How to lose 10 Pounds? Often people are not really overweight but instead are just looking at how to lose 10 pounds that have been hanging around for a few weeks or even a few years that they do not know how to get rid of. Well I have a few ideas on how to lose 10 pounds now and fast that should get you on the right track.
How to Lose 10 Pounds
1. When trying to lose weight it comes down to energy in and energy out. There is no real way around this. To lose 10 pounds you need to burn 35000 calories more than you take in. The math doesn’t lie and you can’t lie to a scale either.
2. Most of our body is water and because of this there is water retention. Your body combats what is throwing off electrolytes or stress or other factors and it will naturally retain water.
3. Fat is high in calories. High water foods are low in calories. In order to change that input output ratio you need to raise the amount of low calorie density foods and lower the amount of high caloric density foods. so eat less red meat and fatty deep fried food and eat more fruits and veggies which are high in water content and nutrients.
4. All weight loss comes with a reason. What is the reason that you want to lose the weight? When you are hungry and drive by a McDonalds or KFC and just want to do drive thru what is going to stop you? Certainly not losing weight.
How to Lose 10 Pounds – Pulling this all together
So how do you pull all of this together? how to lose 10 pounds?
When you want to know how to lose weight it comes down to planning. Plan to drink a lot more water, it will make you pee more often but will also clean you out and give you move energy. You also have to get more exercise and by exercise I mean try to get one hour of exercise of any kind in a day. This needs to be exercise that you like and not exercise that just feels like work as that will not be sustainable.
As far as eating goes you will need to get back to those core eating habits of eating fruit and vegetables and reducing the amount of heavy carbs like rice and potatoes and make sure to eat often. Eating smaller meals more often will keep that metabolism up for you.
How to Lose 10 Pounds – Here are more Lose 10 pounds tips
- Eat all your food in 5 or 6 meals a day instead of three
- Cut back on your White carbs (rice, potatoes, pasta) and substitute with vegetables, which are higher in water and nutrients anyway

- Drink water from morning until night to stave off those urges to eat more food and to keep your metabolism up
- Eat all your food in those 5 or 6 meals before 7:30 at night so that you are not going to sleep on a full stomach
Finally if you want to know the real secret of how to lose 10 pounds you need to worry about why you are trying to lose weight. How do you lose you’re jiggley legs?
I am a 16 year old and I weigh 160 pounds.. I dont look like I weigh 160 but I do. My parents said that I just have a lot of muscles. But I dont like my legs and I dont know how to loose weight from my legs. I need help to do it. I am very insecure about them. I have massive calves and I think they are disgusting. I need helpful hints.
Elizabeth Claire Finnegan:
I need some direction on why Im not losing weight. Serious answers only please and also please READ my entire entry if you do answer so you know if your advice reflects what I’ve said.
3 months ago I decided to do I diet overhaul. I had been skinny all my life but in the last 3 years gained 20-25lbs bc of eating junk and not being active enough. So, I decided to knock it out and really change everything. I am 30 years old and 5’5 148lbs. Im normally in the 120s or 115′s and maintained that very easily. Ive never gained weight before. But its not working and I cant figure out why. I welcome any advice.
Heres what Ive done:
1. I completely cut out junk food. I used to eat lots of candy, cookies, processed refined sugar daily. The only time I have sweets now is maybe once per week and it’s a couple of bites, very limited & rare.
2. I quit caffeine. No more starbucks or diet coke, I started buying Truvia pop at Whole Foods which has zero cals and no chemicas. But I mostly drink spring water, at least 100 oz/day. If I have Truvia pop it’s a few times a week. I also drink almost no juice, and if I do it’s less than a serving of full pulp OJ (for the ruffage) a few times a week at most.
3) I started eating breakfast everyday. I do a serving or 2 of steal cut oatmeal (no sugar), with a bit of almond milk and organic berries. This keeps me full until mid to late afternoon, then I have another meal. Maybe a couple egg whites w a yoke, a slice of cheese, some raw or steamed veggies (kale+tomato) all on ezekial bread or high protein/high fiber natural multigrain bread (basically an egg sandwhich). If I dont eat eggs I may eat a serving of tofu for protein. or a serving of lentils. I am eating no sugar, no added sugar etc. Although when I make the tofu I do add a bit of organic oil, less than a serving. However, everything else I am eating is very low in fat so 100cals of olive oil once in a while doesnt seem like my problem. I also do not over eat ever. My appetite is pretty small
Overall I’m probably consuming about 1200 calories on days I am not active, and probably about 1500 on days I am active, like Id throw in an organic apple with almond butter here or there, or a handfull of kashi . I do count calories and I do NOT snack. I am reporting everything fully here.
I do light-medium exercise, via powerwalking, yoga, etc. Although I admit, I’m not a cardio/gym rat, I notice when I do super intense cardio it does increase my appetite a lot so I choose lower impact exercises.
Also, I’ve been eating less animal meat bc I was eating a ton of it before and it was making me kind of sick. So please dont suggest paleo or Atkins, I’ve done both by the book and bc I am a slow oxidizer naturally, those diets do not work for me. I promise. Ive tried it all. Also I do not consume alcohol but I never have.
what am I doing wrong? I watch these weight loss shows and I’ve noticed they eat so much worse than I do, even the ones who have about the same amount to lose. I eat no processed food, no fast food, nothing
So I’m around 5’5 and 125 pounds. I’m 16 years old and looking in the mirror is like watching a horror movie for me. At the beging of my 10th grade year i weighed 145, then my matavilism (forgive my spelling) changed and I dropped 15 pounds. Recently I’ve started running and now here I am at 125. But I don’t look good. I hate my body. I want to weight around 105-115. Everyone I talk to tells me I don’t need to lose weight, that I look good the way I am, but honestly I don’t care what they think, because I’m notto the point to where I think I look good. Good for you if you think I look good, but for personal satisfaction, I have to believe I’m skinny. I don’t believe I’m skinny yet, so any tips to get me healthy and skinny? Thank you for your time and help.
OK people so here’s my story. I’m 4’11 and used to weigh 108. Now I can already see most rolling their eyes!! I have extremely small bones that of a child so 5lbs makes a huge difference on me. I started a low fat, low Carb diet with no sugar nothing white (breads, pasta, etc) lots of whole grains, vegatables and fruit. I bike at least 3 days a week and got the whole family included to make it fun and keeps us all healthy. I do beach body which is a 10 minute workout with mixes of cardio, weight training yoga etc. You can do one 10 min workout and build from there. Everybody can do a 10 min workout! The first week I only lost two pounds per the scale and almost gave up but it was my view that was wrong. Use those cute pants in your closet that you love but could never fit into because they were too tight or muffin top lol. They will change your view the scale blurs your vision! Eat simple oats in the morning with fruit or eggs, eat a snack fruit or yogart, then lunch salad with turkey or chicken, tuna then another snack, dinner with whole grain pasta or brown rice lots of vegatables (I use to hate anything green, find what you like) then another snack if you like. Plain popcorn is a great snack! Don’t count calories, weigh yourself or listen to anyone else. Eat healthy, move your body at least 3 times a week and drop the sugar and drink water and you will notice a huge difference! Don’t think of it as a diet think of it as a lifestyle. Ever see a picture of a fat cave man? They ate lean protein, fruit, vegatables, and water, nothing processed. Americans weren’t fat until they introduced processed foods ie. White bread, pasta and junk food. It does take will power but isn’t impossible. You can have a cheat meal each week I have mine every Friday with the weekly family dinner. Hope this helps I’m now 104 and its been 2 or 3 weeks. Be realistic and have fun set your mind straight first
Hi my name is Katri and I’m 12. My weight is 105 ibs and 5’3. I need to lose 10 ibs. If I eat healthy and burn 500 calories a day, is that enough? And I don’t eat sweets or junk food. But i just wanna be thinner!
You’re 12..God knows how many people would want to weigh that much at 20(But even that seems a bit underweight). You dont need to lose anything. You dont even need to be worrying about it. If you must though, just focus on getting stronger…plus your going through an adolescent stage..its going to flucuate and change a hell a lot more in years to come. Youre just at the beginning. Just remember to eat right and excersize and get enough sleep…thats all you need at this point.
Okay, A. you are 12. When I was 12 i weighed 100 pounds even. I was not healthy and i think back to that, I looked disgusting. I’m 16 now and 125, my goal is to be, at the most, 115. But if you are healthy you’ll look good, to an extent of your weight loss. Maybe lose 5 pounds. At 12 don’t worry about being fat, but focus on being healthy, that will get you to where you want to be.
think healthy
B, when you grow up, you’re going to gain weight, there is nothing to change that, just eat right and exercise. You’ll look good and be thinner

Hi, My name is Carly, I am 15 years old, I believe I am 6’1 (not sure though) and I weigh 128 pounds. I really would like to drop a few pounds and have a nice stomach. My sides of my stomach are a little bit chubby, I think their called love handles and I really want those gone too. I do side crunches with 5 pound weights but I also have slight skoliosis which causes one side of my hip to be slightly higher than the other. I am not sure if because of that I wont be able to loose it and if i continue doing the crunches if it will help tremendously on loosing my sides? I am eating smaller portions but the thing is, my school is filled with fried food and I am not sure what I should eat. I was thinking about maybe cold cut sandwhiches would be a better choice. I also drink lots of water.
Please help, It really means alot
You sound like you’re a great weight and in good shape already. Have you ever tried kettlebell kickboxing? I recommend that for love handles. You will begin to move your abs and core in different ways than if you just do side crunches. Just doing high to low planks will also help a lot in that department.
i’m 19 years and 121lb.height is 5.3..am i fat?i need to lose 10lbs..

