how to lose 10 pounds

There is no real way around this. To lose 10 pounds you need to burn 35000 calories

more than you take in.

The math doesn’t lie and you can’t lie to a scale either.

2. Most of our body is water and because of this, there is water retention.

Your body combats what is throwing off electrolytes or stress or other factors and it will naturally retain water.

3. Fat is high in calories. High water foods are low in calories. In order to change that input-output ratio, you need to raise the amount of low-calorie density foods and lower the amount of high caloric density foods.

So eat less red meat and fatty deep fried food and eat more fruits and veggies which are high in water content and nutrients.

4. All Weight loss comes with a reason. What is the reason that you want to lose the weight?

When you are hungry and drive by a McDonalds or KFC and just want to do drive-thru what is going to stop you? Certainly not losing weight.

Pulling this all together

So how do you pull all of this together? how can you lose 10 pounds?

  • When you want to know how to lose weight it comes down to planning.
  • Plan to drink a lot more water, it will make you pee more often but will also clean you out and give you move energy.
  • You also have to get more exercise and by exercise, I mean try to get one hour of exercise of any kind in a day.
  • This needs to be an exercise that you like and not exercise that just feels like work as that will not be sustainable.
  • As far as eating goes you will need to get back to those core eating habits of eating fruit and vegetables and reducing the amount of heavy carbs like rice and potatoes and make sure to eat often.
  • Eating smaller meals more often will keep that metabolism up for you.

I don't eat any differently and I eat healthily. I drink a lot of water every day. I dont know if it is muscle I am gaining or if it is fat, because my waist was 23 inches and now it is 25. Help please ๐Ÿ™

    1. You are just where you should be. As you get older your body fills out, your not a little girl anymore. Your right now is perfect for you, don’t change it!

  4. i am 5 feet seven inches and weigh 120.I want to weigh 110 and get rid of my ffat hips and thighs. I need sometips. I am a vegetarian so why can’ti lose the .

    1. Please tell me why so many people on this site want to be uber unhealthy skinny? No wonder there are so many girls/women with eating disorders!

  5. I’m 29, 5 Feet short. I weigh 133 and I’m not happy, my clothes are tight and I dont feel comfortable. I’ve always been skinny and this is making me very depressed. I need to lose 10 pounds or even more. I’ve been working out for a month now (4 to 5 days a week) and eating very good. Drink up to 8 glasses of water a day. I have just stopped eating pasta and today I decided to not drink Soda for a week or so and see if this helps. I’m not seeing a change in my clothes or the scale yet. Dont know if I’m doing anything wrong. Or if I need to start doing something else and just give it time.

    1. Oh, my goodness, Jessica! I feel like I am reading a post by myself! I wish I could have advice, but honestly I am just writing to say that I can empathize with you. I am also 5’0, and the scales fluctuate at different times of day and different times of the week between 128 in the morning and on up to 133 sometimes–especially at night. I have started training for a half-marathon, and something I’ve noticed is that my body is looking and feeling better (clothes even feel more loose), but the scales won’t budge with me, either. You know what I am wondering? You didn’t specify this either way, but I am wondering if doing the same exercise over and over just becomes the “norm” for our bodies. I’ve consistently heard two things that I am bad about doing: change up the workout or intensity and do at least days’ worth of strength training. Good luck!

      1. The key to a healthy and keeping it is training “THE RIGHT WAY” . Muscle takes up less room than fat. I wear a size 6 and weigh 160 and 5’7”, because muscle weighs more and takes up less room. Doing the same excersise day after day, your body becomes conformed to it. You have to switch it up from time to time. Do the eliptical for 30 min 3 times a week alternating intensity, then do a light jog 2 times a week but run in bursts of speed to increase your calorie burn. You have to be at the gym for at least 2 hours doing 1+ hours of training to see any type of results and definition. Weighing yourself everyday is more discouraging than you think. Weigh yourself on a monday morning on an empty stomach and right after you use the bathroom. The do not weigh again for 2 weeks. Also eating after 6pm is damaging. Once you eat dinner, drink only water and eat nothing. That way your body is forced to feed off of fat while you sleep. This has all worked for me and I wish yall the best and hope it works for you too!

    2. Jessica,

There are many things that you need to evaluate. You may be losing fat, but not . Good way to determine loss is by taking measurements before starting.

During your workouts are you doing Cardio or strength training? You also need to switch your workout up every 2-3 weeks. Your body is VERY smart. To get maximum results you have to change it up. You will need to be burning at least 500calories during your workouts.

Another aspect would be food. It is not all about cutting out pastas and rice. Quantity plays a huge roll in loss. Protein consumption burns very lean, suggest making sure you are reaching your DV of protein. Also, it is very hard to stay motivated where there are so many temptations. I suggest cutting out SODA (even diet) for the time being. Eatting healthy meals (ex. 6oz chicken breast, Cup of vegis, 1/2 cup brown rice) . Track all you calories you eat. I use myfitnesspal.com, its free and it keeps you honest on what you are eatting. To loose you MUST have a calorie deficit, if your BMR is only 1400calories and you burn 500 a day during a workout; you may consume 1900calories and remain at the same . Anything under 1900 would be a deficit. 500calorie deficit a day = 1 pound a week.
      DO NOT CHEAT on foods!

      Stay motivated! Hope this helps.

  6. ask your docto onyour next visit or find an online BMI. Thay usually work. Or you can find out yourself from studying the old fashioned way. I am a preteen and I’m 5 foot 5 and a half and weigh 150lbs. I look Okay but I found out tHAT I had to lose at least 5 or 10 lbs.

  7. What’s with all the young people who weigh nothing wanting to lose ? I’m 26, 6′ tall and weigh 195 lbs. I would like to weigh 180 lbs. MAYBE 175… i don’t wanna be just skin and bones.

