This is one of those kind of crazy questions but interesting at the same time, How to lose 100 pounds.

If you are very over how would you lose 100 pounds in one year? Well I have never had to lose 100 pounds but am up for the challenge of how it can be done.

Can you lose 100 pounds in a year?

how to lose 100 poundsFor more information on picking a diet and workout plan for yourself you can visit my Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle book review or my diet program review.

First of all lets all be aware that losing 100 pounds in one year is certainly possible. Many people have achieved this feat and many will lose 100 pounds in a year in the future.

The math of losing 100 pounds in a year

There is simple math in how to lose 100 pounds in one year you would need to lose eight pounds a month for a year which is about 2 pounds for week.

Losing two pounds per week is certainly possible but the problem is that it is hard to keep this rate up for an entire year. You will find that you will lose far more than 10 pounds in your first month and then your loss will slow down after a couple of months only to pick up again in the last few months.

Do you hate cardio and still want to lose weight? This plan may be exactly what you are looking for Check it out now

Now As we all know there are two sides to the loss question: input and output that is caloric intake in eating and output when your metabolism is burning calories. This sounds easy and in fact it is an easy idea to understand and implement but it is very difficult to act on for any length of time.

Lose 100 pounds in a year plan

OK here it goes for how to lose 100 pounds in a year. First thing is to drop your caloric intake. For many people this may be really obvious but for most people it is a real education to find out what they are eating wrong and changing it.

First you will need to drop your calories that you take in probably significantly but take out some calories each week and watch how your body and energy react. Remember you are in this for the long haul not just a few weeks this time.

Your diet should get

  • 30 percent of its calories from protein,
  • 50 percent of its calories from carbohydrates and
  • 20 percent of calories from fats.

Remember fats contain twice the calories per pound that protein or carbohydrates contain so the fat level is actually quite low.

Next is to make sure that you are splitting your three main meals into six meals during the day to properly nourish your body and stop it from thinking that you are starving.

Drink lots of water. You will find that drinking a lot of water will help you lose up to 10 pounds all by itself in the first couple of weeks as your body stops being bloated and your equilibrium is reset.

Exercise to lose 100 pounds

Next is the exercise portion of your changes. Losing 100 pounds in a year just by eating correctly would be impossible as your body would quickly rebel against you.

You must get exercise for 30 minutes twice every day for six days a week. This means that some days will have cardio morning and night and some days will have one cardio workout and one workout.

The twice a day regimen is designed to keep you metabolism high all day instead of having it drop off 12 hours or so after your last workout, also having a lot of exercise will change the way that your body chemistry works.

The reason to do cardio is obvious and that is to raise your metabolism and burn calories.

How to lose 100 pounds

Doing weights is also very important as while you are losing you want to keep your muscle mass and of course muscle takes a lot more calories to maintain than fat so you will over time be burning even more calories than you are now.

The attitude that will lose you 100 pounds in a year

Lastly to lose 100 pounds in a year you need to change your entire attitude towards health, exercise, eating and your own confidence in life.

Making these changes may be very difficult but you are going to find that you have a much better chance of succeeding once you snap out of the way that you look at life and instead start to think about how your life is as a fit person.

Do you hate cardio and still want to lose weight? This plan may be exactly what you are looking for Check it out now

Stop comparing yourself to the people around you and instead join a running club or come other club that promotes health and where the idea of running 20 miles on a Sunday does not seem crazy like most people think but is instead just a fun afternoon outing.

This may seem like an oversimplification of what it takes to lose 100 pounds in a year and maybe it is.

There will be high points and low points in the next year but you will learn from your accomplishments and defeats how to change yourself as a person and make consistently1 better choices.

Good luck to you. Let me know how things are working out in your quest in how to lose 100 pounds.

  1. Hi everyone, I too need to lose about 100+ pounds. I use to be in the military and since I got out (about 4 yrs ago) I haven’t been ambitious about working out because I done so much working out when I was in. Now I look at old photos and wonder what has happen to me. I just want to look and feel like I use too. Most of all I have all the support from my husband and he ensures the work out part is going okay, now I just need to learn how to incorporate the eating right part. I just started this work out program with my husband (because he is still in the military) about 1 week ago. So far everything is going good but now I just trying to get enough information on eating right. Does any one have any good pointers on eating right because I am very picky eater?

  2. I need to lose 100lbs. I have no idea how I got to this point and have been in denial too. I keep looking at older pictures of myself trying to think of how I got to this point. I then realized that I stopped being active. I used to dance and work out all the time. I would also be the one to give advice to family members on how to lose and yet here I am now struggling the same battle. I just can’t seem to get motivated. I joined a gym and it’s been almost a year since I went. I now get paranoid of what they will think of me when I walk in…..can someone help motivate me to get off my butt……..

  3. I need to lose at least 100 lbs. I started with a personal trainer july 1st and I have only lost 15 lbs. I don’t eat right since I am a student and greasy foods are all over the campus and time is short. If anyone would like to be my email buddy that would be fantastic… I am getting the work out down but it’s the eating that is killing me.