hi im 11 yrs old i measure 5 feet and 2 inches i weigh 130 – 134 i change weight everyday dunno y though
im really tryin 2 lose weight any advice?
Hi girls,
I totally understand. Unfortunately when self image is the most important, we are most likely to be over weight. I think it comes from eating habits instilled by our parents and being in the process of figuring out what we really need to do. Here is what i learned. I was very over weight as a chhild and teen ager. Had to put up with a lot. But as i grew older, i became more and more busy. Specially when i started working. Fill up your day. Join sport activities. Going to gym is boring. Playing is fun. if you are part of a team you have to show up or you will let down your team. If you can, find a job which is NOT around food. Then you can pay for the lovely clothes you can wear after you have lost weight. Dont stop eating. We need our energy specially if we are going to be active. Cut down all sweets and fried food. Dont worry about carbs and protiens and antioxidents. Ask any doctor and they will tell you the same. Good luck!
Changing weight around five pounds everyday is normal, your weight varies, so don’t worry about that. It’s completely normal.
i am 15 6 foot 1 and weight 13 stones, i know i am big and therefore weigh more but i resently put on that extra stone and i have a big bell how can i loose it to about 11 stone?
Hi
I am 15 years old and i weigh approx 126 pounds. I think i look fat because my thighs are massive compared to others and the front of my stomach is flabby. I want to get to my goal of 8 stone 10 but don’t know how as i exercise 5 days a week and eat healthy but don’t know what i am doing wrong.
CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME????
the way to weight loss is to limit sugars and carbonation. Natural sugar as in fresh fruit is ok but I limited it to 13 or 13 grams a day. I lost 178 pounds doing this. Carbonation was the hard one for me and after a few years I broke down and bought a six pack of diet orange and gained ten pounds but lost it within a week of not drinking carbonation. I am a firm believer in this and repeated the process one more time to make sure, same results. Just my experience.
Hey Guys,
I am 16 years old and currently, I am 156 pounds and I want to lose weight fast. The thing is that I do not have much fat around my belly….. but I am confused as to why I weigh so much….. pls help…..
First off, if you are tall then that is a big factor. Bone, especially calcium rich healthy bone, has weight. Secondly you need to look at how fit you are. There is this misconception that weight should be in a certain range, but if you are more fit than the average person of your height and age, then you probably have some muscle mass, which weighs more than fat layers do, especially if you have leg muscle. Remember your BMI, especially as a girl. You want to aim for a BMI of 18-24, 20-22 being ideal because some of that natural body fat is necessary to manage things like our cycle and hormones. A low BMI can be an indicator of being underweight or having low bone density (calcium, calcium, calcium). If your BMI is a little high, remember lean muscle will throw off your BMI just like it does your weight.
You would need to cut out 3500 calories a week, aka 500 calories a day for 7 days, to lose 1 pound. It’s simple math. That is the healthy and best way to do it. Your metabolism will adjust and start giving you a better rate. If you eat a lot of salty foods, you may be having a lot of water retention weight, so drink lots of water. And eat a good healthy breakfast! Oatmeal or a low sugar cereal (anything under 8g of sugar is best – I like Special K Blueberry and Honey Bunches of Oats w/ Almonds) to jumpstart your metabolism in the morning. That’s why it’s the most important meal of the day.
I know 1 pound a week doesn’t sound like much, but your body will adjust better to keep the weight off. I have had 2 children and I can always get back to my pre-pregnancy weight by this method without any diet pills or extreme diet plans this way.
As a 5’8″, 170 lbs physically active 35 year old man in relatively great shape I came to this site to gain further knowledge but not for a moment was I ever expecting to find any, let alone this many, young people, most under the age of 15, making pleas for help in the comment section, worrying about their weight.
While it saddens me that we as adults have let our youth down and have failed to educate them on the value of self worth and healthy lifestyle habits I feel compelled to help in whatever way I can, so with that in mind I compiled a few simple exercises to lead many of these young people down the path of a healthy and active lifestyle. Best of luck in your endeavors and I hope you all find this helpful.
Any young people under the age of 16 reading this I want you to know that the idea of weight lifting is not for you. At this age you don’t want to risk straining, over exerting or tearing something that could lead to you suffering from long term health issue. Weights, especially any weights above 30 pounds are just WAY TOO heavy.
Instead, work out every other day doing the following:
Push ups – 3 sets of 10 (or as many as you can)
Crunches – 3 sets of 10 (or as many as you can)
Pull ups – 3 sets of 10 (or as many as you can)
Dips – 3 sets of 10 (or as many as you can)
Broad jumps – 3 sets of 10 (or as many as you can)
Skipping – continuously for 3 mins (or as long as you can)
Front Plank – 3 sets holding hold for 15 to 20 seconds (or as many as you can)
Side Plank – 3 sets holding hold for 15 to 20 seconds (or as many as you can)
Lunges (without weights) – 3 sets of about 30 to 50 paces (or as many as you can)
Squats (without weights) – 3 sets of 30 (or as many as you can)
In the midst of all of this you should be resting for 30 seconds to a minute between each set and having small sips of water during this time, as drinking too much at once will result in you getting a cramp and not being able to complete the rest of the exercises.
And make sure you get in a 30 to 60 mins. of cardio DAILY (or as long as you can). Of course the most fun way to get the heart pumpin’ is by playing sports/ games (soccer, basketball, tag, an adventurous bike ride) with some friends, so don’t struggle alone. When friends are involved they help make work seem like play and provide the necessary encouragement on days you really don’t feel like doing anything at all.
If you don’t know what some of the exercises I suggested above look like, simply Google them and you’ll find examples galore.
Finally eat healthy high protein, high fiber meals regularly and lots of water, but most importantly only do what you are physically capable of doing, or until a specific exercise is no longer a challenge for you. At that point you just increase the number of sets. Remember, you have to learn to crawl before you learn to walk, so to speak, so don’t stress your body. And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not use any weights while doing any of these activities. As well, ONLY work out every other day. Your body NEEDS time to rest. Like I said before, any professional body builder will tell you that and they lift weights for a living.
Best of luck to all the young people who come across this posting. Oh and don’t forget, with the average life span lasting about 74 years, you have a whole lot of time ahead of you to worry about things like how much you weigh, so just enjoy your youth old because you’re only young once.
Take care!
Hi, my name is Lexie, i am 11 years old and im 5’2 and weigh 102 pounds, everyone tells me i am not fat, but i feel like it. All my friends are super skinny and im not. I also love abercrombie clothes and i cant fit into my reagular size in other stores. Please help me loose 10-12 pounds at least in time for summer!
Okay, you need to rethink this. Different stores have different sizes…it’s called marketing. One store decides they are going to call their pants a size 3 because the others stores are all calling that pants size a size 4. It makes a consumer feel good to go to a store and say ‘oh, look I dropped a pants size’. It’s a selling gimmick. You need to toss out your ideal of a ‘regular size’. Secondly, you are already sitting at the bottom edge of your BMI rating. Losing any weight, especially what is equivalent to 10% of you body weight will start leeching your body of some of it’s good nutrients. A certain amount of fat layer (especially in girls) is necessary to regulate our hormones, handling growth spurts, and eventually your cycle. That fat is mostly fat you can’t see or feel, if you cut out too much you start eating away at what your body needs to function properly.
Some girls are naturally super thin, not because they diet but because they have a tiny bone structure and hereditary traits for it. Your bone structure may not support a super thin figure, so trying to weigh in with someone like that won’t work. If you lose too much weight you won’t look skinny, you’ll look unhealthy. Your bones will stick out in disproportion to your body shape. You won’t have to be anorexic for people to think you are, and no one wants to be labeled like that.
i am 11 and my weigh 45 and i just don t no how to loss weight i am in a fast about 2-3 weeks
Hi! My names Emily and im 11 years old. I am 5’7.5 171cm and i weigh 153 pounds! i NEED to lose weight so i can fit in my prom dress! People keep teasing me because im fat. They poke me they touch me they even say yo your so big! so thats why i want to lose 10 pounds.. i tried many ways but its just not changing my weight! I just lost 5 pounds but i gained it back. I REALLY REALLY NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT! I HAVE TO IF I DONT EVERYONE WILL TEASE ME AND I WONT BE CONFIDENT WHEN IM DANCEING! My friend lost 35 pounds and she seems more confident in dancing more than me. I just need help! PLEASE REPLY BACK! TELL ME OTHER TIPS I COULD USE. i eat break fast, then i eat a snack, then lunch, then another snack ..should i cut down?the only time i lost weight was when i only ate lunch each day on winter vacation! please help me!
You are 5’7.5″. You are TALL. Your bones have weight, that is reality. You don’t need to lose 35 pounds, 10 pounds is a good goal if you feel you must lose weight. That would make you unhealthy for your height. If you want to lose a little weight, watch your food choices. Snacks especially. Drink LOTS of water to help manage salt intake. If you cut out too much of your normal calorie needs your body will switch into ‘survival’ mode and start hanging onto everything it can to sustain itself. Eat smart, ask your parents to help you eat smart, ask your friends to help you eat smart. Buy fruits you like and put them into small snack size ziplocks, if you don’t need to wash and prep it, you are more likely to eat the fruit over the ‘grab and go’ candy or snack bar. Breakfast is important, it jump starts your metabolism for the day! Eat something good for you but filling, like oatmeal. Binge diets don’t work in the long run, if you want to lose 10 pounds and keep it off, do it the healthy way and you will get better results. Add in some biking, dance around like a crazy person nonstop or something you enjoy even if it’s only 10 minutes a day.
I’m really sad to see so many young kids on this board… Healthy 9, 10, 11, 12 year olds should not be looking to lose weight. Remember you are growing! You need to eat healthy foods in order to grow. You are entitled to indulge in treats sometimes!
PLEASE stop being so concerned about your weight! As long as you are HEALTHY, that is what matters. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
My name is christy. I am 16, about 5’6 1/2 and i weigh approx. 132 pounds. in the past month my weight went from 120 to 132 extremely fast. I started to notice this bodyily change by how I cant fit into my cute clothes like i used too. I try to do activities and sports outside with friends as much as i can. But at the end of the day i always find myself stufing my face with fatning food, im starting to get addicted to food. ): I am ALWAYS eating more than i should. ALWAYS. I need some help, some tips and tricks, to help me drop about 10 pounds maybe even more, fast, efficent, and in a healthy way. Ive tried dieting and getting my freinds and family to help, but my parents work 24/7 and im always on the run.
Buy better snacks, like fruit and veggies you LIKE. If you like it, you are more likely to eat it. As for always being on the go, put your snacks into small ziplocks and ready to go containers in 1-2 cup portions and that way it is prepped and ready for you. You are more likely to grab it if it’s all ready to go. Also, DRINK WATER. LOTS of it. If you go into a meal super hungry, drink a glass of water first. It will help you to feel full a little sooner so you don’t overeat.
I was 130 and started running a week ago, now im 125, I keep running and lose more weight. Try that.

