OK this is a subject that every smoker knows and no non smoker could ever understand. The idea and the feeling of a nic fit. Nicotine fits are a feeling that comes over a smoker when they have gone to long without a cigarette. What are the feelings? A racing of the heart, a compulsive feeling of waiting for a cigarette, a tenseness of the entire body and finally a discomfort that there is something missing and craving that cigarette that just will not go away.

Stopping Nic Fits

Nicotine fits are caused actually by the body noticing a drop in the nicotine level in the blood. This will start to occur probably within a couple of hours after a cigarette is last smoked but is of course your first nic fit after quitting smoking seems to happen almost immediately.

So not that we know what a nicotine craving is about and the feelings that it causes how can we be careful not to fall for the nic fit what we quit smoking? I think there are five things that will help you while you are trying to quit.

Change your schedule. When you change your schedule completely your body will be off balance and will not know exactly when to look for those cigarettes. This means have breakfast before your shower in the morning. Skip going for lunch, go out in the evening instead of staying home. Anything that will change things up is great.

Drink lots of water. Drinking water will get the nicotine out of your system more quickly but will also help you by keeping you hydrated which will also keep your energy up.

Keep your hands busy. If you keep your hands bust your body will be faked into thinking that the cigarette is in your hands and will not be so tense. Have you ever noticed that your nic fit ends just before you take that first drag? Your body knows what to expect so it is OK to wait a bit

Ride it out. A nicotine fit will only last a few minutes at most so if you can get some kind of relaxation in or walk around the block you will be better able to turn your mind away from the compulsion of the cigarettes.

Chew carrots or celery. The crispness of these two vegetables is something that will really help as you fight off your cravings. Go out and get a big bag of carrots and keep them everywhere and once you are tired of the carrots go and get some celery and do it again.

Don’t worry the nic fits that you feel for the first few days will go away quickly and you will be left with a great feeling of satisfaction in knowing that you can kick the habit. Good luck to you.

Jason, you are the one who needs to google nicotine. He is correct. I am a medical doctor and I can tell you, yes nicotine is poisonous in very high doses but so is caffeine. It is the tar and numerous other chemicals in cigarettes that cause cancer. Nicotine in doses allowed is no more harmful then caffeine. Propylene glycol is also used in vaporizers…not just electronic cigarettes but asthma inhalers. That should tell you something.

Are there any studies done regarding children frequently exposed to cigarette smoke having nicotine fits? I am a preschool teacher. There is a 3yr old in my class whose mother smokes every time she has him in the car and there are three smokers in his home, who all smoke in the house. His behavior is out of control much of the time and after 15 yrs of teaching, i find i am at aloss with him. Grasping at straws, but I was wondering if he could be having nic fits.

Nicotine itself is no more harmful a substance than caffeine. It is the method of delivery (smoking tobacco) which is harmful. Nicotine is not good for you and yes it is very addictive but take away the part where you are inhaling vapors from burned tobacco leaves and all of the chemicals that produces and you are left with a very mild stimulant (nicotine). I am in the process of quitting and as of now it has been 24 hours. I am having terrible Nic fits but I just think about how horrible I always felt smoking and everything bad about it and I tell myself that I will never smoke another cig in my life. so far it has worked.

You couldnt be more wrong. Nicotine is a very poisonous drug. I recommend you google the subjects you speak of before trying to make everyone as ignorant as yourself.

I love my electronic cigarette. I purchased it about 3 months ago from vaporking.org and have become completely free from tobacco. It satisfies my nicotine cravings and the physical addiction I have to actually smoking.

The reason the article didn’t mention nicotine patches,e-cigs, or anything else that delivers nicotine is because they keep you hooked and studies have shown them to be inneffective in the longrun. Do yourself a favor and just cut down slowly until it gets to the point where you are barely smoking anymore and just quit. I’m doing it right now and it’s a long process but it’s working. If you have the willpower go cold turkey. That way you won’t prolong the suffering.