  4. Hey! I am in the same boat. I am very much starting to realize that if I don’t do something very soon, I will be beyond the point of no return. I have right around 90-110lbs to lose, and I do admit this seems absolutely daunting. I will be an email loss buddy if you like!

  5. Hi,
My name is Lisa I need to loose 100+ pounds. I am one of those individuals that has lived in denial for a long time now. I don’t even know where to begin to turn things around since I have been on this path for so long. If anyone is willing to be a buddy and share tips and food plans that work please I would love the help. I just know if I don’t change this now I will not be here much longer.

  6. I want to get started. I think I have about 100 pounds to lose. I’m kind of shocked. I had to quit working 8 years ago because of an injury. 100 pounds just kind of crept up on me. I’ve been doing research to see what I’m up against and it seems formidable. I went to a website that talked about the five things people did who lost 100 pounds. I want to follow that advice: they all got active; they got rid of “bad” foods, they got support; they all tried some kind of loss gimmick, then slapped themselves and began to eat less and move more; and they took breaks on the loss journey.

I want to follow about a 1200 kc per day plan. I’m educating myself now to figure that out. As for activity, I have bronchitis pretty seriously now, but the moment that’s done, I want to start some interval training, starting off slow once a day, then twice a day, then increasing my times. I’d like to do that 3 to 4 times a week.

Finally, I’m looking at taking CLA for belly fat, Hoodia for appetite control and GLA (Borage Oil) I forget what for, but it seemed important when I looked it up.

Anybody out there have a comment on my plan? I can use all the help there is. Thanks KAV

  7. I would not eat peanut butter and an apple! No offense, but to me it’s a waste of calories after 6pm.. it’s 100 calories PER tablespoon for peanut butter and a small apple is also 100 calories.. .. After 6 I stick with things like – 2 tablespoons ranch veggie dip (70 calories) with unlimited celery sticks.. OR – a cup of baby dill pickles – just 35 little calories – but the crunchiness is satisfying and the sour cleanses your pallet and melts away cravings.. Sugar free jello cups – just 10 calories per cup! 1/2 cup cottage cheese with one full cup of blueberries, blackberries, raspberries or strawberries – with 1 tsp splenda added. Tastes a bit like fruity cheesecake – just 150 TOTAL tasty calories.. I’m always looking for ways to get more to eat – with the fewest calories.

I have TONS of recipes and low cal ideas.. Like – did you EVER think you could eat nachos on a diet???
I use BAKED lays tortilla chips.. 30 chips (which is a WHOLE TRAY FULL) with 1/2 cup pepper jack shredded cheese and 1/4 cup fiesta blend or colby jack blended cheese – sprinkle cheese over nachos and bake till cheese it melted.. I buy SMALL nacho trays at Sam’s Club, which makes it a little more fun for kids too – you fill the nacho cheese cup up with LIGHT daisy sour cream – it holds 4 tablespoons – place your cooked nachos in the tray (which will be PILED HIGH since its a small tray – makes you think you are getting even more, but trust me 30 chips is ALOT – I usually split it with my daughter!) and the whole thing is just 500-600 calories (depending on if you go over with the cheese or sourcream, but if u measure right ur good to go!..) Compare that to ONE serving of Nachos at Chilis – over 1,000 calories!!!

Wanna feel like you are eating more for breakfast? Buy Lenders mini bagels (not the 100 calories ones!) they are just 70 calories each.. For breakfast I often make 3, break each apart and then toast – making 6 total pieces – it covers a plate! then top each with a tsp of WHIPPED LIGHT cream cheese..
Total calories – 410 tasty calories and 6 pcs makes u super filled.. OR – have a Jimmy Dean’s DELIGHT breakfast bowl with eggs, hashbrowns, and turkey sausage (or bacon) only 240 tasty calories.. I eat this with one of the aforementioned bagels for a total of 350 calories..

If anyone needs low cal ideas. I love to help! I’ve posted my email before and again – it’s FREE to track calories and exercise on http://www.fitday.com. I love it!

  8. Mary, I may not be 50, but close…I will be 49 next February. I know that it will take a little extra something to get this going for me. I have been tracking everything I eat so that I can really understand where the issues are. At this time I am not judging, just tracking everything. If you would like a little encouragement or an email buddy on this, let me know. I am really working at getting some movement and exercise in, but am working with two bum knees, so have been sticking to the recombent bike. I would like to lose about 150#. Email me if you like. syed_lori@msn.com

  9. Hey guys,
Welcome to all the newbies that posted on this site.

Well I just wanted to write a quick update on my progress. I slowed down for a couple of weeks as stated in my last post. I realized that I am such an emotional eater! Crazy how we don’t realize the little things that made such a huge impact in our lives until we get serious about change. I use to go on these 3 day diets (never able to stick to the program in it’s entireity, what ever diet I was on) and still i never got it. I’m so glad that I have taken the time to educate myself on what the real problems are!

Ok…so I’m still reading the Becks Books. One of the tasks that helps me alot and I want to share with you guys…is she asked that we write down all the reasons why we want to lose . You write them down on a deck of cards or index cards. Every morning before you do anything you read them aloud to your self. Then you go through them a couple times a day. It really helps. It gets me in the mindset before I start my day …why I have to be so mindful of what I put in my mouth.