Dear Delaney,
The weight you are depends on your height if you want to figure out how many pounds are accurate for you please go to http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm & where it says Peoples Choice Ideal Weight you will be told the average weight for someone your height and age! Hope this helped!
i used to be like you but you need to do excercise and eat better food such as fruit, wheat bread not white, no potatoes, rice or pasta. i lost 30 lbs
thank you. you have helped me alot and i hope that i will be able to loose some weight. xx
Im 12. I am very active I exercise all day. people say omg you’re sooooo skinny, I’m way bigger than you, but I think I’m super fat. my butt and thighs are huge but you can count my ribs. I’m 4’10″ and weigh 68-75 lbs. none of my pants are fitting I’ve always worn slims but now wear regulars on occasion. I really need help. I just don’t get how people say I’m skinny. I get confident and decide to live my life then I see myself. do you think I’m fat? Ps I’ve been told I’m incredibly strong and I max out pacer tests so some of my weight could be muscles. Reply quick!!!!!
you are 12 years old and thats the age you start growing into a woman. if you weighed 75 pounds as a woman you would be EXTREMELY underweight. you are still a kid and you should not worrry about this. your body is growing!
Honey your not fat your just growing your only 12 and with the weight your at I don’t thik you should be worrried about this kind of thing wearing regular pants isn’t a bad thing
im 16 almost 17 and im currently 5′ 8″ and a little over 210. im 156 lean weight but the rest is fat and i need to loose a good deal of it. any suggestions?
I just lost 10 lbs in 7 days eating only raw(uncooked) fruits and some vegetables and a small amount of nuts every couple of days. I have found it to be the fastest and healthiest way to drop weight. I hope this helps. You could google raw foods and read about it.
Actually that’s not healthy at all. From the sounds of it you seem to be starving your body of the necessary proteins and carbohydrates to function adequately. To put this into perspective the only people who regularly drop that much weight, in that short a space of time, are professional fighters when they’re trying to make weight for a weigh in, but even they put the 10 to 15 pound weight loss back on immediately in order to have the adequate level of energy to fight the following day. Whether such a diet is even sustainable, prolonged, extreme, dieting of this nature, I’m afraid could lead to some very serious long term health issues.
The safest and healthiest way to loose weight is by drinking lots of water and eating health, high protein meals 3 times a day with healthy high fiber snacks in between. Along with a minimum of 30 mins./ day of aerobic exercise (running/ cycling) and another 30 mins./ day of anaerobic exercise (weight training). Building muscle (not necessarily bulking up in size) boosts your metabolism which burns fat quicker.
Remember, nothing in life comes without honest hard work.
I am 13 years old almost 14 and I am 5’3 and I am 148 pounds I checked my BMI calcuator and I am a good 5-8 pounds over weight I even checked with my doctor and I am overweight. I am not one of those girls who is obsessed with losing weight and all but I need to get healthy none of my cloths fit me so I need to start now before things get out of control.
Hey Cindy,
Good to hear you’re not obsessed with your weight, and to further put your worries at ease, you’re only 13, which means you’re still going through puberty, which means you’re prone to sudden growth spurts. So don’t use your clothing as any indication of your weight/ health because you’re simply growing, which is a good thing.
Just remember to eat healthy high protein and high fiber meals regularly, and get adequate physical exercise daily.
Take care!
Iam soo uoset that Iam seeing comments from10/11 year olds that their wii fit is telling them they are in any way over or under weight!
This is what technology is doing to our children not to mention media.
At this age you are all still growing and changing….Its good to know good habbits and life skillz, but I strongly feel like if at this young age your focus is weight…There is going to be a much bigger issue down the line.
Embrace who you are and who you are working at becoming as an teen/adult in the future.
Iam 28 with child and Iam still learning every day.
Lots of luck girls in being as healthy as YOU can be :0)
The key is to understand what you are starting with. This is just an example, the exact numbers may differ depending on your acvitiy level. But I think it’s an important concept to understand. I use the #13 as a multiplier, to determine how many calories you need to merely maintain your current weight.
A person who is 200 pounds, on average needs 2,600 calories per day to maintain their weight. (200 X 13 = 2,600). A person who is 150 pounds, on average needs 1,950 calories per day to maintain their weight. (150 X 13 = 1,950). A person who is 125 pounds, on average needs 1,625 calories per day to maintain their weight (125 X 13 = 1,625). And a person who is 110 pounds, on average needs 1,430 calories per day to maintain their weight.
So if you do the math, and know that one pound equals 3,500 calories, you can see it is probably more likely to lose more weight if you are larger than you are smaller. I am on a 1,200 calorie per day diet. I eat whatever I want, but I just don’t go over 1,200 calories. I have been on the diet for 8 1/2 weeks and have lost 15 pounds. I started at the beginning of the year at 151 pounds and I am now 136. My goal is to be 120 pounds by the 4th of July.
At 151 pounds, my body needed 1,963 calories to maintain that weight. Now I am 136. Using the math from above, my body needs only 1,768 calories to maintain it’s weight. At the 151 pound weight, and on my 1,200 calorie diet, I was able to burn (without excercising) 763 calories per day. Now that I am at 136, and still on my 1,200 calorie diet, my body burns 568 calories per day. That is a 195 calorie difference. See how this works? So now I am trying to get in 30-60 minutes of excercise per day to keep up the trend. I have not excercised at all during the first 8 weeks. Don’t beat me up. . . I love working out. Really! I just wanted to see if it was possible. And I truly think weightloss is a mathematical concept. It is true. You must burn less than what you eat. But really understand and “know” what you are eating.
For the ladies who are trying to lose weight, you need to understand it’s not going to happen over night. It’s going to take considerable time, dedication, and hard work. I watch The Biggest Loser, it inspires me and reminds me. The key is do it your way. It’s a numbers game. Just know your numbers!!! Only you can be responsible for that.
I meant “burn more calories” than you eat. Last graph, OOPS!
Hi, I was wondering why you multiple your weight by the number 13? Where does the 13 come from? Sounds like a great system.
Thanks for helping me loose whieght!!! It really Worked!!!!
What is up with all theses kids trying to lose weight? WOW lol, anyways here’s my story.. As a teenager I lost about 80 pounds and after 5 years I couldnt keep up with my unhealthy lifestyle so put it all back on. I am 24 now and had a baby 9 months ago. I started to lose weight in November lost 22 pounds since then lately I havent been losing a lot cause I guess my excercise routine was too short. Now I walk 1:30 and a half a day to 3 hours a day and eat about 1000-15000 calories a day I drink plenty of water, I avoid sugar and I currently weight 225 pounds and mesure 5 foot 8. I know it seems heavy lol, but I dont look my weight. According to a calculator I found online an hour and a half walk at moderate speed for my weight and age burns 608 calories. Do you think if I keep this up, I will get back into the 100′s soon like 4-5 months?
*one hour and a half to 3 hours a day
Hi.
I am 22 years old, 5’10” and currently weigh 167.6 lbs ( 76.2 kg ) .
So far, I’ve lost 8.8 lbs , since march 1st.
I am interested in losing 20 – 25 lbs more, to be at my ideal highschool and college weight. = 143 lbs = 65 kg
I work out for an hour , doing aerobics and yoga mixed, every day, drink 4-6 glasses of water / day , and do not eat after 5 pm.
Some of the foods I eat are :
- plain lettuce salad
- oranges
- apples
- fish ( tuna or salmon )
- soup ( milestone/ miso soup/ knor, etc )
Some of the foods I avoid eating are :
-Sweets
-Bread
-Pork
-Pasta
I also do not snack in btw meals nor do I drink alcohol.
I’ve been feeling great for the past week and don’t want to stop until I reach my goal weight.
Therefore – if you’re overweight and want to feel healthier and be comfortable in your own skin, try doing what I’m doing and you won’t be dissapointed.
Cheers ,
Ana.
Hey Ana,
Just read your post and I want to congratulate you on your progress. Thought I’d mention though, snacking is okay, just be cautious of what you’re snacking on. In fact you should be eating 6 times a day or approximately every three hours. That’s Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner with snacks in between, so snacking could be a cup of baby carrots or half a cup of almonds, along with lots of water through out your day. Oh and that being said you can extend your last food intake for the day to 7:00pm
Increase your daily protein intake, so lunch and dinner should be lots of fish and lean chicken breast. Upon doing so kick up your workouts with a weight training program. Growing muscle increases your metabolism which burns fat quicker, and no you won’t get all big and bulky from lifting weights, that’s not only a myth but it’s physically impossible for you, as a woman, to do.
Good luck!
i’m 13 and 5’3-5’4 and i weigh 156 lbs how do i get to 135? SOON! i do dance, swimming, and gymnastics. PLEASE help! i think i jsut need to watch my eating habits cuz i should be really skinny anything else i can do guys?
You are 9 years old and are still growing. Yes at 13 I was the same but i never needed to be skinny because that is not what my body build is, if i was skinny i would look like someone who was dying, i would look ill. just do dance and swimming and gymnastics. dont eat junk food but remember your a kid so eat a little. just be a kid because when your an adult you’ll be looking back thinking “where has that time gone? i wanna be a kid again” your only a child once dont throw it away over your weight. eat healhy (but safely too) and enjoy life. i’m 22 and i worry about my weight because i have a football/soccer injury (had my kneecap broken) too much weight and it becomes extremely painful, too light and my leg wont have muscle mass enough to help my leg be strong. just be happy
why are all the kids on this site anyway ur kids no one should look like barbie shes not real
Well put! If you are active and eating healthy then don’t worry about your weight. Also remember that people with more muscle weigh more than people who are not toned.
I agree with Kristie and Heather here. All you beautiful young ladies of 11-15 should be focusing on hanging out and what your going to be doing this weekend with friends verses loosing weight. Im just barely 21 and weigh in at 125lbs (and i look normal). When i was your age I was considered overweight as well, but as i grew taller and my figure filled out everything chaged. Don’t diet at this age, its not healthy. Your going to grow into your body. Be who you are without changing yourself. Focus on the now and your youthful age.
This message is to everyone wanting to lose weight, but especially those under 20 yr. of age:
1. Cut out all soda, speciality drinks (Fuse, Fraps) and fruit juices. Drink water or skim milk. You will lose 10 lb in one year if you currently drink sweetened drinks.
2. Opt for fruit over cakes, biscuits, cookies, etc…
3. Opt for yogurt (low fat) over ice cream.
4. Opt for veggies over crunchy foods like chips, etc…
5. Exercise really is your friend. Start slow if you’re more of a couch potato. Walk in your home, if you’re too embarassed to walk in public. Just turn on your favorite tunes and move.
6. Imagine the way you want to feel (not weighted down, bored, FAT) and go enjoy the outdoors. There’s beauty all around us and you are beautiful too..
7. Remember always that God loves you and you are not alone.
Hope this helps.
your a real sweetheart.
Im 11 and my Wii Fit says i am overweight, im almost 7 stone and have been on a diet since summer 2011 but i lost weight and have gained some of it again so im thinking of eating 500 calories each day and burning off 700 each day
Honey you don’t need to do this to yourself. Talk to someone that can maybe take you to a nutritionist, or try to make little changes in your eating habits like eating fruits instead of candy and drinking water and natural 100% juice instead of beverages, but you don’t have to starve yourself you can get ill. Talk to your parents or guardian or someone you know loves you very much and can teach you how to eat well or make healthier choices. Another thing, you are a kid go be it, play, do some sports, dance, bike, swim, surf. There’s a lot of good and entertaining stuff you can do that will help you feel better about yourself
If you put yourself on a diet you will stunt your growth and health; your body needs calories to make you healthy and strong! Not giving it calories will only put it into starvation mode which was cut your metabolism by 40%. It is much better to eat when you are hungry, but eat healthy choices. Try Kashi cereals and lots of cereals/ breads with whole grains, pasta with red sauce; brocolli, spinach, tomatoes, lots of vegetables; and apples, bananas, and strawberries instead of ice cream, chips, or fried food. It’s okay when you eat these things a little bit, but making mostly healthy choices and eating plenty of fruit and vegetables and cutting back the sweets and fried food/ white bread or pasta will help you lose weight. Along with this, join a sport team and play or take up rollerblading! There are fun ways to be active and starving will only make your body worse. A body needs at least 1200 calories to function properly, but since you are only 11 and still growing you will need more than that. Don’t count; it only sets up a bad habit for the rest of your life. Just choose healthy options
And talk to your parents about it if you can. Hope this helps!
Im 11 and my Wii Fit says im overweigh,t help
screw the wii fit I say!!! No one should be told by a video game that they are in any way over or under weight!
At 11 you are still growing sweets :0)
Hi, I’m 12 years old, turning 13 in April. I am 5’1 and weigh approx. 120lbs. I want to lose between 5-10lbs and lose some weight on my belly and thighs. I’m happy with my actual figure at the moment and I’m aware that my body is changing but I’d just like to lose a bit of weight so I can look good for my 13th and my summer holidays. Please help me. I don’t want to tell my parents, I’m not close to them, I wish I was. I want to keep it a secret without them getting suspicious. Do WiiFit work? I own one and don’t know if it actually works or not. Any advice?
Try the 30 minuite jog on wii fit or the boxing on wii fit
Please help! I’m like 5’3″ and last checked I am 175 lbs! I am sooooooo unhappy I’m only 12 but I need to loose weight! I already go through enough depression being fat and having acne! I really don’t want to get a eating disorder though please help me get a specific routine to help this!
Look up the UN diet. That’s what my parents, sister and I are on. I started on jan 29th and lost 15 pounds so far. I have cheated a few times because I went out or something but then the next day I just get right back to it. Eating healthy really is the key and then exersize.

This is y I’m trying to lose because I’m 77 pounds and my how to lose 10 pounds is (unanswered)
brandon and lucy this is a website for people overweight so just get off because weighing 90 and 77 pounds aint ncthing
I am extremely concerned about all of the young kids (especially the ones who are younger than ten) on this website looking to lose 10 lbs. Do not take this the wrong way, I agree that if you are overweight, which is very sadly becoming more common in younger generations whether it be due to parenting mistakes or whatever else, I personally believe that if a 10 year old weighs more than I do at 22 years old you cant blame anyone but the parents, and I say this from experience because I have a younger cousin in this sichuation, but anyways like I was saying, if you are overweight then by all means you need to be doing everything you can to try and make a healthier life for yourself, however, when we have kids who have barely reached puberty saying they feel they need to starve themselves and are so uneducated that they think by not drinking water they are going to help themselves, that says something major about our society. I am just absolutely ashamed of what our society is becoming.
Crystal I completely agree with you.
Well I can’t believe it myself went to my weigh in at
Weight watchers this afternoon and I lost 7 pounds in one week! I have gone from 10st9 to 10st 2 I can’t
Believe it I have never lost 7 pound before in one week all I did was stick to my daily and weekly allowance and this bit is killing me I QUIT chocolate
No chocolate anything my friend suggested that we
Have a chocolate ban no choc cereals nothing chocolate at all oh boy it was hard as before I was eating so much chocolate but as soon as I stopped for.a week I loose 7 pound! Don’t think I need chocolate like I thought I did try that no chocolate at all …I can’t have any till 3 weeks time my 30 birthday

Fizz, whenever you have a crazy craving in the future try dark chocolate. It really is easy to get adjusted to and healthier than milk chocolate.

