This weekend I was feeling a bit bloated. I eat oatmeal with seeds for breakfast and I have broken one of my rules. Portion control. If you eat too much oatmeal it will bloat you and this is apparently what happened to me.
So this weekend I tried something deifferent, I gave myself a kind of Juice cleanse.
I say a kind of because I did not just dink juice all weekend but instead I drank a carrot, apple, ginger juice mixture for the day from morning until dinner and then had a regular dinner on both Saturday and Sunday.
It made a huge difference.
How did I Make My Juice?
First of all the juicing. I have a Big Boss juicer so I just had to go to the grocery store and buy the veggies on both Saturday and Sunday mornings (next time I will just get it all on Friday night). Actually the amounts were pretty cheap
- 2 Pounds of Carrots $2.00
- 5 Large Apples $3.00
- 1 Large piece of Ginger $1.00
And you can see how much these blended into.
Not bad and I have to admit I am a big eater so the fact that this is enough for me means that it should be good for most people
At the start of the day on both days I would spend some time washing and juicing all the veggies.
It took about 20 minutes or so and I ended up making a lot of juice.
How Was My Weekend Juicing Experience?
During the day I was alternating drinking a large glass of water and then a glass of the juice.
Since the juice is apples and carrots it is sweet and tasted really good. I just figured that I would be drinking this way from 10:00 to start until about 5:30 in the afternoon and then I ate my little dinner.
On Saturday night we had home made pita pizzas that we made from scratch.
Sunday dinner we had green salad with feta cheese, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries, and sliced almonds.
Yummy good for me dinners after a day of taking care of my body.
I have to admit that Saturday was easy and Sunday was not as easy. I had no tough workouts but instead did lots of walking with dogs, hanging out with the kids, and just enjoying quiet Winter days.
I have to admit I really enjoyed it and I felt great doing this. I got rid of any cramping that my oatmeal had been causing and the quiet and walking, and some meditation made my focus better and drained away the stress of the first few weeks of the year.
I started the weekend on Friday night with all sorts of aches and pains and not feeling great but I ended up on Sunday night looking forward to this week having gratitude for the weekend that I had.
The quiet, the cleaning of my body, and the time together with my kids really made my appreciate all the greatness around me.