A few of mine are…I want to ride a rollercoaster again, not feel uncomfortable in a restaurant booth, look better and healthier, get my kids healthier…Things in that nature.

Ok…Today is the 1st of September(can you believe it?)…time to Get up and move. Say good bye to yesterday, live today and get ready for tomorrow.

    Luck to my loser buddies,
    Christina

  10. Hey guys,
I was reading you guy’s posts and I just got so inspired! I can do this!! I’m 20 years old, 5’10 and weigh about 280 lbs! Its VERY depressing… I’ve been a heavy girl my whole life, but I realize now that it doesnt have to be that way. I will start eating healthier and exercising twice a day… I’ve been on millions of diets and they’ve all been unsuccesful (obviously) But, you guys are right, I have to start looking at this as a life style change. I do not want to be fat anymore. Wish me luck! I pray i can do this!

  13. Hi, I’m trying to loose a total of 100lbs, I’m 33lbs down right now, from 230, to 197. I’m only 5’3 🙁 I once lost 75lbs in about six months from drastically upping my exercise but I don’t have the time for such a time consuming work out routine now, as I work full time and attend college. I’ve been cutting calories more this time than working out and have lost the 33lbs since May, though 11 have been in the last month. It’s so depressing to know that I’ve lost 33lbs, and to most people that’s a large amount of , but on someone my size it was a barely noticeable thing, and it’s less than a third of the total I need to loose 🙁 I’ve been using slimquick mixed berry drink to curb my appetite and to give me energy for the last week, which has caused a dramatic increase in loss, but I’m not sure if that will continue or if it was just because I had started the new plan. AnNyway good luck to y’all! 🙂

  14. Hello everyone~ I’m glad to see that a lot of you are doing so well! Keep up the good work. I on the other hand, have fallen off the wagon once again. I’ve been on this mindset since last Dec of losing 100 pounds in a year, but so much has happened. I am happy to say though, that I am getting back up and trying again. I did manage to lose 25 pounds and not gain it back, so it’s a start. I just need to keep getting back on the wagon. I sometimes find myself with too many excuses, but these “excuses” should be my reasons. I see it now. There are a lot of good ideas here and I’m going to take up on some of them and hope they work! Good luck everyone!

  16. Hi everyone, my name is Amanda. Last year I went on a loss journey to save my marriage and lost 70 pounds and still got a divorce. Started dating a man who liked large women, so I just quit. I was 320 pounds and 5′ 5″ tall. I got down to 250. I gained 20 back. I have recently started my journey again but I am not having very good luck. I started walking 2 miles a day and have been at it since Friday so 5 days and have gained instead of lost. It is frustrating me. I have cut my calorice intake drastically. I know I can do this but something is not going right this time. I have a motto it is not “diet and deprivation” but “modification and moderation”. I work full time as a cook at a nursing home and go to college full time. I feel like my head is spinning in circles. I wanted to have 54 pounds off my January 1st but at the rate I am going nothing is going to happen. I also have an attitude problem with society that they cannot accept people for who they are and not what they look like. I know it is for my health but people can just be so darn cruel. I have been heavy my entire life and to add to it I have a genetic disorder called PCOS which complicates things all that much more. I will be happy to talk to anyone who needs support just email me at adnap777@yahoo.com. Please put in the subject area support for loss so I do not delete it as junk mail.
Thank you and best of luck
    Greatly frustrated………….

  17. Hey guys,
I haven’t posted in awhile. Nela you are doing awesome. Can’t wait to check out your message board once you get it up and running. Keep us updated!

Well guys I’m still at it. I’ve been hitting the gym three times a week but i must confess that my eating habits got a little out of control these past couple of weeks. I was so stressed out. This job hunting has got me stressed out. I’ve worked all my life and can’t believe that I can’t find anything. I’ve gone to a few interviews and just don’t seem to impress interviewer. It’s really hard out there. So you young ones…Go To College and get a degree!

Anyhoo…My hasn’t gone up or down. I finally weighed my self today and it’s stuck at 245. I realized this is all in my control and I just need to do what needs to be done. When I’m stressing…and have that sudden urge to stuff my face…I need to put my attention somewhere else besides the kitchen. The good thing is, I don’t allow any junk food in the house. If my husband feels like drinking soda or snacking on junk food he needs to go the trunk of his car and get it. The same goes for my boys. So the only thing I really over eat on, is meals. And I can do enough harm with that.

I bought a book that was recommended…The Becks’s diet for Life Solution book.

I started reading it and it seems to teach a lot of lifestyle changing techniques. Such as making sure you eat every meal sitting down and enjoying your food. No rushing through a meal. And I’m suppose to make these cards called advantage cards. You list all the advantages of losing on these cards and read them through out the day. There are more tasks that need to be completed. I’m getting ready to start the book tomorrow. I’ll try to post my results.

Well, I’ll bring this post to an end. Rememeber I’m here and if any of you want to email me directly….celenasmom@live.com.