Hey! Taylor I have the same problem! I need to know how much you weigh so that I can help you. Also, if you could include your age and how much weight you want to lose, in how much time(days). The website that I have down is not about losing weight, but you should check it out. I wanna go through this together. I also have “big” thighs. I am only 12 years old and I weigh 110. I am mostly muscle, but I have “a lot” of body fat near my stomach area, and I’m trying to get rid of it. Please reply and thank-you for being honest!
-Kyndal Robbins
I’m really concerned as to why there are people as young as eleven looking on how to loose weight. When I was that age, I was more concerned about my Tamagotchi dying, not how much I weighed. I’m fifteen and I still don’t care. No weight people have posted is bad. You really don’t want to be too skinny, often that results in more health problems than being obese. Which you’re not in the first place. Also, being too skinny is really gross looking. No one wants to look like a walking skeleton. Please, PLEASE stop being so concerned with your weight. As long as you’re healthy, that’s all that matters.
Hey! THEY CAN LOSE WEIGHT IF THEY WANT. You don’t need to be criticizing them about something that is no of your busness. And you should be concerned about your weight! Please reply to me with your opinion of this! Thanks!
-Kyndal Robbins
a these other people just care, i don’t think they are being overly critical
I am 13 YO, I work out 3-4 times a week, for 1 hr. I am 5′ 7″ and 135lbs. I am by no means fat, however, I would like to get down to 120-125 lbs, with muscle. I can’t be eating 5-6 meals a day, seeing as I am a student. If anyone could post an exercise schedule or some tips, it would be greatly appreciated. (Please, mostly upper body exercises, seeing as I am recovering from left knee bursitis, a torn meniscus, ACL, MCL and LCL.)
hey im 10 years old and i was 112 lbs and 4’11 and i lost 12 lbs by not eating for three days and avoided water since your body weight is mostly water you should try to reduce your water intake now im 90 lbs im still trying to ad muscle but if you slim down about 10 more lbs you can see the muscle your body has im on my 2 day of not eating and not drinking water hopfully i lose those ten lbs
That is terrible for you, you need to eat in order to be healthier otherwise you may end up having an eating disorter, please eat.
Drinking water helps you get rid of more weight. Your body will hold onto as much water as it can if you arent drinking enough. This means. you will actually lose more weight the more water you drink. Your body will be constantly hydrated, therefore not holding on to all the extra water weight…. You’re too young to worry about your weight as well!
You’re lucky! You have a fast metabolism still, just be a kid, go play outside, you’ll be fine!!!!
For one, at your age you shouldn’t even be worrying about dieting unless you are a unhealthy weight,
food was made for a reason, to get rid of starvation, if you starve yourself you will cause problems with your health which can lead to very dangerous things that could make you end up in hospital.
Even though you carry a lot of water in your body, you are still told to drink at least 2 glasses a day. You can still dehydrate easily.
Also, Not eating doesn’t make you lose weight, at first it does but then when you start eating again, you will pack on the weight twice as bad and quickly. so your doing your self no good.
congrats im gon try this tell u if it worx
wish me luck : ]
Hey! Maybe I can help. I am only 12 years old, but you should still read this! I agree on the eating thing. I only eat 3 times a day and you should do the same! Below is a schedule I made up JUST FOR YOU. It is pretty much all upper body, comment on how you think about it! And it doesn’t matter what order you do this in!
-Kyndal Robbins
Day 1-
- Stretch (so you dont hurt anything)
- If you have weights; lift 30-40 pounds in each hand while you are listening to music(do this for about 10-15 minutes- no Stopping/ Quiting)
- WATER BREAK! Drink close to 1 cup of water (or more)
- Get on a wooden or hard floor and for 1 minute each exercise do push ups, crunches, and plank NO WATER BREAK IN BETWEEN
- WATER BREAK! Drink close to 1 cup of water (or more)
- LAST THING! Repeat push ups, crunches, and plank. (one minute a piece NO WATER BREAK)
- Water Break
REPEAT THESE EXERCISES DAILY AND DON’T GIVE UP- EVENTUALLY YOU WILL LOSE ENOUGH WEIGHT TO REACH YOUR GOAL!!!
Hey Kyndal,
I love your fitness enthusiasm, but even professional body builders take days off. At the age of twelve weight training is not only too early, but also dangerous as your bones and tissues are still growing. At this age you don’t want to risk straining, over exerting or tearing something that could lead to you suffering from long term health issues. Weights, especially 30 to 40 pounds like you suggested, are just WAY TOO heavy.
Work out every other day doing the following:
Push ups – 3 sets of 10 (or as many as you can)
Crunches – 3 sets of 10 (or as many as you can)
Pull ups – 3 sets of 10 (or as many as you can)
Dips – 3 sets of 10 (or as many as you can)
Broad jumps – 3 sets of 10 (or as many as you can)
Skipping – continuously for 3 mins (or as long as you can)
Front Plank – 3 sets holding hold for 15 to 20 seconds (or as many as you can)
Side Plank – 3 sets holding hold for 15 to 20 seconds (or as many as you can)
Lunges (without weights) – 3 sets of about 30 to 50 paces (or as many as you can)
Squats (without weights) – 3 sets of 30 (or as many as you can)
In the midst of all of this you should be having small sips of water, as drinking too much at once will result in you getting a cramp and not being able to complete the rest of the exercises.
And make sure you get in a 30 to 60 mins. of cardio DAILY (or as long as you can) Of course the most fun way to get the heart pumpin’ is by playing sports/ games (soccer, basketball, tag, an adventurous bike ride) with some friends, so don’t struggle alone.
Best of luck Kyndal and any other young people who come across this posting. Oh and don’t forget, with the average life span lasting about 74 years, you have a whole lot of time ahead of you to worry about things like how much you weigh, so just enjoy being less than 20 years old because you’re only young once.
Take care!
I’m 13, 5’4 and 101pounds. My goal is 90, but i can’t seem to resist food! I’m just printing out pictures of thinspo now to keep me motivated! I can’t eat five meals a day because i obviously go to school so i normally just dont eat lunch and then my parents wont let me out of the house without a ‘proper’ breakfast and then i have to eat a big dinner:/! i NEED to lose 11pounds!x
Hey Isabella,
Being motivated to lose weight is totally awesome, but being 5’4″ and about 100 lbs, you’re actually underweight according to your BMI (body mass index). In my imagination, you’re probably a twig, and losing another 10 lbs would most likely be unhealthy for you. You could actually stand to gain 10 lbs instead of losing them. Not that you should gorge, but make sure that you get the right amounts of carbs, meats, dairy, etc. Your parents are right to make sure you get good meals every day, but when you’re 13, you probably think that they don’t know anything (I know I did). Don’t worry about losing weight and being skinny; focus on being healthy, kid! It’ll pay off in the long run.
~Kelly
seetie! I was 5′ and became 5’2″ in high school, weighed 95 lbs and everyone thought I was SKINNY! one of the smallest girls in the class, your weight is THIN right now!
Oh, sweetie, do NOT look at thinspo. That’s promoting anorexia. That is horrible! You shouldn’t being doing that. You’re still very young, you don’t want to lessen your life-span on trying to look like a bag of bones. A lot of those pictures are girls who are anorexic and not healthy. Your hair will start falling off, your skin will dry, your teeth will rot and start to fall out. Do not fall for that.
I am 15 turning 16 in july and i weigh 129-130 ibs & i’m 5’10 and i excercise around 3 -4 times a week. You are perfect right now!! The more you worry about weight now, the more obsessive you will be later. Your weight is where it ought to be for your age, just eat when you are hungry. If you find yourself obsessing about food, this is where the disorders will begin, please do not let this happen to yourself, enjoy the people around you, what you are learning in school, and your hobbies, you are young! Just so you know, we women have a tendency of worrying about weight because we compare ourselves to one another , we are competitive, and we want to impress the boys. Well, when it comes down to it, the boys want to be attracted to you, but attraction does not necessarily mean skinny, it changes for every guy, but most of all they want to see that you like yourself, and they see this through your confidence and interests. You CANNOT develop interests if you are too busy worrying about your weight. Worrying about your weight has the ability to take over your life, what are you able to contribute to your friends, family, and classmates, if this is your only major concern in life?
I am nine and I weigh 110 is that normal?
your nine dont worry so much about losing weight enjoy like wait till later to worry so much about that. I’m sure your perfectly fine and healthy if you dont think you are cut down on soda and eat more veggies be safe
Dont give her advice like that, she may take that advice and tgink “Since im nine I dont have to worry about weight or eating healthy”. That can lead to health problems and next thing you know she is going to regret what she did. Just eat healthy, exercise, and be focused onb why you are doing it.
well i think its kinda alot cuz im 14 and i weigh the same
no its not alot at nine you havent hit your growth spirt yet. kids your age should not be worrying about your weight thats rediculous. weight varies between everyone if your 18 and 200 then you should be seeing a nutritionist about how to be healthier.
Great write up

Why on Earth would you want to lose anymore weight? At 5′ 6″ 105 lbs is WAY to thin. You need to GAIN not lose. The reason you can’t lose anymore at this point is because your poor body to trying to hang on for dear life.
I agree with DEEDEE I am the same height as you and at 120-125 I fit in a size 2 to a size 0 gain some weight you probably look sick.

I am a kpop dancer and I dance every day for hours (dancing is my life <3) but I am not losing any. I am constantly gaining pound by pound every week and I dont know how to stop. I don't eat any differently and I eat healthily. I drink a lot of water every day. I dont know if it is muscle I am gaining or if it is fat, because my waist was 23 inches and now it is 25. Help please
You are just where you should be. As you get older your body fills out, your not a little girl anymore. Your weight right now is perfect for you, don’t change it!

