This is one of those kind of crazy questions but interesting at the same time, How to lose 100 pounds.

If you are very over how would you lose 100 pounds in one year? Well I have never had to lose 100 pounds but am up for the challenge of how it can be done.

Can you lose 100 pounds in a year?

how to lose 100 poundsFor more information on picking a diet and workout plan for yourself you can visit my Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle book review or my diet program review.

First of all lets all be aware that losing 100 pounds in one year is certainly possible. Many people have achieved this feat and many will lose 100 pounds in a year in the future.

The math of losing 100 pounds in a year

There is simple math in how to lose 100 pounds in one year you would need to lose eight pounds a month for a year which is about 2 pounds for week.

Losing two pounds per week is certainly possible but the problem is that it is hard to keep this rate up for an entire year. You will find that you will lose far more than 10 pounds in your first month and then your loss will slow down after a couple of months only to pick up again in the last few months.

Now As we all know there are two sides to the loss question: input and output that is caloric intake in eating and output when your metabolism is burning calories. This sounds easy and in fact it is an easy idea to understand and implement but it is very difficult to act on for any length of time.

Lose 100 pounds in a year plan

OK here it goes for how to lose 100 pounds in a year. First thing is to drop your caloric intake. For many people this may be really obvious but for most people it is a real education to find out what they are eating wrong and changing it.

First you will need to drop your calories that you take in probably significantly but take out some calories each week and watch how your body and energy react. Remember you are in this for the long haul not just a few weeks this time.

Your diet should get

  • 30 percent of its calories from protein,
  • 50 percent of its calories from carbohydrates and
  • 20 percent of calories from fats.

Remember fats contain twice the calories per pound that protein or carbohydrates contain so the fat level is actually quite low.

Next is to make sure that you are splitting your three main meals into six meals during the day to properly nourish your body and stop it from thinking that you are starving.

Drink lots of water. You will find that drinking a lot of water will help you lose up to 10 pounds all by itself in the first couple of weeks as your body stops being bloated and your equilibrium is reset.

Exercise to lose 100 pounds

Next is the exercise portion of your changes. Losing 100 pounds in a year just by eating correctly would be impossible as your body would quickly rebel against you.

You must get exercise for 30 minutes twice every day for six days a week. This means that some days will have cardio morning and night and some days will have one cardio workout and one workout.

The twice a day regimen is designed to keep you metabolism high all day instead of having it drop off 12 hours or so after your last workout, also having a lot of exercise will change the way that your body chemistry works.

The reason to do cardio is obvious and that is to raise your metabolism and burn calories.

How to lose 100 pounds

Doing weights is also very important as while you are losing you want to keep your muscle mass and of course muscle takes a lot more calories to maintain than fat so you will over time be burning even more calories than you are now.

The attitude that will lose you 100 pounds in a year

Lastly to lose 100 pounds in a year you need to change your entire attitude towards health, exercise, eating and your own confidence in life.

Making these changes may be very difficult but you are going to find that you have a much better chance of succeeding once you snap out of the way that you look at life and instead start to think about how your life is as a fit person.

Do you hate cardio and still want to lose weight? This plan may be exactly what you are looking for Check it out now

Stop comparing yourself to the people around you and instead join a running club or come other club that promotes health and where the idea of running 20 miles on a Sunday does not seem crazy like most people think but is instead just a fun afternoon outing.

This may seem like an oversimplification of what it takes to lose 100 pounds in a year and maybe it is.

There will be high points and low points in the next year but you will learn from your accomplishments and defeats how to change yourself as a person and make consistently1 better choices.

Good luck to you. Let me know how things are working out in your quest in how to lose 100 pounds.

  1. I need help! I am worried about my brother. He is 47 y/o and is about 5’7″ and most likely over 450 lbs. Due to him being out of work for over a year, he has recently moved in with me. He has no idea of how to eat healthy or exercise of any type. He thinks his and eating habbits are not a serious issue and makes jokes about them. I am an insulin dependant diabetic and a very healthy eater but he refuses to make better choices. Is there a book out there I can get to motivate him to a better lifestyle?

  3. I am nearly 18 years old, and weigh about 255.
I need to loose 100 pounds within a year. I’ve been very heavy all my life, but actually haven’t been teased or ridiculed much and I have great friends.
But this is my last year of high school, and next year I am studying abroad and I don’t want this stereotype of being a fat American to follow me around, and I really want to be happy and pleased with my own self image.

When I was younger I always said, when I’m older I’ll have lost all my . Well, now I am older and I have still lose it. It needs to be now, because my future is right before me.

I know about the risks of being over, and I know for myself I need to lose it, but I still have trouble being motivated (and self control, especially when I’m hungry after school).

