How can you spend just 20 minutes and improve your week and life at the same time? Well the best way to have a great week is to do a little pre-planning.
I used to think that I was alone in the fact that I had no particular plan and that I would just go through the week bouncing from one thing to another not having any traction or plan, boy was I wrong.
In fact very few people do any kind of planning but most people have probably heard that a weekly plan is a good thing. Here is what you can do.
Sit down on Sunday night with a calendar of the week and start to just put the following things in there.
1. What do you have planned for the day? Probably work, appointments, maybe some meetings. Write these down.
2. What do you have planned in the evenings? Kids soccer, going out with the guys, dinner with your spouse. Write this down as well
3. What plans do you have next weekend? Any trips planned?
OK, now that your schedule has those immovable objects you will likely see lots of time free. Start to fill this up with your goals. What is it that you would like to achieve? If you have done any kind of goal setting in the past and it has flopped then try now to get better by putting those next steps in there for a few.
That is it. Now you will be able to put this calendar on the fridge and you have time put in there that no one can touch. As you start to get a few things completed you will find that your schedule becomes a great time management tool to fix what is wrong in your days and give you that great feeling of success.
One of the problems that you will probably feel sometimes is the overwhelm that you are trying to get too much done. As you do your planning next week you need to take this into account. Did your kids need more time with you, your wife, just time by yourself?
After a few weeks of this planning you are going to find some freat things, you will have a better feel for what you really want to accomplish, you will have a happier home life, and you will be in a far better place with your procrastination.