i am 5 feet seven inches and weigh 120.I want to weigh 110 and get rid of my ffat hips and thighs. I need sometips. I am a vegetarian so why can’ti lose the weight.
It’s because you don’t exercise
Popular to common belief a fat free diet will actually do more harm then good when it comes to losing weight
Please tell me why so many people on this site want to be uber unhealthy skinny? No wonder there are so many girls/women with eating disorders!
I’m 29, 5 Feet short. I weigh 133 and I’m not happy, my clothes are tight and I dont feel comfortable. I’ve always been skinny and this is making me very depressed. I need to lose 10 pounds or even more. I’ve been working out for a month now (4 to 5 days a week) and eating very good. Drink up to 8 glasses of water a day. I have just stopped eating pasta and today I decided to not drink Soda for a week or so and see if this helps. I’m not seeing a change in my clothes or the scale yet. Dont know if I’m doing anything wrong. Or if I need to start doing something else and just give it time.
Oh, my goodness, Jessica! I feel like I am reading a post by myself! I wish I could have advice, but honestly I am just writing to say that I can empathize with you. I am also 5’0, and the scales fluctuate at different times of day and different times of the week between 128 in the morning and on up to 133 sometimes–especially at night. I have started training for a half-marathon, and something I’ve noticed is that my body is looking and feeling better (clothes even feel more loose), but the scales won’t budge with me, either. You know what I am wondering? You didn’t specify this either way, but I am wondering if doing the same exercise over and over just becomes the “norm” for our bodies. I’ve consistently heard two things that I am bad about doing: change up the workout or intensity and do at least days’ worth of strength training. Good luck!
The key to a healthy weight and keeping it is weight training “THE RIGHT WAY” . Muscle takes up less room than fat. I wear a size 6 and weigh 160 and 5’7”, because muscle weighs more and takes up less room. Doing the same excersise day after day, your body becomes conformed to it. You have to switch it up from time to time. Do the eliptical for 30 min 3 times a week alternating intensity, then do a light jog 2 times a week but run in bursts of speed to increase your calorie burn. You have to be at the gym for at least 2 hours doing 1+ hours of weight training to see any type of results and definition. Weighing yourself everyday is more discouraging than you think. Weigh yourself on a monday morning on an empty stomach and right after you use the bathroom. The do not weigh again for 2 weeks. Also eating after 6pm is damaging. Once you eat dinner, drink only water and eat nothing. That way your body is forced to feed off of fat while you sleep. This has all worked for me and I wish yall the best and hope it works for you too!
Jessica,
There are many things that you need to evaluate. You may be losing fat, but not weight. Good way to determine weight loss is by taking measurements before starting.
During your workouts are you doing Cardio or strength training? You also need to switch your workout up every 2-3 weeks. Your body is VERY smart. To get maximum results you have to change it up. You will need to be burning at least 500calories during your workouts.
Another aspect would be food. It is not all about cutting out pastas and rice. Quantity plays a huge roll in weight loss. Protein consumption burns very lean, suggest making sure you are reaching your DV of protein. Also, it is very hard to stay motivated where there are so many temptations. I suggest cutting out SODA (even diet) for the time being. Eatting healthy meals (ex. 6oz chicken breast, Cup of vegis, 1/2 cup brown rice) . Track all you calories you eat. I use myfitnesspal.com, its free and it keeps you honest on what you are eatting. To loose weight you MUST have a calorie deficit, if your BMR is only 1400calories and you burn 500 a day during a workout; you may consume 1900calories and remain at the same weight. Anything under 1900 would be a deficit. 500calorie deficit a day = 1 pound a week.
DO NOT CHEAT on foods!
Stay motivated! Hope this helps.
What’s with all the young people who weigh nothing wanting to lose weight? I’m 26, 6′ tall and weigh 195 lbs. I would like to weigh 180 lbs. MAYBE 175… i don’t wanna be just skin and bones.
Wow Seth, I FINALLY see a comment here that does not sound crazy! As Im going thru the comments trying to find a REASONABLE person trying to lose serious weight or some additional advice tips, instead Im reading all these “babies” still undergoing a growth process talking about losing weight at 18 and under! Here I am at 29 years of age with 195lbs but still embracing the extra curves I have gained. I want to lose to simply be healthy (my goal is 140) but w/o losing my curves.
I WISH these young girls here would realize that being under 18 and with a weight of 125 or even 130 and a height of 5.4″ is NOT fat! Unless you love the ‘skin and bones’ look then I suggest to just eat healthy and EMBRACE ur natural curves! SMH!
I am !5, i am 5 3′ and i weigh 135 pounds, How much weight should i lose ?
Lol, You fineeee..yOU dont needa loose weight.Im 12 & i weigh 110.:p & im trying to loose 20 lbs.
I am way younger then you (I am a preteen) and I’m 5 foot 5 and a half and weigh 150! I look super lean but my doc says I have to lose at least 5 or 10 lbs.
i cant believe your dr is telling a preteen to lose weight… i am a mom and i feel that you are fine… talk to your mom…see what she thinks about what the dr said to you…
This sound terrific. Thanks
im 13 years old…. im 5 feet and 5 in. and weigh 130 pounds, is that good or bad.I really think i sould lose a few pounds any suggestions???
-should srry haha
Hey olivia. I dont think you NEED to lose any weight. According to “statistics” your weight is proportional to your height. Your BMI (body mass index) is 21.6. So you are okay on weight. Normal weight = 18.5–24.9 and you are within that range. So if you are only 13yrs old, im sure you are still in school. So just work out regularly or when ever you have P.E. or whatever. You are young, so your metabolism should be working properly. I have added a link to so hopefully you will find some good info there. Good luck! http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/
about right for your height your school nurse and gym teacher should also know
i am 13 year old .
height : 161 cms
weight : 51kg
how much should i reduce ……????
I think that the most important thing is to feel good in your body. you may think it’s cliché, but it’s true. A diet is difficult most of the times, and while we’re dieting, we find ourselves tempted by many things. When the diet’s over, we gain the fat that we lost because we eat that junk food and sweets. So when you decide that you really WANT to lose weight, find some long-term diet and stick to it.
ask your docto onyour next visit or find an online BMI. Thay usually work. Or you can find out yourself from studying the old fashioned way. I am a preteen and I’m 5 foot 5 and a half and weigh 150lbs. I look Okay but I found out tHAT I had to lose at least 5 or 10 lbs.
Well, me i’m 11 and I weigh 54. So, there is nothing for you to worry about. Because this morning i did a little test. Its a math. But its too long for me to write, so just dont worry. You are not overweight. You are marginary. That means you must lose some weight. Not much! Just make sure you do not reach 55-58. When you reach 50 or less that means your an average weight. If you are less than 40 that means you are under weight. If u reach 60 that means you are superior/super overweigth!
I am 9 years old and 71 pounds, I think I’m fat. Am I?
OMG! OMFG! You are not fat. You are super fat. Come on! That is so not healthy. Me im 11 and weigh 54. And that is called fat. What do you eat?
I would like to add that Emily is 71 POUNDS (32 kilos) which is quite small. You are both children and should not be concerned about losing weight, just be healthy and have fun! Go play outside or read a book
Trust me, you’ll be worrying about your weight for years, for now just be a kid!
Shamira is probably talking about kgs, not pounds. 54 pounds is like a toddler
dude u need 2 stp being rude emily is perfectly fine u i dunn u need to gain weight i mean 54 u might as well never eat again O and next time watch wat ur saying 2 other people and worry bout urself now if ur reading this turn off the computer and go eat some ice cream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Emily,
Please ignore the previous remark from Shamira. She has no idea what fat is and being only 11 she is not educated on diet and nutrition to know that to determine if someone is overweight you must know height and weight. Shamira could be a very short girl, you may be very tall for your age. The taller you are the more you will weigh, because of bones and muscle, not fat. At any rate, what she said to you was wrong and mean. You are still growing. The best advice I can give to you is to make sure you drink plenty of water, eat lots of veggies, fruit, and protein like baked chicken, fish, or pork tenderloin. Excerise everyday, do not just sit in front of a screen playing video games or watching TV. Enjoy your young life! Join a team, play sports, go walking or running with your parents. Do not let what Shamira said to you hurt you or make you feel bad about yourself. She has no idea what she is talking about. Good luck to you!!! Have a happy and healthy life because YOU deserve it!! And study hard too!!! You can do it!
how tall r u? no one can know your healthy weight w/out height
l am 5.5 tall and my weight is 173 is this ok or I need to lose some
You must say how old you are!
Shamira, you should not be advising anyone about weight when you clearly can’t even tell between metric and imperial. Weight isn’t determined solely by age but by height and physical structure. My sister and I are the exact same height, 3 years apart – she weight 10 lbs more than I do and is a size smaller when it comes to pants.
Muscles weigh more than fat so, although I weigh less I have wider hips. Our bodies are completely different shapes and my sister doesn’t carry one ounce of fat on hers – yet she’s heavier.
Instead of acting like you know everything, go study and play outside. Until you’re all grown up and have good sensible advice to give, stop trying to sound like you’re some kind of specialist.
Self-image issues can be very serious and you aren’t being helpful when you tell a kid 71 lbs is too much.
Yes, you need to drink water. The most amazing thing about our body is that it is extremely smart. If it knows we are not getting enough water, then it will retain it in our body, which we will not get rid of it. We need to drink enough water so we naturally cleanse ourselves. In addition, eating all those white based carb’s actually make you retain water too, so do your best to stick with whole grain products that have enough fiber.
Thanks,
Kisar
I have been excersizing faithfully, 3/4 hour every morning, drinking lts of water, eating lots of salads and not much in the way of starches or carbs, but have yet to lose a pound. I have actually gain a pound a day this week alone. What am I doing wrong?? Help
Maybe the pound a day you are gaining is muscle? Idk it is a just a thought.
You will lose it.. may be ur food intake is more than ur workout. Depends on what kind of a workout you are doing… try something which involves more of your legs ( big muscles helps burn more calories) and do something which is hard and actually work up a sweat. If you have to walk, walk up an incline without using any sort of arm support. Hope this helps.
hey guys i think this dieting and stuff is pure crap……….if you want to loose weight without much prolems try yoga…..wheen i say yoga i dont mean all those fancy stuff like hot yoga or power yoga…….everyone knows yoga is indian but they dont know which yoga do millions of indians follow nowadays …there is this yoga guru called baba ramdev his yoga is very simple totally free of cost and you can do it at home……..no excessive dieting(although avoid butter, deep fried stuff, soda etc) and all this fancy fitness plans………here is the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVinEhjt17g
the accent will be a problem.. but be patient …also skip the first three minutes if u want but after that do listen to the instructions……also dont worry if you are not able to do some of the pranayam the most important pranayam is kapalabhati and anlom vilom ignore the others if you want…also dont worry about his ideology(vedic) just follow the yoga nothing else…..try this every morning(empty stomach,i.e dont eat anything before doing yoga and dont eat till 1 hour after finishing yoga …..so wake up at 5am or 6am do yoga for 30 mins-60mins and have brealkfast after 7 am only) for 15 days you will see the results……….
yeahh ur rite sourabh… its the best and the healthiest way of losing weight.
u don’t have to run miles and sweat like anything.
its just so simple and effective as well.
and it helps in getting rid of other diseases as well.!
Eat drink lots of water. Drinking water helps a lot. When u breathe, breathe in thru ur nose and exhale thru ur mouth this cuts a couple of inches of fat.
I’d like to first start off by saying that the Atkins Diet, while effective, is dangerous, even detrimental, to your health. There is a better way that improves not only your weight, but also your health. It even diminishes, and gets rid of, your risk of heart disease/cancers/diabetes.
Munny, if you really want to lose weight and improve your health at the same time, then don’t follow the dangerous, health-threatening Atkins diet.
Read “Eat to Live” by Dr. Furhman. It really changed my life.
Sorry but thats a bunch of BS, the ONLY time Atkins is “detrimental to your health”, is when people take the plans idea and run out and think they can have a pound of bacon every day and all sorts of high fat meat, and think the plan calls for NO fruits and veggies. And that is not what its all about…..Its main teaching is to eat unprocessed food, …..foods with ONE ingredient. etc…..It all depends on what people do with the information on what makes it healthy or bad.
thats CORRECT! …So many ignorant people out there, have no clue about Atkins or south beach ..and LOWERING carbs not eliminating! The people such as those above more than likely have never even read the book.
The South Beach diet helped me quickly drop 10 pounds, and then just staying active and limiting carbs (but I still had fruit and even once in awhile candy, sweets) If you aren’t in a hurry, the first 2 weeks on SB you will drop up to 10. I know some of it is water weight but trust me, you feel slimmer in your stomach and your clothes all fit you better, and it gives you confidence to keep going on your exercise/diet plan. YOu don’t even have to stick to South Beach, just find one that you can do for long-term. I wasn’t terribly overweight either, i’m 5’9″, I was at 150 pounds and after 2 weeks doing South Beach (the first 2 weeks are no sugar. no alcohol, fruit, sugar of any kind) i lost 10 pounds. After that I lost a few more gradually but I wasn’t strict with my eating, I just kept active during the day. I was a nanny in Chicago and I walked everywhere, played with the girl in my charge, did her laundry, etc. By no means did I “work out.” just stay active!
Even just following the no-sugar thing for several days helps. You don’t have to follow a certain diet. Right now I am trying to lose about 10 pounds and then tone up (I did gain weight after I went on a cruise, then I got depressed and just said “screw it” and ate whatever I wanted. I gained back a lot of weight, but I knew what i was doing). I am drinking tons of water, limiting carbs (esp. at nighttime) and staying active. Again, walking, shopping etc is something easy that works. If anyone wants advice let me know. I am not someone who likes to workout or doesnt like to eat! lol.
I have been eating low carb for a few months now. I found a sweet called Cheesecake Ice Cream clouds that are 70 calories each and have ,5 grams of carbs. Google the title, it is delicious and may help your sweet tooth.
Heii, i am 15 , 5’7 and i weight 152… i really want to loose weight. I dont like hambergers, poutine, pizza so i normally eat healthy things. I really like to eat fruits and vegetables. I find myself fat, but i really want to loose weight. i know i need to drink a lot of water ( which i already do i drink a water bottle a day ) and not to eat past 7:30 at night… Do you think you could e-mail me some tips..? i dont know what to do…i don’t eat breakfast in the morning during the week and when i go to school i drink my yupp, or eat my fruits at about 10:20, i eat my vegetables and eat my yogurt at 11:55 and for supper my mom makes healthy things ( sheperets pie, stew, (we dont eat a lot of junk) )… i reallllly want to loose weight like about 10 pounds… Help
!
My last hope is to stop eating, … because i know i could loose weight by only eating a apple and a yogurt a day. but i know it’s bad…any idea?
kp-26@hotmail.com
HAHAHHAHAH! That is your lost
your problem is that your not eating breakfast. dont wait until almost noon to put something in your body. the first thing you should do when u wake up is drink a big glass of water, then eat some fruit and a healthy higher protein lower carb breakfast, such as eggs, steel cut oats with almond butter, a little honey, cinnamon, greek yogurt, ect. Stay away from cereal its full of sugar. i dont care how healthy some cereal claims to be its processed and full of SHIT! 80% of weight loss is DIET CONTROL! so your obviously doing something wrong. your not terribly over weight at 152. SHEPARDS PIE IS NOT HEALTHY! its loaded with potatoes which is heavy starchy food = you will not lose weight eating this. load up on veggies and protein for lunch that way you wont crash and be hungry later in the day example big salad with chicken. and dont drench it in dressing, think olive oil and balsamic vinegar. add as much veggies as you want. snack on string cheese (the low fat kind), raw nuts, fruit, veggies. yogurt. dinner should not be your biggest meal of the day, it should be rather light. ask ur mom to make soups, stews, chicken, BROWN rice. when she does make something that isnt always healthy, PORTION CONTROL. its ok to have some, but dont over do it and eat until your satisfied not full. also stay away from juices (full of sugar) unless u make ur own and keep your carb and salt intake in check. when u eat something try to make sure its raw! veggies, fruits, chicken, turkey, fish, beans, some red meat, nuts, yams, are going to be your best friend. hope it helps!
I would recommend increasing output as a more healthy way to do it! Interesting article & Great Job!
My height is about 5’4” and i weigh about 125 pounds. I really would like to lose about 10-15 pounds! My age is only 16 but i am working at a pool and sometimes I feel awkward because i do have that “belly” and not that thin/toned body that most of the girls at my school have. I recently dropped cheerleading so i am not getting to much exercise as i was getting so the weight is kind of just staying. i also feel that i eat too much junk food and not enough fruits/veggies/healthier meals. I don’t know what foods i should be focusing on eating and how i am supposed to loose all the weight! I also don’t feel like i have anytime anymore because of school and friends! Any advice anyone has on quick/easy ways i could look weight?
omg im the same person, i feel like shit constantly. GIRL, you are not alone! im 5’4 and i weigh around 125-128. its horrible cuz i have love handles too
give me a fken break. 5’4, at 125? …is NOT remotely overweight, get real.
Just go on atkins diet for about 2 weeks and you will lose 10 lb or more ! works for me every time haha I say every time because i keep gaining weight and then I have to lose it again but atkins diet never failed me!
Hi Visagederma…
I just read your comment about atkins diet..could you please tell me does it really works and could you please tell me where is it available.
Hi munny Atkins diet really does work, every time I need to shed few pounds I get on atkins diet. Atkins is a form of diet where you consume no or very little carbs and lots of protein for few days in a row. MY sample diet would be:
Breakfast: 4 egg whites and 1 whole egg.
Lunch: Chicken Breast
Dinner: Turkey
Yea, not a fan of the Atkins etc. the Central Nervous System (brain) runs off of carbs and carbs are your main source of energy. So if you want to lose the weight the right way, just consume at least 500-1000 calories less then you burn each day, while focusing on staying away from the wrong foods. (Anything white, which means rice, pasta etc.) and watch your portioning. Eating every 2-3 hours instead of 2-3 times a day is a much better way to eat and will help your stomach naturally shrink. Make sure you are adding cardio and strength training with weights as well. If you do all of this, you should lose up to 1-2 lbs. a week the right way, while gaining energy, stamina, strength, and muscle, along with increasing your overall performance in the gym or where ever you work out. Don’t forget to stretch each day to increase flexibility, range of motion, energy, and overall performance, not to mention stretching helps avoid injury and soreness. Hope this all helps.
Thank you so much for the information.Could you please tell me..in this diet do you eat fruits or you completely avoid it. I stay in India and i am just trying to prepare my diet correctly so that i can loose weight.
It would be really great full if you can help me in this and suggest me about the diet plan.
Please do needfull.
Thank You…
Im 24 an hav 3 children two born by c_sections i got sterilised after last one due to majour health problems including bk n knee problems. I weigh in at 15stone n im only 5’1 someone please help me shead 4-5 stone i was a a size 8-10 before i had kids now im a 18-20 sometimes can get into a 16 but wud b happy at a 12-14 please help i am desprate my weight is makin my depression worse
Terri, I know how you feel. I have 3 kids and I gained most of the weight with my last one. I tried everything to lose weight but had no sucess. Just eat healthy and exercise. I was so depressed for a long time and I just stopped eating. I ended up in the hospital because I stopped eating for 11 days to be exact. You are young, and you can lose the weight by just being active. Play with your kids, walk with them, ride bikes, even play at the playground with them and you will drop those pounds sooner than you think. Enjoy them and focus on them and you will soon notice all the weight just coming off. That’s what I did. Unfortunately, I know that after 30 it is harder to lose weight so I of course go to the gym as often as I can.
Priscilla
What exercises should we do at home too THT helps actually lose 3 lbs in 1/2 weeks?!
mix pilates with cardio 3 days a week. Don’t eat startchy things. Instead eat veggies and drink PLENTY of water
Good Luck!
DRINK MILK! Reduced fat, or lowfat if you can bare it, but the protien intake is good and make sure the milk you drink is also fortified with vitamins A and D. This will help your muscles before and after you work out and coat you stomach and what not making food easier to pass and digest through. Eat six small balanced meals a day keep your metabolism going. You should limit what you drink to water, milk, and unsweeted 100% fruit/vegetable juice. Also cut sugar intake to little to none, and stop eating fast food! Im 5’9, and weigh 135, and thats still after having a baby just only months ago. I was 118 prior to having my son, but the weight I am now is much healthier, though Its good to still want to tone your self and be in better shape, just dont let your weight become a dibilitating mental state.
As a woman ( so they tell me) at 25, I can tell you of a fantabulous way to lose weight quickly. CLEAN! Make house chores work for you. Climb those stairs with a vacuum. Works wonders. I recently got married (5-1-10) and was 235 5’6 . I got laid off in Jan of 2010 and in Feb received my final fitting on my wedding dress. Size 18w. You talk about gross feeling! My gawd I felt like a frickin cow. Thank goodness my grandmother is a seamstress, bc she had to take up my wedding dress four sizes! No kiddin folks. My mom told me a long time ago that an object in motion stays in motion. At 23-24 yeah I stl felt pretty but my body physically ached, I was tired all the time, and got every cold that I came in contact with. The only bit of info that I learned is that overweight people have stronger bones, so I had that going for me i guess. I now weigh in at 172 and can fit in AE jeans for the first time. I am confident, and it helps me succeed in day to day. I drank tons of water and ate less, but it was because we had no money! Now we are doing quite well but I remember that pain and I don’t want to go back there ever. Remember folks, clean. It’s good for you, helps you build muscle and you have a wonderful sense of accomplishment when finished. Water, and a blissfully clean house. Break a sweat. Let it fall over your brow and smile.
Thank you for the info. Will come in very handy
Honestly, you don’t have to be a vegetarian or even eat a lot of vegetables to lose weight. Drink plenty of water (A good goal would be 60 oz. or so), avoid being a rambling eater (walking around and eating some random food every now and then), and most importantly, MODERATION. Nothing is good for you in high amounts. White bread gives you NOTHING good; switch to Whole Grain. It’s the simple things that will help you lose weight, not just eating less meat and more vegetables. I for one lost nearly a pound a day for two weeks when I started drinking water and quit eating sugary foods.
I’m sorry but that’s the kind of BS people don’t wanna listen, loosing a pound a day for two weeks. Sorry it doesn’t work that way, there’s no way you can create a calorie deficit of 3500 Calories in a day, it is far more believable if you lost a pound a week and that’s far more healthy. I agree that eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly along with drinking a lot of water is the right way.
Actually, if Damian had been retaining a LOT of water, it’s possible for him to have lost a pound a day if he started drinking more water and subsequently peeing more.
I am supposedly 5 foot 1 and weigh 135 lbs now I am on the verge of joining the airforce and I need to lose about 3-5 lbs for my upcoming physical ..I am very active and eat fruits and veggies routinely..and drink alot and i mean alot of water..what am I doing wrong..?
Your problem is most likely that muscle weights a ton. So if you are eating right and excersing, ultimately you are also building more and more muscle therefore you will probably weigh more.
Most people are fixated on the wrong thing. Unless you are obese, the right measure is not your weight but it’s the body fat index, that is far more relevent. Also if you are exercising regularly remember you are burning calories and thereby fat, also at the same time you are building lean muscle, so don’t be disappointed if your weight is constant or even up slightly. The biggest improvement I saw with 4 yrs of regular exercising my fat index dropped to 16-17% (at age 49) from 24-25 without a significant reduction in weight.
I am 5’2 and I weigh 130, I have tried cutting down on my intake and drink a lot of water and still can’t seem to drop 10 pounds I’ve gained.. I recently had surgery and my weight starting going up, even though it’s 10 pounds I can feel it. I just don’t want the weight to get out of hand. I’ just started getting some kind of exercise so I am hoping that the weight will start dropping soon. Good luck to everyone out there,
I am 5′ 9″ and weigh in at about 160…. I have gained 10 pounds in the past 6 months, after i came back from a mission trip. I am only 14 but am veering toward joining the Navy sometime in my future. You said you were eating lots of vegetables and drinking a ton of water, but if you are doing alot of muscle workouts that may include running, weight lifting, pushups, etc. you may simply be substituting fat pounds for muscle pounds. I have had a few problems with this in the past. I used to weigh 195!!!! But went on a crazy workout and diet plan. Once I got down to a happy 150, i still wanted to loose a little pooch on my stomach. So i started doing wight lifting and muscle working, and ended up not loosing any weight, just substituting fat for muscle……. SO if you are doing alot of muscle workouts. Try doing some interval ( cardio and muscle ) training 3 to 5 times a week. But stick to tons of water and veggies and keep your eye on your goal. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Ok I need help I really want to lose 10-15lbs before my homecoming gets here! I just graduated from college a year ago and I need to get this 15lbs off in 2months. I love carbs that’s probably my main problem and movie theater popcorn : ). I need to lost 15lbs of fat or either I need to turn that fat into muscle what can I do you guys? I know I will see my ex when I’m there all of the other lames I used to talk too! I also want to “stunt” on a few girls who always hated on me back in college. If I come back 15lbs lighter I know I can do it!!!!! help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello everyone.
So my story is a little different than everyone’s here, yet still some hoe relate-able.. What makes it really different is that I am 6 foot 1 and most of the comments here are from people 5’5” and under who weigh 120 and would like to weigh 110. I am 145(ish) and would like to weigh 130. It sound like a lot, but it looks good on me. I used to have a flat belly (no boobs) with thinner thighs, and teenytiny love handles. But they were cute. Now, Im working on a bit of a pot belly and the inside of my thighs touch. My love handles are also a grabbable. Though this is their intended use, I could do without them. Help..?
Wow I’m 6’0 and I weigh 195 I just want to get down to 165 why do you want lose so much weight r u a model or something?