    1. Wow Seth, I FINALLY see a comment here that does not sound crazy! As Im going thru the comments trying to find a REASONABLE person trying to lose serious or some additional advice tips, instead Im reading all these “babies” still undergoing a growth process talking about losing at 18 and under! Here I am at 29 years of age with 195lbs but still embracing the extra curves I have gained. I want to lose to simply be healthy (my goal is 140) but w/o losing my curves.
I WISH these young girls here would realize that being under 18 and with a of 125 or even 130 and a height of 5.4″ is NOT fat! Unless you love the ‘skin and bones’ look then I suggest to just eat healthy and EMBRACE ur natural curves! SMH!

    1. I am way younger then you (I am a preteen) and I’m 5 foot 5 and a half and weigh 150! I look super lean but my doc says I have to lose at least 5 or 10 lbs.

      1. i cant believe your dr is telling a preteen to lose … i am a mom and i feel that you are fine… talk to your mom…see what she thinks about what the dr said to you…

    1. Hey olivia. I dont think you NEED to lose any . According to “statistics” your is proportional to your height. Your BMI (body mass index) is 21.6. So you are okay on . Normal = 18.5โ€“24.9 and you are within that range. So if you are only 13yrs old, im sure you are still in school. So just work out regularly or when ever you have P.E. or whatever. You are young, so your metabolism should be working properly. I have added a link to so hopefully you will find some good info there. Good luck! http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/

  8. I think that the most important thing is to feel good in your body. you may think it’s clichรฉ, but it’s true. A diet is difficult most of the times, and while we’re dieting, we find ourselves tempted by many things. When the diet’s over, we gain the fat that we lost because we eat that junk food and sweets. So when you decide that you really WANT to lose , find some long-term diet and stick to it.

  9. Well, me i’m 11 and I weigh 54. So, there is nothing for you to worry about. Because this morning i did a little test. Its a math. But its too long for me to write, so just dont worry. You are not over. You are marginary. That means you must lose some . Not much! Just make sure you do not reach 55-58. When you reach 50 or less that means your an average . If you are less than 40 that means you are under . If u reach 60 that means you are superior/super overweigth!

    1. OMG! OMFG! You are not fat. You are super fat. Come on! That is so not healthy. Me im 11 and weigh 54. And that is called fat. What do you eat?

      1. I would like to add that Emily is 71 POUNDS (32 kilos) which is quite small. You are both children and should not be concerned about losing , just be healthy and have fun! Go play outside or read a book ๐Ÿ™‚ Trust me, you’ll be worrying about your for years, for now just be a kid!

      2. dude u need 2 stp being rude emily is perfectly fine u i dunn u need to gain i mean 54 u might as well never eat again O and next time watch wat ur saying 2 other people and worry bout urself now if ur reading this turn off the computer and go eat some ice cream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2. Emily,
Please ignore the previous remark from Shamira. She has no idea what fat is and being only 11 she is not educated on diet and nutrition to know that to determine if someone is over you must know height and . Shamira could be a very short girl, you may be very tall for your age. The taller you are the more you will weigh, because of bones and muscle, not fat. At any rate, what she said to you was wrong and mean. You are still growing. The best advice I can give to you is to make sure you drink plenty of water, eat lots of veggies, fruit, and protein like baked chicken, fish, or pork tenderloin. Excerise everyday, do not just sit in front of a screen playing video games or watching TV. Enjoy your young life! Join a team, play sports, go walking or running with your parents. Do not let what Shamira said to you hurt you or make you feel bad about yourself. She has no idea what she is talking about. Good luck to you!!! Have a happy and healthy life because YOU deserve it!! And study hard too!!! You can do it!

      1. Shamira, you should not be advising anyone about when you clearly can’t even tell between metric and imperial. Weight isn’t determined solely by age but by height and physical structure. My sister and I are the exact same height, 3 years apart – she 10 lbs more than I do and is a size smaller when it comes to pants.
Muscles weigh more than fat so, although I weigh less I have wider hips. Our bodies are completely different shapes and my sister doesn’t carry one ounce of fat on hers – yet she’s heavier.
Instead of acting like you know everything, go study and play outside. Until you’re all grown up and have good sensible advice to give, stop trying to sound like you’re some kind of specialist.
Self-image issues can be very serious and you aren’t being helpful when you tell a kid 71 lbs is too much.

  10. Yes, you need to drink water. The most amazing thing about our body is that it is extremely smart. If it knows we are not getting enough water, then it will retain it in our body, which we will not get rid of it. We need to drink enough water so we naturally cleanse ourselves. In addition, eating all those white based carb’s actually make you retain water too, so do your best to stick with whole grain products that have enough fiber.
    Thanks,
    Kisar

  11. I have been excersizing faithfully, 3/4 hour every morning, drinking lts of water, eating lots of salads and not much in the way of starches or carbs, but have yet to lose a pound. I have actually gain a pound a day this week alone. What am I doing wrong?? Help

    1. You will lose it.. may be ur food intake is more than ur workout. Depends on what kind of a workout you are doing… try something which involves more of your legs ( big muscles helps burn more calories) and do something which is hard and actually work up a sweat. If you have to walk, walk up an incline without using any sort of arm support. Hope this helps.

  12. hey guys i think this dieting and stuff is pure crap……….if you want to loose without much prolems try yoga…..wheen i say yoga i dont mean all those fancy stuff like hot yoga or power yoga…….everyone knows yoga is indian but they dont know which yoga do millions of indians follow nowadays …there is this yoga guru called baba ramdev his yoga is very simple totally free of cost and you can do it at home……..no excessive dieting(although avoid butter, deep fried stuff, soda etc) and all this fancy fitness plans………here is the link