Please, it would really be great to have some help, and it would be great to help someone else with this too!

He has done this for 42 years and wants to continue now that he is retired. The walk was from the train to work and the reverse. He is trim and slim and healthy. I want to join him now that he is going to retire. I am hoping this will take the 100 lbs off that I gained over 36 years of marraige and three children. Has there been any success stories.

  7. Hi Chris:
I started out at 203 and am currently 171. I worked swings for 3 years while going to college, and thats when I actually started gaining all this . I finally went to counseling because it became apparent to me that I was eating out of bordem while at work, and then all my activities centered around eating. Going out to coffee with friends and ending up eating another full meal while there, huge tubs of popcorn at the movies, dinner after I would go to the gym, ect. It took awhile to understand and get the upper hand on my addiction to eating – which is what it is when women get to be as big as most of us are. And while I would do SO good at sticking to my diets for a period of time, I always ended up gaining back what I’d lost plus 10 pounds. For me, I needed to get a handle on the root cause before focusing on losing the . Its working, and I’m starting to feel great. I now go to the gym 6x a week, and I actually ENJOY it. I am very aware of the difference between being hungry, and just wanting to eat. It is what helped me the most.

    Good luck to you!

  8. Hey, my name is Chris, and I am 40. At 5’4, I am at my heaviest…250! AND, I’m a nurse- you’d think I’d know better. My dad died this year, and I have put on 15 pounds since then (January). I used to bus it to work, but I moved further away, and now drive. (11 miles).
I don’t want to feel this bad, or this bad about myself….I promise myself so many times that I will lose , get healthy, wear clothes that look nice on me, be able to get up a flight of stairs without sweating….but, working night shift, my eating patterns are odd. Any suggestions for that? I work 11p-7a. Water is boring.
I have a realistic goal to reach. 130 is my magic number. I need your support- my mom is thin, but she works at it, and she can eat what she likes. Her heart is in the right place, but she does not know how I feel- she’s never been there…..you guys have.
Thank you for any help, support, suggestions, etc…..Love and peace….Chris

  11. Hello. I’m Tammy, a 43 year old and weigh in at 260 pounds. I want to lose 100 pounds in one year. I’ve been reading a book by a popular TV show host, and I am positive I can lose this . I had neck surgery a couple of years ago and since put on about 80 pounds. I have since lost and gained about 50 pounds. I also am a smoker. I quit for 8 months and am now smoking again. I’m tired of letting myself down all the time. I need to make some serious changes to my lifestyle and my thinking. I drink too much a couple times a week as well. I like the suggestion in the article about exercising twice a day to keep up the metabolic rate. I’d never heard that before. I bought an elliptical and stuck it in front of the tv. I’m going to start out at 10 minutes 2 times a day, and add 2 minutes per day. As for the diet, I’m going to plan on losing 2 pounds per week on average. I want to weigh 160 by this time next year. I’m very excited, but I know there will be challenges. I don’t want extra skin, but I guess that’s out of my control. I know I can do this. Wish me luck.

I really want to go off to college far away so i can forget all the b/s i’ve received here and when/if i go off i want to be confident enough to make friends w/o being scared that i’m too fat and people will make fun of me for it seriously i’m going through it in my teen years which are supposed to be the time of my life but in reality it’s been a living HELL!!!! i don’t want my adult years to be bs too b/c of this…ok b4 i really get off topic….good luck to everyone else it’s gonna be a long year lets hope we can all keep at it w/o giving up i’m sure the future is gonna be bright for us all:)

  15. Hi. I’m a mom to 3 little boys who are so active! I would love the ability to move more freely with them when they play on the park. They are only 2 months, 2 years and 3 years and I am only 21 years old. I feel like I have the time to lose it and make it worth my while, but everytime I try, I fail. I need ways to learn better self control, I think. I have about 100 pounds to lose as well. I’m 5 foot 1 inch and 236 pounds. I just wonder after 3 cesareans (two bikini line and one classical), is it even possible to lose it and still feel/look good?
An email partner would be great in achieving the same goals! My friend and I are supposed to be losing together and I feel so fat compared to her! She has nearly half the to lose as me! AND she never sticks to it. She falls off the boat before I do!
Sometimes, my self control kicks in a little too hard and I become obsessive. I start cheating myself out of food at meal times thinking it will catch me up or speed things up and that’s probably what causes me to overeat again and give up on losing .
So ANYBODY who would like to be an online partner in getting this common goal achieved and ANY ideas of coming up with ways to better control oneself would be greatly appreciated.

  20. Look to your health; and if you have it, praise God, and value it next to a good conscience; for health is the second blessing that we mortals are capable of; a blessing that money cannot buy.