Yeah, well I was and I want to get back into it and it is a very critical industry. That’s what the general public doesn’t understand about modeling.. Most girls you see in Magazine Ads are not there to set any sort of standard for what should be the norm in American girls. Definitely not something a 130lb 5’6” girl should kill herself to be because 1.) They want you tall!! The taller, the better! So even if you have a cute face and a nonstop work ethic, it wont matter if you lose weight because that wont make you legs any longer! 2.) It is a highly competitive industry! If you are already self-conscious prepare to have your ego shattered because flaws will be pointed out on you that you did not even know existed on anyone! So basically, in order to meet the industry’s standards, you have to be lanky, flawless freak of nature who is constantly striving for a level of perfection that cannot be naturally reached by 99.89% of the public.
But anywayyyyy,
(Sorry for the rant, dont hurt me :-X )
Im trying to get myself back to having that option to model because as Im getting older, I see the window of opportunity getting a little bit smaller. At 20 years old, this could be my last chance! Im trying to lose about 10-15lbs, and I cant seem to lose it as easily as my coworkers. All they have to do is cut out soda and bread, and BOOM 8 lbs in 2 weeks gone. I cut out soda in February, but I love juice. Cranberry, orange, apple, grape.. Im such a juice fiend. I cut out real bready-breads (no more bread bowls at Panera
) About 2 months ago and havent seen any real changes! Maybe its because I still take in other carbs like oatmeal, pasta, and crackers?
I cut out real sugary foods as well.. I havent eaten a candy bar in 6 months, and I cant say its gotten any easier passing them up in the check out line.
Consuming alcohol has slowed down from 10 beers every 2 days to 5 beers one night a week
and going out to eat has slowed down to once a month.
So even with my moderated diet, No soda, No bread, No candy, I still havent manged to lose the 10lbs Ive been tyring to lose since April! Well.. I have stayed completely true to no bread.
What can I do to speed up this process? Im trying to lose this by Christmas or sooner!
Thank you!
Okay… it’s not just as simple as counting calories.
The best way to lose weight is to minimize your sodium, sugar (fruit included) and carb intake and eat more lean protein and water-rich veggies. Sure, 2000 calories is 2000 calories – but if those calories are made up of sugars and carbs, your body will retain more water and you will not reach your weight loss goals as quickly. A high intake of carbs and sugars affect your workouts, as well. Rather than burning the fat that is stored in your body (which is what you want), your body will instead focus on burning the glucose that the carbs and sugars have created. The calorie burning process isn’t going deep enough.
Proteins are stored and expended more efficiently by your body, and are a MUST if you are exercising regularly. Proteins help build the muscles you need to exercise safely. Increased muscle in turn increases your metabolism, which maximizes the amount of calories your body burns *naturally*. Proteins turn your body into its own well-oiled machine. Healthy, lean proteins are poultry, lean ground beef (90%+), fish, bison, venison…
You don’t have to cut carbs and sugars altogether, just allow proteins to make up the majority of your caloric intake.
If you plan on being on a high-protein diet for a long period of time, or forever, PLEASE make sure your meat is hormone and antibiotic-free. Ingesting all of that garbage can wreak havoc on your endocrine system and immune systems in the long run, which will have a negative affect on your weight loss and overall health.
*Steps of soap box*
Best advice, totally agree, well said.
Ok, if you really want to drop weight and keep it off your gonna have to work hard, and Kathaz I feel really bad for you, hope it works out. I myself have been skinny all my life, though I’m twelve right now, around 5″1inch, and I weigh around 85 lbs, my two brothers and I are in CC (cross country) my fourteen year old brother was overweight, not horrible, but maybe 10-20 lbs, after a season of cc (around 2 months) he lost around 30 lbs, not counting what went to muscle, he really slimmed down. But, it’s not just running, set a routine for yourself, once a week take a day off, once a week do weight lifting as well, and two of the three days left should contain a 1-2 mile speed run, go as fast as u can, DON’T give up, and do ur best to do better next time, don’t be disappointed if you don’t go faster. Also, Try to stick to the diets many others have said, do five miles each day you run, and each night before you go to bed do 50 crunches. Since your skinny you’ll lose about half as much as my brother did. But trust me, it works, I even shaved a few lbs, and gained a LOT of leg muscle, careful, if you go off from building up and sustaining leg muscle, you’ll lose it in a few weeks, and leg muscles, in my opinion, look great on people. I love my legs, lol. Hope it works for you, and I do know it’s past Christmas but, for anyone who wants to lose weight, this is the way to go.
Try cross training, too. Good luck!
I will kill to lose 115! i really need to
what would you guys say about someone who’s 5’7″ and 129-130 lbs like me?
I’m a 15 year old girl soon to be 16 next week and I’m 5’2. I weigh 120 pounds but used to be 117. I really want to lose 10 pounds but I don’t know how I gained weight. I eat 2 meals a day breakfast and dinner and I sometimes go on the treadmill for half hour. I’m also in taekwondo which is intense training in days a week. So how did I gain weight? I admit I don’t drink enough water but I’m trying more. I don’t eat much junk food anyways so what is it?
Please help
Hi Rachel,
I’m 16 years old and 5’2″ as well and I weigh close in range to you. 117 – 120 is a pretty safe weight range for us shorties, and with all the exercise you get, your recent gain was probably muscle, since muscle weighs more than fat. If it wasn’t, then amp up the number of vegetables and fruits in your diet and maybe even add something small in for lunch to regulate your metabolism a little more.
Hope this helps!
You need to be lunch. I know it seems like that would only make you gain weight, but skipping meals actually has the reverse effect because it slows your metabolism down. This is especially true if you work out that much. Good luck!!
u honestly dont need to lose weight. ur bmi is 21.9 and the maximum healthy bmi is 24.9 so honestly there shouldnt be any worries. go with bmi not how u look. if ppk make comment on ur look in a way thats about ur weight then theyre most likely jealous actually.
@ rachel ^
You aren’t eating enough meals, you should consume all the food you eat in one day in 6 meals, not 2! Think of putting food into your body like a fireplace. When you put a large log in there and let it sit there, the whole thing will not get burned as quickly. The whole log doesn’t even burn, leaving large chunks behind (like fat). If you slowly put small pieces of wood, they get devoured by the fire and no chunks are left behind. Drink 15 glasses of water a day; it will keep you hydrated, speed your metabolism, and most importantly, fight off several cancers and diseases.
Additionally, just because someone is skinny, does not mean they are healthy. I am 5’10″ and I weight 187 pounds and have a large belly. I eat very healthy, drink plenty of water, and work out for nearly 2 hours every second day, and a half hour on the day I’m not weight training. I feel very healthy, am very strong and can out run lots of people. However, I still have fat and look chubby.
JUST because a person is skinny, DOES NOT mean they are healthy. I am way more healthy than my doctor, well at least that’s what my blood shows.
ughh…I’m 4 feet 11 inches and I weigh 98 pounds… Its not that I care that deeply about my weight but I’m short so I feel fatter than normal… My thighs are huge! I exercise a lot and eat balanced meals but i still don’t look the way I want to look. I feel so defeated…
Don’t worry about anything i am as well 4 feet 11 inches and im only 14 (male) and i am 125lbs. your weight is perfect don’t worry!
I NEED OPINOS IAM 54 I AM 150 PONDS WORK AT A OFFICE IM TRYN LOSE 10 PONDS ITS HARD CUZ I DRINK ON WEEKENDS AND I HAVE TO DRINK ON WEEKENDS CUZ ITS PART OF MY FUN I NEED LOSE 10 PONDS I DONT LIKE VEGIIES WHATS A GOOD DIET WITH OUT STOP TO DRINK OR IS THAT INPOSSIABLE
trust me on this one: if you want to lose the weight, you need to make some changes. Alcohol is one of the worst things to have when you’re trying to lose weight. Not simply because of the calories in the drink (although those do add up quickly when you count 4-5 drinks) but because of what alcohol does to your metabolism. As a depressant, alcohold slows everything down, and your metabolism can’t do it’s job. Believe me, I was a bartender once who had anywhere from 2 to 8 drinks a day. Alcohol completely wipes out all your hard work. When I’m trying to lose weight, I’ll still allow myself one glass of wine with dinner because I really enjoy it, but that’s it. You must make some changes if you want to see results.
As for the veggies, find something you like, or find new ways to prepare vegetables that make them more delicious. If you’re going to lose weight, green, leafy stuff is still the best option.
Last, once you lose the weight, you can enjoy yourself a bit more, drink a little more on the weekends, and still maintain a good weight as long as you continue to exercise and eat reasonably. Remember, there’s a difference in how you need to eat if you want to lose weight rather than maintain. Losing it is the harder part and requires some sacrifice. My advice is to lose the weight as fast as you can too, eating reasonably and exercising, which will allow you to go back to more normal habits quickly. The longer you’re on a ‘program’, the more craving you will have to binge, either while you’re still trying to lose the weight or even once you reach your goal.
Okay, first of all NO, you do NOT need to drink on weekends. You arent old (and never ever tell yourself that)!!! Almost anywhere you look, one of the first things they tell you is to “Drink more water, watch your calories, and completely stop any alcohol intake”. You may think that “Oh, only beer is bad for me because it has yeast” But do not be tricked… You would be surprised of the number of calories in those Margaritas you have on the weekends with your girlfriends. So if you really put your mind to wanting to loose weight, you are going to have to make sacrifices. Now im not saying you have to drink water and only water for the weight to come off, but water, unsweetened iced tea and hot tea are great too. Remember that excercise, willpower, and eating the right foods are key in trying to loose weight. (But i also want you to remember that the clearer the liquids you drink, the healthier they are for you. But remember i am not talking about alcohol)…….
I completely agree with you that “The math doesn’t lie”. Every time you create a calorie deficit of 3500 calories you will lose one pound. That happens every single time with no exception. That’s why I always find it disturbing when people say that they are not losing weight despite not eating anything all day. This is completely impossible! The only possible explanation is that they are not actually creating a calorie deficit. Maybe they eat more calories or maybe they burn less calories than they think.
There is one very plausible reason for this – hypothyroidism, where your thyroid does not produce enough of the hormone you need to keep your metabolism functioning. It’s actually quite common, especially among women.
Also, if people are creating too big a calorie deficit (i.e. eating less than 1200 calories) their bodies will go into starvation mode and hang on to everything. It will pull energy from your body’s fat stores, but only the bare minimum to keep your body functioning, and this can only for a few days without causing permanent damage to organs and metabolism.
Hypothyroidism simply reduces your metabolic rate by up to 40%. You still burn calories and you still can lose weight. The only way to completely stop burning calories is to die. The same thing applies to “the starvation mode”. If your body goes into starvation mode, your metabolism will be reduced, but it will not stop. It can’t stop. Even if you don’t eat anything, your brain, kidneys, liver and heart will still consume energy. If the starvation mode stopped weight loss, you would see anorexic people or starving people in Africa that were still fat. If you are not losing weight, the most probable cause is that you are consuming more calories than you should.
Hypothyroidism may be common but in reality it can be controlled medically – my daughter takes medication every day, is 4’11 and weighs 90lbs. She also exercises regularly and eats a healthy diet high in fibre, protein, fruits and vegetables and low in fat. Less than 5% of overweight and obese people suffer from an endocrine or enzyme disorder. Most people simply eat too much and exercise too little.
@ katecotros- I am not sure why either but I calculate everything I eat, I work out 1 to 1.5 hours 6 days a week and I just cant drop the 10lbs. I have had my thyroid checked and it is over active- yet another reason that I should be able to take of the pounds. I am 50 years old of which people are telling me that is a big part of my problem but it cant just be age . I use the Lose It calculator to calculate my food and my exercise so I know that I am vey close to actual in and out calories. If anyone has any suggestions I am willing to try.
I’m 5’3, 117lbs… I feel gross. I just want to lose it all (10 pounds of it at least) as quickly as possible without going back to my “regular diet” of just not eating anything for many days..
Are you serious? 5’3 and 117 and you feel gross? Im 5’4 and wiegh 134 right now and I look great BUT I need to lose 5 pounds or so to lean up. I would KILL to weigh 117 but never will. Soooo, not to discount your wt issues because most women have them, BUT you are thin and should be pretty content with that number, in my opinion.
im about 129 and want to lose 10 of it if i only weighed 117 id be happy
a
Your target weight should be 128 pounds. Look if you really want to lose weight I wouldn’t if I were you but if you do here is a routine.
1. Get 8 hours of sleep. (if you are 5’4 you lose 500 calories when you sleep 8 hours yours might be a little less:
2. When you eat, eat the healthiest part of the meal first so if you get full you won’t get the fatty stuff
3. burn at least 100 calories a day
a. jog for 25 minutes or hulla hoop for 15 minutes
4. drink a lot of water (if your hungry but you’ve had all your meals drink water instead so you will feel full)
Hope this helps.
I’d kill to weigh that! 117!
Hey, Sara,
I’m also 5’3″ and 117 and I get it. Most of my life I’ve never weighed more than 110 and I’d love to get back there. I’m pretty small boned, so anything over 110 just feels gross. My personal ideal weight – where I feel the best – is 108 but as I’m turning 50 this fall, it is really hard to lose the weight, no matter what I do.
I know there are others out there who would love to get to 117, but there are also others who would love to get to 129, 134 etc. We all have our personal (and, hopefully, they are realistic) goals, so let’s be supportive of each other!
im 5’3″ahalf i always been 105 / even after i had 4 kids /i went back to 120/ but when i moved to the country it sucked there is nothing to do / iv gained 40 pounds .i be happy if icould get back 120.
How far apart do you/someone suggest I space my 5-6 meals. Currently I am a student and my day starts around 6am. I am in school 735-205. I walk from school to home which takes me 25 minutes, so I get home always around 230. Somedays I work as a cashier, my work schedule is variable and unpredictable, but other than that I am not in a position where I cannot plan accordingly. On days I do not have work I go to the gym between 5-7pm on the weeknights and between 10-1 on Saturdays where I do an hour of cardio and about 20 minutes of weights. I go to the gym/workout at LEAST 3 days a week, 6 max (because by gym is closed on Sundays). I usually go to bed around 11pm-12. Sorry this is so long, I just have a HUGE isssue with meal planning and I don’t know what is right/works and I’ve tried multiple things and they all seem to fail so if someone could just tell me what to do, I’d be much better off than just “by myself” as I am much more obliged to adhere to a plan if it set forth or directed by another. So please, your suggestions are much appreciated! Thanks in advance! (P.S. I get most hungry when I get home from school around 3pm and I get really hungry again late at night, which I know is really bad because I tend to just eat whatever and in large quantities, even though eating healthfully isn’t much of an issue as I am a vegetarian as is).
The whole 6 meal a day thing was created by supplement companys to help sell there protien shakes, 3 meals 3 shakes makes it easy for us to get in 6 meals a day, however they are expensive and dont taste that great! when it comes to weight loss the most important thing is a calorie deficite eat under your maintenance and you will loose weight you can do this by eating 2 3 4 5 or 6 times a day say for instance if your plan allowes 1400 calories a day spread that over your meals for the day and you will loose weight it really dosent matter how often you eat i like big meals not snacks so i eat 2 – 3 meals a day and i have lost 35 lbs!!! exercise also as much as possable outside the gym….walk, take the stairs, clean your home, it all burns calories if you have cravings have it once a week or incorporate into your calories for the day hope this helps

