I have mentioned on this blog many times that I take vitamins and that I recommend people to take vitamins. The problems is that vitamin and other pills are usually not a magic bullet to losing but people often treat them like they are. As we all should remember supplements are an addition not a core of our diet, health and fitness programs
Now I just ran into Lipovox. Lipovox is supposed to be some kind of wonder pill as it contains all sorts of superfoods that are great for you. The list of what is has includes Green Tea, DMAE,
Alpha Lipoic Acid, Cayenne Pepper, Wheatgrass Extract, Flaxseed Oil, Alfalfa, Salmon Oil, Soybean, Buckwheat, Lactobacillus Acidophillus, Garlic Extract.
We all know how good each of these things are for us, in fact all of the antioxoidants and Omega Vitamins in this seem like they would make for a fantastic supplement but I hate the idea.
Why would I hate a pill that has all the good things?
Well first of all this pill just smacks of shrewd vacant marketing. They have tried to put in everything that is good for you. If this is really supposed to be good for you why would they try to pile on with so mnay things with so little info on why each is good. This leads of course to the second and even more troubling aspect of the superfoods superpill.
How can a microscopic amount of food do any good? We know that wheatgrass is good so you have a drink of wheatgrass not a little thimbleful. When you have flaxseed oil or alfalfa it is the same, you will take a pill of only that supplement not just a tiny amount.
There is a whole industry behind superfoods and a whole industry behind supplements, actually I should post a bit about how easy it is to create a supplement sometime in the future that is an interesting post in itself.
In closing I would like to say that i hate this new era of selling us health in a pill. I like the idea of supplements but they are not the answer to obesity or even a key to better health they are only a small part in the bigger picture where exercise and diet and rest are the keys to a healthy lifestyle. Do not think that a pill is going to be the answer to getting healthy from a non-healthy lifestyle.
