A lot of people choose to walk or jog as a form of exercise to help them lose and tone their body. For those who prefer to work out in the privacy of their own home, a treadmill makes an excellent choice. Treadmills are basically “moving sidewalks” that allow the user to walk or run at their own desired pace indoors.

You can find treadmills in most gyms, or you can purchase your own and use it at home if you choose. Anyone can achieve great results by using a treadmill if they know how to use it properly. You can tone your muscles and get better lung function just by walking or jogging on a treadmill daily. Good treadmills allow you to adjust the speed and tension of the walk so you can adapt and increase the challenge as time goes on.

If you’re just starting out with a treadmill workout, keep a log of your progress. You’ll be amazed at how quickly you can go from doing a mile or two in several minutes, to a mile or two in just a couple of quick minutes. A plus to using a treadmill is that you can continue to work out even in bad weather. If it’s raining or snowing outside, you can still work out indoors on the treadmill.

Use headphones and listen to music to help keep you focused, or you can even watch TV if you happen to have one in the same room. Doing this will help keep your mind off of the fact that you’re exercising, and before you know it you’ve walked several miles.

Be sure to use good athletic walking or running shoes when using a treadmill just as if you were walking outdoors. Good shoes will protect your joints from wear and tear and damage. As you increase the speed and distance on your treadmill, you’ll begin to notice a trimmer waist line as well as increased muscle mass. Use some hand weightsfor an added workout for the arms.

It’s good to try and work out for at least 45 minutes per day, and at least five days per week in order to see results. Once you make it part of your daily routine, you will find that treadmill workouts are fun and easy to do. Look for some tips and tricks to working out on the treadmill online or in fitness magazines. You can incorporate several different methods to working out including a walk-run combination that keeps the heart pumping.