im 5’3 and 120 lbs..i used to b 105 and i looked fine..i just dont seem to loose weight no matter how hard i try..what to do
i want to loose 15 lbs so whats the best combination of diet and exercise for me to loose all this weight in 3 months or so?
I should say that is very important to be consistent. Every day, every week, if you do everything right, you will lose the weight. My mother of 67 was 275 pounds and 4’10″, she is now 110 pounds! She did it in less than a year. How she did it? Once she started, she didn’t stop. No bread or sugart, her diet consisted mostly of Fish and vegetable and specially consistency.
I have been where you are. I was 110 pounds before having my children and I am 5’2″. I have been trying to lose weight and am stuck. I can say that sometimes your body finds a weight where it is happy and does its own thing.
It’s easy to shed off those pounds that you are carrying with you… If you just stick with a diet plan and serious on losing weight…
nice article, all pretty basic stuff. i have 10 extra pounds or so i’d like to lose, so i recently started exercising a lot more. i do high intensity aerobics for about an hour three times a week, and lift weights and do some moderate cardio for about a half an hour twice a week with two days to rest. doing this for about 5 weeks and drinking a lot more water, i’ve lost about 3.5 pounds. not a huge loss, but i don’t have a whole lot to lose. at first i was discouraged that the loss was so slow, but i know muscle weighs more than fat, so it’s probably not the best measure of my efforts. i think it helps to not be so obsessed with the number on the scale, and focus more on how your body feels and how your clothing fits. i’ve only lost a few pounds, but i’ve almost shed a whole pants size… so something is working!
Great point on your article. Actually there is a lot of way to lose belly fat, as long as you have a strong motivation on yourself you will lose it. And one more things, stick on what you doing..
This was a great article. The information seems so basic but so many people who are trying to lose weight aren’t doing really the simple necessary steps it takes to get it done. For me, I was able to lose 10lbs in the last 9 weeks just by replacing my breakfast with a simple and delicious shake. I still eat the ice cream and pizza and everything else I love (although I’ve never been one to go overboard) and this weight loss has been without exercise. If you click my name u can find out more in my blog. The main thing is you need to take action cause the weight won’t come off on its own. Support is there too if you ask for it! I wish everyone success in their weight loss goals. You can do it!
Good article about how to lose weight the simple way. I would recommend increasing output as a more healthy way to do it! Great job!
Im 5’4 and at 100 pounds. Im pretty proportional but if you re dieting and not losing any weight, i suggest that you eat slowly. Research has shown that people who eat slowly tend to eat less. So for breakfast if you slowly eat half a grapefruit, youll probly lose 5 pounds in about 12 days. trust me, eating slowly really works!
im 5’4 and im always between 135 and 140…i never seem to loose weight no matter how hard i try..do u know any easy thing to do to loose weight…all of my cusin are skinny and have great body..im the one whos always called a pig and made fun of..all my family member tell me im fat…i just need to loose a few pounds so i can feel a liltle comfortanle with my self
i want to loose 10lb. how many calories i need to eat a day?
I started with a 1,300 and i lost 7 pounds in two weeks but i splured and regained it in two week so if you keep with it and exersicing it will work, once youve lost the weight and want to maintain your weight eat 1,500 calaories a day and if you exceed be sure to work it off.
I personally eat less than 1000 calories a day, but most of my diet is made up of vegetables, which are hardly any calories and tons of energy and vitamins if you eat the right one. If you really want to lose weight, I suggest that you eat lots of vegetables and fruits and drop some of the breads and heavy meats. It works
Also, exercise for half an hour at least 3-4 times a week. I lost 10 lbs that way and I am loving it.
Hope this helps!
Don’t eat under 1000 calories per day, for the love of god. Especially not if you’re young. I did that for almost a year, and it stunted my growth pretty thoroughly; now, I eat about 2000 per day for maitnenance, I’ve grown 3 inches and I haven’t gained a pound, oddly enough. You will flat-out need at least 1500 if you’re under 20 for growth, and any less will effect you negatively and make maintaining that amount very difficult. That whole “starvation mode” thing isn’t a myth, either–I went from 800 calories to 1600 calories and LOST weight.
Stay healthy. What works for one person won’t necessarily work for another.
The main key to losing 10 pounds or more is to change your eating habits. We all eat stuff that we know is not good for us…but you just have to find that balance.
One thing that helped me out in the beginning was to get rid of all of the bad food that I had stashed all around the house. Doing this “really changed my life around. I lost over 80 pounds and this was the most important thing that I did.
The longer I went without eating the junk foods the more they just didn’t taste right anymore. I would recommended anyone that is trying to lose weight to give this method a try.
Here is a list of all of the healthy food that I started eating that made a big difference.
Is it harder to go from 115 to 105? I know it already sounds light, but I’m 5 feet tall, and it’s dissproportionate. But like I asked, is it harder to loose weight when you don’t have alot to lose?
Im 15 years old and 189lb’s… bad, right? but sense the beginning of the year, ive stopped drinking soda and all i drink is water (tons of it) i have been trying so hard to stay away from bad food, at the beginning of the year i weighed 194 so ive only lost 6 pounds in 3 months. I hoping to atleast lose 30 pounds by the end of the year but at this rate, its not gonna happen, any suggestions?
First off, I advise believing in yourself completely. Confidence in yourself and belief that you can accomplish your goal is an invaluable step to the weight loss process.
Monitoring your caloric intake is also very important. 1200-1400 calories a day is a substantial amount and it will keep you going.
Exercise like 3 or 4 times a week, half an hour each time. Running, walking, aerobic dance, swimming, it doesn’t matter. If you like it, it will make it more fun and the pounds will be shed.
Finally, vegetables! They are superfoods. If you eat the right ones (my favorites are pea pods and tomatoes), then they take more calories to chew than they have in them. They are chock full of nutrients and vitamins, and taste very good when fresh. They keep that daily caloric intake down as well.
I wish you the best of luck!
Hope this helps.
Ohh…So simple I want to lose weight cuz i wanna look so pretty and i wanna look healthy =D So….Exercise is so IMP for losing weight am i right ?
I would suggest cutting your meals into 5 or 6 smaller meals spread through out the day if possible. Eating as much veggies and fruits with lean farm fed animal meats as possible. Cutting the calories as you already have is great but you should spread them out to boost the metabolism. This is what I did, I weighed in at 286 lbs. 15mnths ago and now I weigh in at 126 lbs. today. And the only exercise I get is walking through wal-mart and maybe some light stretching because I have fibromyalgia and to much exercise puts me down for days. lol I hope this helps you, Jessica. If you ever want to talk just let me know and I will be her for you.
Just curious how you got the last 20 off Im having a hard time….Trying to eat as you suggested as well and getting out to work out only 2 times a week (hard core one hour each)
okay..
i’m lost. i am about 160lbs, i work out about 4 times a week (weights and cardio for about an hour each session), i work part time as a server where i walk constantly almost 8 hours per shift, and my meals are sitting at about 1200-1300 calories for the day. I haven’t lost weight pretty much at all and I’m starting to go nuts. i drink soooo much water and i feel like i’m doing all of the right things to lose weight but i’m at a standstill. if i need to change more it is eating more often (i usually just eat 3 meals a day). any other suggestions?? help!!
Jessica, have you considered a change, such as routine of exerecises, perhaps even exercising in the morning. I’m the same weight as you, with a few years of regular exercising cardio and weights, I’ve certainly seen reduction in fat and have gained muscle mass, weight almost being constant. Try going lower weights for a few weeks with higher reps, perhaps your body has gotten used to the routine you have.
If you want to lose 10 pounds quickly try to exercise in the morning and also in the evening. This will greatly increase your metabolism!
I need to loose 10 lb.. I am 4. 11 and big boned.. i have a question.. do i need to just run in a initial phase because I dont my arms and leg look like a stalk if I do strength tonign also.. i love workign out and I started 1.5 miles and 2 miles in a tread mill ( I jog).. please advice… i am eating right 6 meals a day .. veggies.. good fruits … good carbs and water
This question is for Rhonda. How are you measuring your results? Just keep in mind that if you are using a scale for measuring muscles weigh more than fat so if the scale is showing an increase then this could be a good thing. It would mean that you are burning fat and building muscles.

