3. Hi. I just wanted to say that I really enjoy watching your show. It’s very inspiring and eye-opening. I used to weigh 240lbs. And then, with a bit of help from watching your show I started to realize that I wasn’t fully content with my and what I needed to do to change that. So without furter ado, I started my journey to weigh less and to be healthy. I started diets before but then ended them quite quickly. Then in July of this year I just thought enough is enough, I want to look and feel good. So now it’s about 4 months later in November and I weigh approx. 186lbs. Wow! I feel and look good! However, I have been hovering over 186-192lbs. back and forth for about a month now. I have shown such determination to shed the and now I think I hit the Plateau. Please any suggestions you may have would help. Thanks.

  9. Hi! I’m 5’6 and weigh 166pds. I was under all my life up until I had children. My doctor told me I was a high risk pregnancy because of being under . Well I ate and ate and ate some more.At 2 months pregrant I weighed 112pds at full term I was 181pds. My son was 6pds 13 oz. That was 12 years ago and I struggled ever since. Tried watchers, atkins, south beach diet and was even on a fat flusher. I need help to get on the right track again could you please help. My self esteem is down, and so is my metabolism but not my . Is there anything I can do to regulate my ? Ideally it would be nice to get down to 130pds as I have a small boned frame.Thank you in advance.

  10. I had the “perfect body ” before I had my son nine months ago. I am 5″6 5″7 and I used to weigh, I 140lbs. Now I am 190lbs, and I can’t get rid of it!! I hate the way that I look. I feel very uncomfortable wearing ANYTHING that shows my waist and exspecially my legs. I could REALLY use your help !!!!

  11. I love the show. My sister and I have always have problems with being over. She actually had her stomach stapled a few years back but the has since then crept on. I have been a yo yo dieter all my life but I am at a point in my life at 53 where drastic changes have to be made. I recently had two sons married and want to be here for when grandchildren come along. I have recently lost but really need to integrate excercise and nutrition into the factor. Health wise I am not so good, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholestorol and in the past year and a half have had 2 heart attacks and three angioplasty’s. The last trip scared the hell of out of me when I had A Fib and had to be zapped back to regular rythum then finding out I had another blockage. On top of that I have the problem of leg cramps and feet going to sleep. I have been told by specialists that I also have hardening in the arteries of the legs. It really limits me to what I can do, I want to do so much more. Apparently it can’t hurt me, to stop when it hurts and carry on. i am so badly out of shape I really don’t know where to begin without some kind of trainer. My sister would like to come on the journey with me. I am only 5’3″ and 170 lbs. It makes me angry when i see much larger people being able to walk a block and do things. This show is my last hope. Paul you could be my life saver and I could be your challenge.

  12. Hi Paul, I’m hooked on your show, I think you are a great trainer. I need your help, I’m 54 years old, 5″3 and I weigh 154 lbs. My doctor told me to lose 25 pounds. There is major heart disease in my family, so I have always been active. I have weigh 154 lbs for the last year. I go to the gym 4times a week, Zumba dance class 3 times a week, water aerobics 5 days a week. I’m allergic to chicken and turkey. I do eat fish, beef, pork and some times fast food. With all my exercising, how many calories should I be taking in a day? I would love to be on the show, I have watched some episode that had women who were fitness trainer, that needed to lose 50 pounds and more. I am a 3 degee black belt in Taekwondo, I have not been able to find a studio in my area to practice, I could really use your help to get back in shape. Thank you,

  15. How I love your show…but….Is there still hope for me? I’m 62 yrs old, have a burning desire to feel good about myself again, have no help or support and think I’m not worthy of good things…Is there anyone out there who could help me, really help me? My world fell apart 4 yrs. ago and I lost 50 lbs…that was only because I basically quit eating…I have now put it back on and am so very misreable with myself..I have kept all my beautiful “thin” clothes but they seem to torture me rather than help…I want to do all the right things but I’m so alone in this battle…If I just had a Paul to work with….Love to you all, nan

  16. Hey
I dont know if this is the place I’m looking for or not so here goes.
I am a 45 year old male who had a kidney transplant on Mar 25 2009. Before surgery I was 193lbs and feeling good. Since the surgery I have gained 30 plus pounds and now my blood pressure has gone up and even with medication it wont come down. I am scared that if I dont loose this extra that I might loose my new kidney. I have gone my whole life with kidney disease and finally feel awesome. I have never in my life felt so good. Unfortunately I dont have any motivation to really get going and loose this weght. I know the fact that I can loose my kidney should motivate me, unforunately in my house there is no disapline on junk food or any food for for that fact. If we want to eat it we eat it. I could really use some help to get on track. If there is anyway XWeighted can help please help me. send me an email and I will give you any information you need to help me.

    Thaning you in advance
    David James