it sure worked for me and my brother
Yes it is difficult because of our problems with will power. Everyone wants to make change but it is difficult to do if you are not on task all the time
I agree it’s pretty simple. The hard part is just doing it! I like writing down my goals and sticking them everywhere. fridge, mirrors, even the front door so I remember on my way out.
If you are trying to lose 10 pounds you must speed up your metabolism by eating 5 small meals every day. Just remember to just eat enough to keep yourself going.
Most of us just eat entirely too much food and wonder why….we are not loosing any weight. Find out which steps you should take to start loosing weight.

oh, I walk for at least 35 minutes per day..sorry left that off
I have been eating right (under 1200 calories and 25 fat grams per day) and walking (@135 steps per minute) for 6 weeks. I can’t lose any weight. Any suggestions?
that is why.. you are consuming less calories that you should be. At minimum, you should eat at least 1200 calories. Don’t deprive your body from the nutrients it needs!!
1. Do not snack
2. Do not eat after 7pm
3. Eat Protein that is appropriate for your blood type..
Voola!!!!
Their are some simple things that you can do that will help you get rid of those 10 pounds. You will want to make sure that you are cutting back on processed sugar and especially those sugary drinks!
You will also want to eat smaller meals, because when you do this you will see the difference in your waistline and also your weight.

still very hard for me to lose weight when following these rules maybe im not really ready lol.
An excellent way to help in fat loss while weight training is to super hydrate with ice cold water. This process will help burn fat in that drinking a gallon of water within a 14 hour period.
Since it takes energy to bring the ice cold water to core temperature as it is consumed , calories will be burned off in this process. 1 gallon of ice water requires 123 calories of heat energy to warm it to core body temp.
Also since the liver’s main function is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy, it could be very well minimized if the kidney function is hampered by dehydration calling on the liver to flush out the stored fat needed to metabolize into this enrgy.

it sounds so simple, but yet most people strugle with losing weight.
I need to lose 15 pounds in order to join the military, how can i achieve this in the shortest amount of time possible, i already run for about 30 mins a day and do dips as well as pushups since i do not have access to gym equipment.
10 pounds is pretty easy to shed for most. Lots of exercise, a high fiber diet and caloric restriction [1500 calories max daily] seems to do the trick for me if I’m looking to lose a few LB’s.
Thank-you,easy to understand.
Very simple logic, but you have to have the will to achieve it.
Very simple logic. Either decrease input or increase output to reduce the fat.
really simple science
CptG,
i think that was the simplest way i have ever herd of how to lose wieght and it makes perfect sense.
To be able to lose a minimum of 1 pound a week, there’s a simple formula that you must follow.
First, know that 3500 calories equals to one pound. If there are 7 days in a week you can focus on decreasing 500 calories on a daily basis. Now you can either decrease 500 from food, 500 from exercise or 250 from both; food and exercise.
Decreasing 250 calories from food and exercise would be the best option since this will help you lose body fat and increase your lean muscle at the same time.
It’s a pretty simple schedule, but if you can decrease a minimum of 500 calories a day you’ll see 1 pound gone each week!
Double that amount per day and you’ll see a decrease of 2 pounds a week!
That’s how simple and easy it is to shed 1-2 pounds a week!
And in a months time you can see a decrease of upto 8 pounds…
Wow I never thought of that!
I’m 116 lbs, 5’2, 16 year old girl. I have a lot of water retention because I don’t drink enough water. I don’t know how to get into the habit…
The thing is I don’t eat as much as the average person. I barely eat any junk and I mostly eat vegetables and lots of fruits. A typical meal would be breakfast: oatmeal, lunch: a whole wheat small sandwhich, dinner: a chicken salad. That’s it! And then for exercise I walk an hour a day, have 2 taekwondo classes a week and am currently taking dance class which is 1 hr 30 min. I reaaallly want to lose 10 lbs I just can’t seem to an I don’t know why
Rachel,
For your height, weight and level of physical activity you’re beyond healthy. Don’t waste time worrying about losing weight and just enjoy your life as a young person because you’re only young once and you don’t want it to pass you by because you were too busy worrying.
Best of luck!
